FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Press Contact: Tom Shinall Director of Marketing 770-387-2833 [email protected] BOOTH WESTERN ART MUSEUM RAISES NEEDED FUNDS WITH THE FOR THE LOVE OF ART GALA & ART AUCTION Tom Hill honored with the Booth Museum Lifetime Achievement AwardCARTERSVILLE, GA – Booth Western Art Museum recently hosted its seventh annual For the Love ofArt Gala & Art Auction on February 20 and Boots ‘N’ Saddles pre-gala party on February 19. Theevents raised more than $160,000 to support museum exhibitions and educational programs through liveand silent auctions, sponsorships, and ticket sales. An additional $11,000 was raised through a “paddleraise” for the Museum’s newly formed HAAS school transportation fund which will cover the transportationcosts for more than 4,000 young people to visit the Booth. The highlight of the weekend was thepresentation of the Booth Western Art Museum Lifetime Achievement Award to painter Tom Hill.Recognized for his achievements as an artist, teacher, and author, Hill became the eighth-ever recipientof the award, joining Howard Terpning, G. Harvey, Kenneth Riley, Fred Fellows, Glenna Goodacre, MortKünstler, and Roy Anderson.“The event has three purposes,” said Booth Executive Director Seth Hopkins. “First, the funds go to helpsupport our exhibitions, educational programs and enrichment programs throughout the year. Secondly,we select an artist in the Museum collection to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Tom Hill iscertainly a deserving honoree. He had a highly successful career as an illustrator, an even moresuccessful Western art career, and has made important contributions as a teacher, demonstrator andauthor. The third purpose of the Gala weekend is to bring together Western art collectors, artists andenthusiasts from throughout the country, but particularly the Southeast, in an atmosphere where they canengage and socialize.”Another highlight of the event was a live art auction, including a dozen original works of art donated bythe artists and friends of the Booth. Top selling lots included small to mid-size paintings by Nancy DunlopCawdrey, Tom Hill and David Wright selling for $4,750, $7,750 and $7,500 respectively.In addition to Tom Hill and his wife Barbara, other prominent artists in attendance included Susan Burns,Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey, David DeVary, Michael Goettee, Barry Henderson, David McKean, HowardTerpning, Michael Untiedt, Ernest Varner, and David Wright. It was also announced that the greatillustrator and artist Robert McGinnis will be honored with the Booth Western Art Museum Lifetime MORE
