For Immediate Release Press Contact: Sandy Scott Director of Marketing [email protected] 770-387-2833 A TASTE OF THE OLD WEST 17th Annual Southeastern Chuck Wagon Gathering, March 28, 2020 CARTERSVILLE, GEORGIA – Round up the children and mosey on over to Booth Western Art Museum to experience a taste of the Old West. On Saturday, March 28, 2020, Booth Museum will host the 17th annual Southeastern Chuck Wagon Gathering, the largest gathering of chuck wagons east of the Mississippi River. The Southeast Tourism Society has named Booth Museum’s Southeastern Chuck Wagon Gathering a STS Top 20 Event in the Southeast. As part of Booth Museum’s annual Gathering Southeastern Chuck Wagon Invitational has been recognized as one of the best and most unique annual food festivals in Georgia by Georgia Eats, The Official State Culinary Guide. In today’s society, the popularity of the food truck can be seen on street corners and at festivals across the country. So when did the food truck phenomenon begin? It can be traced back to 1866 and a Texas cattle rancher by the name of Charles Goodnight. The chuck wagon…the original food truck. Historically, the chuck wagon served as a field kitchen – the storage and transportation of perishable foods and cooking equipment – for the cowboys and settlers of the American West. Beginning at 9:00 am, Saturday, March 28 on the Museum Festival Grounds, southerners can experience the Old West without ever leaving the Southeast. Teams of cooks will be provided the same basic ingredients and instructed to prepare their own versions of beef, potatoes, beans and cobbler. To echo the ways of the Old West, crews are required to use ingredients that would have been readily available during the cattle drive era as well as preparing and cooking their meals in an authentic manner. The teams are encouraged to interact with attendees and educate the public on the importance of the chuck wagon. For an overall immersive experience, attendees have the opportunity to purchase meal tickets for lunch served from the wagons. Those interested are encouraged to purchase meal tickets in advance for $17.50 plus tax by calling the Museum Front Desk at 770-387-1300 or online at boothmuseum.org. When purchasing chuck wagon lunch meal tickets, you will be required to select a wagon…insider’s tip – if purchasing multiple meal tickets, order each ticket from a different wagon Lunch from the wagons will be served at High Noon.
