As the largest annual fundraiser for theMuseum, the Gala will feature fine art, jewelry, unique travel experiences, and more offered in both liveand silent auction formats. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Booth Western ArtMuseum Lifetime Achievement Award to artist Robert McGinnis.“Every year we select an important artist in the Museum’s permanent collection to be honored with ourLifetime Achievement Award,” said Booth Western Art Museum Executive Director Seth Hopkins. “We areexcited to welcome Robert McGinnis to the group that includes past winners Howard Terpning, G.Harvey, Kenneth Riley, Glenna Goodacre, Fred Fellows, Roy Andersen, Mort Künstler, and Tom Hill.”Robert E. McGinnis began his career in 1947 as a cartoonist, moving on to detective magazine covers in1956 and paperback book covers in 1958. His first movie poster, Breakfast at Tiffany’s with an iconicrendering of Audrey Hepburn, still remains a classic today. His work for Hollywood became a who’s-wholist with posters for the James Bond series, The Odd Couple, The Incredibles, and many more. As helater transitioned to fine art, the beauty of America’s landscapes, vast Western vistas, and beautifulwomen became his primary subjects. His Western paintings, rendered in egg tempera, have a dustyappearance that both bring the scene to life and can almost make the viewer thirsty.Beginning at 5:30 pm on February 25, guests can tour the galleries of Booth Museum and view currentexhibition Howard Terpning: 70 Years of Art. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception with friends andWestern art enthusiasts and bid on items in the silent auction. At 7:30 pm, guests will adjourn to theBooth Ballroom for a gourmet dinner and live art auction. At 8:30 pm, Hopkins will present the BoothLifetime Achievement Award to artist Robert McGinnis. Suggested dress for men is black tie optional,Texas tux, boots, and bolos are encouraged. Women have a formal option, but dressy Western isencouraged. Page two, 2017 Gala WeekendTo provide a well-rounded weekend experience and more opportunities to interact with the artists inattendance, patrons can attend three additional events supporting the Museum - Boots ‘N’ Saddles,Brunch with the Artists, and a Panel Discussion on The Art of Classic Movie Posters.Beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday, February 24 at Booth Western Art Museum, guests will enjoy heavy horsd’oeuvres, open bar, silent auction of movie items with Robert McGinnis and Howard Terpning art atBoots ‘N’ Saddles, a pre-Gala party. Guests will also be able to enjoy instructor-led line dancing,Western card games, music, and dessert. Fancy Western dress is encouraged. Boots ‘N’ Saddlestickets are $75 per person or included in the all-event weekend ticket. This event will also serve as theofficial exhibition opening for Howard Terpning: 70 Years of Art, the first true retrospective exhibition ofthe most highly acclaimed living Western artist.By any measure – awards, sales records, critical acclaim, or collector demand – Howard Terpning is themost accomplished living Western artist. Educated in Chicago’s great art schools, he first worked in thestudio of Haddon Sundbloom, creator of the modern image of Santa Claus for Coca Cola. Terpningbecame one of the great illustrators of the 1960s, creating iconic images for Gone With The Wind, theSound of Music and many others. As the illustration field dried up, Terpning joined many of his formercolleagues in the West. He quickly moved up the Western art ladder gaining attention for his expertlypainted scenes of historic Indian life. As the definitive retrospective exhibition, Howard Terpning: 70Years of Art focuses on four major segments of his artistic output - early illustrations, movie poster work,art created for the Marine Corps while in Vietnam as a civilian combat artist, and nearly 40 majorpaintings from his mature career. The art gathered together for the first time will introduce audiences tothe steppingstones of Terpning’s early career that led to his masterful paintings that today sell forupwards of $2 million at auction.At 10:00 am on Saturday, February 25, a Brunch with the Artists will be held at the Hilton Garden InnCartersville, the official host hotel. This is an informal opportunity to mix and mingle with honored guestRobert McGinnis and other artists in town for Gala weekend. Attendees will enjoy a brunch buffet and aninterview with McGinnis led by Hopkins. Brunch with the Artists tickets are $25 per person or includedin the all-event weekend ticket.At 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 25 in Booth Museum’s Bergman Theatre, Hopkins will be joined bymovie art collectors and artists for a panel discussion on art created for classic movies. The PanelDiscussion on The Art of Classic Movie Posters is open to the public and included with generaladmission to the Museum and/or the all-event weekend ticket.
