SKILLS BOOTCPS Skills Bootcamp in Network Engineering Your next step to getting the skills and knowledge to start a career as a Network Engineer. 1

Why start a career in Network Engineering? We live in a digitally connected world. Every day, companies rely on digital networks to carry out their business activities including phone lines, computers and internet routers. Now they need specialists who can maintain these networks. There’s high demand for skilled Network Engineers who can operate, fix and manage both physical and virtual hardware and software. Training in network engineering will give you the knowledge and confidence to kickstart a career in tech, setting you up with the technical skills that are needed by employers. A Skills Bootcamp in Network Engineering is a fantastic (and free!) way to get started. 2

SKILLS BOOTCPS What is a Skills Bootcamp? Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Skills for Life campaign. They are flexible short courses for adults aged 19+ to learn sector-specific skills to progress their careers. The Skills Bootcamp in Network Engineering is delivered online for 12-weeks. You don’t need any prior experience and can be employed, self-employed or unemployed. You will never have to pay for the training – Skills Bootcamps are funded by the Government and free for individuals. 3

What are the benefits of Skills Bootcamps? Fast-track to a new job and boost your CV If you’re looking for employment, you’ll be guaranteed a job interview using the skills you gained at the end of the course. If you’re employed, you’ll be guaranteed opportunities to apply your newly gained skills with your current employer. Free training that’s backed by the government Skills Bootcamps have been created by the government to help people gain important digital skills – and they’re completely free for learners. Open up your career and skills progression Build a foundation for your future career. Your new skills will place you in a strong position to progress if you are currently in employment. If you’re ready to keep learning, you could continue on to an Information Communications Technician Level 3 apprenticeship at the end of your course. 4

SKILLS BOOTCPS What happens when the course is finished? If you’re currently unemployed: We will continue to support you beyond the completion of the bootcamp to secure employment If you’re currently self-employed: you will gain new skills that open new work opportunities If you’re currently employed: you will be developing the digital skills your employer needs and setting a pathway for a career in a digital role, adopting news skills to help you become more productive in your role 5

What you’ll learn on a Skills Bootcamp in Network Engineering An Introduction to Networking Explore what networking is and how it’s used within different types of businesses. IT Fundamentals Spend time learning about the technical aspects of IT including elements of computer systems, terminology and number systems, data storage systems, applications and software, computer security and troubleshooting techniques. Network Concepts Deep dive into the different areas of networking including local area networking, IP addressing, network services, wide area networking, network security and supporting networking using the command line. Working in Networking Find out what it’s like working in the industry and how to set yourself up for success as a Network Engineer. 6

SKILLS BOOTCPS Specialist module Choose one module to develop more specialist skills: • Network security • Introduction to networking using Microsoft Azure Complete Practical Network Troubleshooting Scenarios Finish your course by completing a range of activities to show how you’d conduct network troubleshooting for hardware, software and cloud technology problems. Throughout the course you’ll be able to participate in CV and interview workshops, wellbeing sessions and professional and personal development reviews. 7

We’ll be here to help you every step of the way. During your 12-week course, you’ll have 60 guided learning hours with a Trainer. They’ll deliver training online in virtual classrooms and you’ll be able to access your learning materials on an online platform. You’ll also have dedicated support from one of our trainers to review your progress, help you set targets, and identify more opportunities to help your development. There will be one-to-one sessions with a career mentor.  8

Whether you’re unemployed and ready to kickstart a career in tech, self-employed wanting to learn new skills, or employed and wanting to progress in your sector, Skills Bootcamps are a great opportunity to learn new digital skills.
