However, Booth Western Art Museum is opening its doors on Monday, February 20, 2017 from10:00 am to 2:00 pm in honor of Presidents’ Day!Presidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated annually on the third Monday in February. Originallyestablished in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called “Washington’sBirthday” by the federal government. The holiday became popularly known as Presidents’ Day after itbecame part of the 1971 Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends forthe nation’s workers. While several states still have individual holidays honoring the birthdays ofWashington, Abraham Lincoln and other figures, Presidents’ Day is now popularly viewed as a day tocelebrate all U.S. Presidents, past and present.Booth Western Art Museum has partnered with the Bartow History Museum for a fun-packed day! At theBooth, families can participate in hands-on art activities, experience informative learning stationsthroughout the museum and enjoy current exhibitions Howard Terpning 70 Years of Art, Yoho NationalPark: A Canadian Gem – Photographs by Peter Essick, and Robert E. McGinnis: Hall of FameIllustrator. Presidents’ Day would not be complete without exploring The Presidential Gallery,highlighting a portrait and original hand-signed letter from every president, Washington through Obama(with space for President Trump). And, don’t forget Sagebrush Ranch, the Booth’s hands-on, interactivechildren’s gallery!At Bartow History Museum, hear special presentations about the “letter” Presidents (FDR, JFK, LBJ),compete in a Presidents’ Day “Space Race”, play “Presidential Jeopardy”, and enjoy an art activity.Cost: $5 per student and $3 plus tax for adults; admission to both museums included with cost.
