The idea of Christwood as a life plan community founded in faith and open to all originated in 1993.When the community opened its doors to the first residents three years later it was the first of its kindamong the parishes of the Northshore. Today, Christwood remains the only full-service retirementcommunity in this area, with both a broad selection of residences for independent living and a fullrange of health care services available on its campus in Covington, Louisiana, to serve residentsthroughout their retirement years.As a not-for-profit community and a leader in senior living in this area, Christwood is committedto adapting and evolving to meet changing needs and desires. We continually reinvest in servicesand amenities for residents.Christwood is also dedicated to serving seniors in the greater community. One example is theCommunity Center at Christwood, designed for and open to our residents (membership is anincluded service) and to members from the surrounding area who are age 55-plus. The CommunityCenter is professionally staffed and offers a heated saltwater pool, an aerobics studio, and a fitnessgym fully equipped with specialized equipment. Dozens of land and water exercise classes areavailable, as well as personalized support and programming based on eight dimensions of wellnessto help members maintain or enhance their fitness and wellbeing. Another example is our homecare services — companion care, personal care, and homemaking services — available throughChristwood Connect to the general public age 55-plus, as well as to Christwood residents.In addition, Christwood is consulting with Dr. Jeffrey Keller of the Pennington Biomedical Instituteon the development of a Cognitive Care Center, which is scheduled to open on campus in 2016.The new center will expand even further the specialized care we offer. Designed to be a secureresidence with private suites in a neighborhood setting on campus, the care center will offer thelatest in cognitive stimulation, social interaction and memory care for individuals with Alzheimer’sdisease or other dementia. The Executive Officer of Christwood since 2004 is the Reverend L. Stephen Holzhalb, III,D. Min. Committed to the vision of the community from its beginning, the Reverend was rector ofthe Episcopal Church that founded Christwood and served as its first Board President. Residents choosing a cottage or apartment home need to be at least 60 years of age and able tolive independently with reasonable accommodations. Residency Plan options are available to fit awide range of budgets and Christwood welcomes the opportunity to work with eligible residentsto address their financial situations.The two plans summarized below are our most popular. With either plan, a one-time entrance feeand monthly service fee vary by style and size of the cottage or apartment home and residents areassured of access to our full range of health care services if ever needed.RETURN OF CAPITAL PLANUnder this plan, a minimum of 80% of the entrance fee will be refunded to residents or their estateupon termination of the Residency Agreement.*TRADITIONAL PLANUnder this plan, the entrance fee will be refunded in part to residents or their estate if the ResidencyAgreement is terminated within 45 months of first occupying the residence.*The monthly service fee for the selected residence covers an extensive package of services, amenities and options, which aredetailed in the Residency Agreement. NURSING CAREAn important part of the full health care services offered by a life plan community is its Health Centerwhere skilled nursing care is provided on a temporary or permanent basis.The Health Center at Christwood is a state-of-the-art facility with licensed nurse staffing 24 hoursa day. Costs for the Health Center are more affordable than market rates for nursing care, becausethey are supported in part by the overall life plan program.ABOVE AND BEYONDAs a leader in senior living on the Northshore, Christwood continues to explore innovative approachesto provide a vibrant lifestyle and exceptional care.
