MEDIA ALERTWHO: Booth Western Art MuseumWHAT: WHEN: Treasures from the Frederic Remington Art Museum & BeyondWHERE: September 8, 2018 – January 13, 2019WHY: 501 Museum Drive, Cartersville, GA 30120 l 770.387.1300 l www.boothmuseum.org Frederic Remington is the most well-known Western artist in the world. This exhibition will showcase more than 25 pieces on loan from the Frederic Remington Art Museum PLUS over 30 original pieces of artwork from private collections and other museums. Spanning the artist’s career, this thoughtfully curated exhibit will be the largest and most important Remington show in the Southeast ever. It will also spotlight how Frederic Remington, more than any other artist, became the country’s leading interpreter of the West. While best known today for his iconic bronze statues of soldiers, cowboys and Indians on horseback, Remington was also an important painter, illustrator and writer. In fact, during his career, he was better known for his paintings than his bronzes. Remington’s first bronze “The Broncho Buster” is considered one of the most enduring images of the American West. Given to Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt (a close associate of Remington) by his Rough Riders, an original casting was also donated to the Carter administration and resided in the Oval Office for many years. Another of Remington’s statues, “Coming Through the Rye,” remains in the White House even today. Remington’s work truly transcends Western art. The lasting impact of his work and legacy has ledCONTACT: to his acceptance and popularity within the broader genre of American art.
