Spring~Summer Show at the Downtown Gallery featuring images by the Booth Photography Guild This show will be on display May 11 – Sept. 12, 2019 Images do not reflect sizes or framing. Questions: Call 770-387-4330 or visit the Downtown Gallery at 13 Wall St. Cartersville GA. 30120

Peri Alpin – Black and Red , “ I came up over a small rise while working and there was this Wonderful Old House on the knoll across the road. All gray and tired but proud. I love old houses and feel they all have a story! Then, looking to my right, the Bright Red Stop sign said what I felt! Don't tear me down. I have so many memories! Good thing no one was behind me on this country road as I grabbed my camera and took a couple of shots. I had to!” Peri Alpin

Lawrence Baker – Yosemite Reflection Yosemite Reflection: “This photograph was taken in April in Yosemite Valley. I had already been in Yosemite for a few days and had taken in the glory of the valley. At the same, you could also see that many trees were dying. I was struck by the dichotomy. The scene depicted in this photograph mirrored the contradictions in the environment that I had been experiencing. To take it I positioned myself as low as possible to catch the reflection I placed the fallen log and the debris in the foreground so it would not be overshadowed by the majesty of the background. Hopefully all these elements in the image produce awe at the beauty of the scene in the background, but at the same times let’s us ponder that if we do not take care of Yosemite, or for that matter our environment, we could be poorer for it.” Lawrence Baker

Richard Beavers - Bonaventure “My image: \"Bonaventure\" was photographed in Bonaventure cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. Image was taken in March, a beautiful spring day. All the Azaleas were in full bloom. A very beautiful peaceful place.” Richard Beavers

Michael Beltrami – Deco Hauler DECO HAULER: “This is a color infrared photograph. When captured using a specialized camera infrared light changes how the eye perceives color, thus the colors you see in this image are different than you would see in reality. The truck, originally built by the White Motor Company in the 1950’s, was heavily customized and converted to a car carrier by its owner so he could transport his 1950’s Chevy drag racer, which you'll notice is also on the truck! This image was taken at Beaver Springs Dragway in Beaver Springs, PA. Each year over 100 old time drag-racers meet at this track for a weekend of racing, and this car hauler and dragster are fixtures at this event.” Mike Beltrami

Michael Beltrami – Swamp Tree SWAMP TREE: “This image combines an infrared black & white image with a visible light color image. By blending the two images, the viewer can sense the starkness of the infrared image while in contrast feel the soft color reminiscent of old hand-colored photographs. This image was captured at a wildlife preserve near the Myakka River in Venice, Florida.” Mike Beltrami

Natalie Birnbaum – Esther’s Garden “Last summer a tall cluster of beautiful pink lilies popped up in my neighbor Esther’s front yard. I couldn’t resist getting out my camera to try and capture the gorgeous blooms. I was so happy to see how this image turned out. I titled it “Esther’s Garden,” in recognition of my neighbor’s garden of exquisite lilies.” Natalie Birnbaum

Cherry Blaker – Grandma’s Window “This photo was taken at the reconstructed village of New Salem, Illinois. New Salem was Abraham Lincoln's home as a young man. Inside one of the cabins, I saw this window view. It reminded me a lot of my grandmother's kitchen window when I was a little girl, which is why I named it Grandma's Window.” “Photography has been my hobby for a number of years.” Cherry Blaker

Scott Blaker – Past Riches “ Perhaps nothing more accurately symbolizes the frantic search for gold and silver during the latter part of the 19th century in western Colorado than a hand-pushed ore car. This one is located at the south Park City Museum at Fairplay. I think the low angle gives it a sense of momentum, and the mountains on the horizon place it geographically and historically.” Scott Blaker

Scott Blaker – Pioneer Barn “This barn, the adjoining farmhouse and a schoolhouse are all that remain of the Mormon community of Fruita, UT, now a part of Capitol Reef National Park. Mormons entered the area in 1880 and created a literal garden in this seemingly inhospitable territory. Fruita was famous for its orchards, of which some 2500 trees remain, now maintained by the National Park Service.” Scott Blaker

Scott Blaker – Priest and Nuns “Early travelers in the American West had an almost-comic compulsion to bestow names upon various landmarks based upon their vague resemblance to known entities. Such is the case with Priest and Nuns, near Moab, Utah. We had finished dinner in Moab, and went exploring to see if we could take advantage of the late afternoon light. It paid off with this view of bright yellow Desert Plume flowers with Priest and Nuns in the background.” Scott Blaker

Jennifer Boykin – Calla Lily Curves Calla Lily Curves- this image is a study of color, shape, reflective surfaces and studio lighting. Jennifer Boykin

Jennifer Boykin – LaPush Sunset La Push Sunset- Pacific coast sunset was taken from First Beach, La Push, Washington September 2018. every sunset is different, every sunset is beautiful... Jennifer Boykin

Bob Caspar – After the Rain “AFTER THE RAIN” We were hit with a very large thunderstorm and the plants and flowers hanging from the porch were drenched. This was the beautiful result. Bob Caspar

Bob Caspar – Windchimes “WINDCHIMES” At sunrise, the sun reflected thru the colored glass chimes causing an interesting shot I thought was worth making. Bob Caspar

Lyle Currier – Before the Gold Rush “The Pacific coast of southern Mexico is the location where “Coastal Scallops” and “Before the Gold Rush” were captured. “Scallops” shows a section of sea cliffs at high tide with an interesting pattern of waves. “Gold Rush” was shot from the town of Barra de Navidad across a freshwater lagoon, where the Marabasco River empties into the ocean. Both images were shot near sunrise, with clouds and ever-present marine haze coloring the sky. I enjoy landscape, street and travel photography. I’m retired, so when I’m not shooting in the Southeastern US, I can be found in Colorado (summer) or southwestern Mexico (winter).”

Chris Dahl – Moon over Death Valley “Moon over Death Valley” The base image (Death Valley) was captured in April of 2017. “I captured this image originally pre-sunrise. The moon was tiny and really distracted from the rolling hills. This past year I captured images of a Super Moon. On evening I was reviewing old images and decided to blend the new moon with the original Death Valley shot. After some work on the image I moved it to Topaz and applied some paintbrush filters to it and cooled the image down to give it more of a night time look.” My interest in photography started at a young age, dad built a darkroom for me in the woodshed out behind our house in Mableton Georgia. I equipped it with a kit I purchased from a local camera store. The only prints I could make at first were contact prints. During High School, I worked as the staff photographer on the yearbook and I also helped with the yearbook at my summer job, Six Flags Over Georgia. After college, I worked at professional photo labs in Atlanta as a printer, photo composition technician and digital comp technician through these shops I have been blessed with meeting and talking to many artists in the southeast. To me, photography is a fun hobby that I enjoy as often as I can. Photography has always been a big part of my life. Now it is a serious hobby that I like to share with family and friends.

Heather Finley – A Special Treat “I enjoy all types of photography but would have to say portraits - both people and animals are my favorite subjects. I really enjoyed capturing images of this little girl and horse. This image is called “A Special Treat”. I believe what is special is not only the treat she was feeding but the interaction between the two. This is a miniature horse named Chanel. She is trained to do tricks. The little girl is Maelyn. She has been working with Chanel for the past year and does very well with her. They are a wonderful duo.” Heather Finley

Clay Fisher – Mallard at Island Ford This image is part of a larger project that Clay Fisher commenced at the beginning of the year in photographing birds and fowl that inhabit the Chattahoochee River. For all the many purposes this body of water provides, Clay finds it fascinating how nature continues to find ways to adapt and co- exist. Especially the challenges a city such as Atlanta impart on this major water supply and therefore the burden placed on all species in the surrounding metro area.

Clay Fisher – Winged Geese Canadian Geese at the Chattahoochie River near Atlanta, Ga Clay continues to explore unique artistic opportunities that best showcase and pay homage to these beautiful creatures and their ability to survive such conditions.

Rob Hale – Dead and Dying “This image was taken at Scipio Creek Marina in Apalachicola, Florida that we visit often over the last 6-7 years or so. Most of the vessels here are shrimp boats and most are always under repair. The boat on the left is Lady Louise. She was once the most beautiful and well-maintained vessel I have ever seen. She was tied up here when her owner decided to retire and was unable to sell her. He then started selling off parts. She has sunk to the bottom of the marina and is “dead.” Other vessels here are, in my opinion, “dying.” Rob Hale

Sally Hale – Into the Sun “This image of a Great Blue Heron was taken at The Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida. Every spring thousands of wading birds nest at its Rookery. These birds are not captive, but are completely wild. The Alligator Farm does not feed them or interact with them in any way. They are free to come and go as they please. The Rookery provides a safe haven for them to mate and raise their fledglings without danger of predators, who are preyed upon by the alligators.” Sally Hale

Sally Hale – Skeleton Leaves “I love these beautiful, delicate, lacy leaf skeletons. Each one is preserved naturally and make excellent subjects for macro photography.” Sally Hale

Dean Kelley - Brownstone “Photographing architectural details are always fun. This vacant building needed a little love and care which it received from Photoshop and NIK software. The stream was added to give the image a little depth. I am always looking for something that is not there.” Dean Kelley

Dean Kelley – Book of Life “I Attempted to show what an image in a coffee table book might look like compared to real life. Apparently, a couple of trees were not on the same page as my idea. My goal is to make photographs that excite me and maybe a few others along the way.” Dean Kelley

Dean Kelley - Timeless “The watch parts were photographed with a reversed Nikon 35 mm lens on Sony mirrorless camera. The background is from a gray texture layer. I was told that it pleases God when we use the talents that he gives us. I’m banking on it.” Dean Kelley

Kathy Keys – Pier at Viz Caya \"Pier at VizCaya\" was taken in Miami, FL while touring the estate built by James Deering. Mr. Deering was an agricultural industrialist of the Deering McCormick-International Harvester fortune. The estate was built around 1920-1923. Much of the material used for construction was imported from Europe. The estate is absolutely beautiful and well worth a trip to visit it. It was a rainy day in Florida that day and the dark clouds were impressive. “I have always enjoyed taking pictures and have been taking pictures from a very young age. The Booth Museum Photography Guild is a lot of fun and a wonderful place to learn more about photography. The Downtown Gallery if a great place to display photography.” Kathy Keys

Kathy Keys – Water Lily in Florida Pond \"Water Lily in Florida Pond\" was also taken on the Viz Caya estate. The gardens of the estate are beautiful with different types of gardens. There was a rose garden, orchid garden, long walking gardens with different flowers and the water lily pond, along with beautifully built displays with stairways and arbors. There was something for all types of photography. “I have always enjoyed taking pictures and have been taking pictures from a very young age. The Booth Museum Photography Guild is a lot of fun and a wonderful place to learn more about photography. The Downtown Gallery if a great place to display photography.” Kathy Keys

Ron Lee – Abandoned Building “This is an abandoned house in Rydal, GA. I took several pictures from the side of the road, and decided this one was the best. I used NIK to change it to B&W. I used Photoshop Elements to remove some fence posts and burn areas around the house to make the house stand out more.” Ron Lee

John Mariana – Playing Under the Spanish Moss “ One beautiful morning in Savannah, GA two young ladies were playing under the beautiful Spanish Moss. They were so beautiful in their dresses as they waited to be in a wedding shortly. The sun was streaming from the upper left and they just shined and stood out against the rich greens and hanging moss. The large trees created a wonderful frame on their playtime.” John Mariana

Leslie Mcrary – Thea’s Barn Latch Thea’s Barn Latch “One of the things that is most interesting to me in photography is texture. The rust and peeling paint of this old barn latch in North Dakota caught my eye. Texture brings out underlying details that often get overlooked that add character to simple things like barn door latches. I find myself looking for things with texture to photograph, hoping it reveals a fresh way of seeing ordinary objects.” Leslie McCrary lives part time in Cartersville, GA and part time in Absarokee, MT with her husband, Jim Owens, who is also a photographer. She enjoys the opportunity of photographing two entirely different areas of the country.

Leslie McCrary – The Refuge Winter Retreat “There are birdhouses on nearly every fence row in Montana. This one was spotted on a snowy day near the Woodbine area of the Custer National Forest. Although not occupied at the time the photo was taken, it will be a welcome home to a new family of mountain bluebirds in spring. I will undoubtedly return to photograph a different phase of the birdhouse.”

Victor Mulinix – Lenton Rose “Lenten Rose” (Hellebores’ orientalis), is a perennial flowering plant in the butter cup family, Ranunclaceae, native to Greece and Turkey. It is not a Rose, its two- part common name refers to the plant’s bloom season (around Lent) and the rose-like shape of its flower buds.” Victor Mulinix

Jim Owens – Eagle Outpost “This beautiful eagle was sitting on a fence post next to the road when I spotted him. I pulled over and began to shoot. He sat forever, as if he had been instructed to pose. It is my favorite eagle shot of my collection...and I got it without ever leaving the car.” Jim Owens lives part time in Absarokee, MT and part time in Cartersville, GA with his wife, Leslie McCrary, who is also a photographer. He enjoys photographing nature, especially the area in Montana where his family has been a presence since the 1870s.

Jim Owens – Stillwater Eagle “This shot was taken along the Stillwater River in the Custer National Forest in Montana. Eagle sightings had been sparse the last couple of years so finding there had been a return of the eagles on this last trip was exciting. I liked the contrast of the eagle and his coloring against the snow and white trees.” Jim Owens

Sarah Patterson - Antlers “Antlers” Kennesaw GA 2018 “Antlers” was taken at Allatoona Creek in Kennesaw GA, a favorite spot to sit quietly. Finding similarities in structure between species in the natural world, is an observational delight. Bare branches offer a special view and provide their own beauty to contemplate.—Sarah Patterson

Andrew Rost – Remuda Corral “This photograph was taken just after sunrise at Rancho Las Cascadas, Guanajuato, Mexico. The remuda included about 40 Criollo, Azteca, Appaloosa, Paint, and Quarter horses. This image captures only a small portion of the corral. Smaller than the typical mounts that one would find in the United States, these horses were proudly described as athletes by the ranch wranglers. Shortly after this photograph was taken, the corral was a flurry of currying and veterinarian care prior to the day's ride. The Ranch sits high above mountain plains amidst more than 500,000 acres of pristine countryside. Ranch guests enjoy daylong rides in majestic mountains, open fields, peaceful lakes, waterfalls, and lush vistas” Andrew Rost

Yolanda Santiago-White- Baroque Bouquet “This simple arrangement and it’s ethereal reflection is reminiscent of a baroque still life. There is something sensual about tulips...their gentle bend towards the light...their silky petals coyly cupping their faces from view. They can be thoroughly modern but romantically evocative.” Yolanda Santiago-White

Yolanda Santiago-White – Complexly Simple ‘We are all multifaceted beings — many faces of the same coin — strong, graceful, independent, needy, self-assures, humble, sensitive, optimistic, practical. We are ALL complexly simple.

Pat Stephenson – Spring Gladness “Blossoms are as unique as people, the patterns in their petals are like various fingerprints. Normally, I am not a photographer of flowers, but this beautiful array of Gladiolus was irresistable. The delicate pink contrast against green appealed to the artist in me.” Pat Stephenson

Pat Stephenson – The Provost “This photo was taken at Allatoona Pass during the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. This Civil War Reenactor was faithfully guarding his post, portraying his role as “The Provost.” A Provost is the title given to the fellow in charge of jailed prisoners.” Pat Stephenson

Mary Whitaker – Cha Ching Cha Ching: “If you haven't already guessed, this is a close up of an antique cash register. My grandparents found it at a yard sale and gave it to me when I was around 8 years old. Even then I understood the value of this unique cash register and preferred it over the plastic Fisher Price versions from Walmart. My two sisters and I would play \"store\" with this and our mom's grocery purchases. We even cut up brown grocery bags and taped them together to create a \"conveyer belt.\" I still own this cash register.” Mary Whitaker

Mary Whitaker – Into the Glory Into the Glory: “I especially love morning glories. I know it isn't possible to capture the weight of God's glory in a photograph, but I hope this gives viewers a mere glimpse of it through the beauty He has created which so often takes my breath away.” Mary Whitaker

Mary Whitaker - Prickly Prickly: “This is a close up of a cactus at Callaway Gardens. I am usually not a big fan of succulents, but the brilliant green grabbed my attention. I enjoy getting in close when taking pictures of plants, so I can fill the frame and find interesting perspectives for a fresh look at something so common.” Mary Whitaker

Clara Williams - Abandoned As a society, we seem to be drawn to old cars, abandoned, rusting, and desolate. They can be found in forests, fields, and graveyards all over the world, and they are a tangible link to our personal histories. This hood ornament is located in Old Car City in White, Georgia. Old Car City has been named as one of the top ten junkyards in the world. If you haven’t been, you need to go. Soon! Clara Williams
