We also feel contented to havereached out to 150 people in Alain on 15th June ’17, by providing them with food pack-ets and also to have helped the struggling people in Somalia by contributing AED3000, with the support of RED CRESCENT.On 21st June ’17, our boys of Grade 11 along with some of the teachers visited a farmhouse where an Iftar was organized at Ajban, near Shahama. Our boys were morethan delighted to distribute a kit that contained 11kg grocery items, that would meettheir basic requirement for atleast 20 days, to the labourers working in the farm. 06 PIONEER - June 2017

BETTER TO TAB The Tablet invades traditional education by forming an interactive method of learning. Forget the backpack of suffocation; It’s the era of Tablet and Digital Training. Our girls and boys of Grade-7 indicated that they participate more in learning taskswhen tablets are used and enhanced levels of collaborative working was evident. Theuse of tablets has resulted in an increase in students sharing their digitally-producedwork (including interactive whiteboards) that in turn provide opportunities for teachersto offer regular feedback and to collect cumulative assessment data. 12 PIONEER - June 2017

Students are given assignments or asked to design assignments that foster thedevelopment of various skills. Students create amazing \"artifacts\" to share theirknowledge which empowers other learners.Teachers too use tablets to modify and redefine student learning by employingtransformative pedagogical models. The Technological Pedagogical ContentKnowledge (TPACK) framework is relevant to tablet use, and teachers havesuccessfully applied their TPACK to implement tablet-based learning.A learner-centered approach may be a particularly valuable strategy for students wholearn from multimedia content on tablets. 14 PIONEER - June 2017

WASTE NEVER WASTEDThe ever-increasing and rapidly growing volume of electrical and electronic waste hasbecome a serious threat to the environment in many countries. The biggest challengefaced in this area, is the ignorant nature of people with regard to e-waste. For thisspecific reason, an E-waste Collection Campaign was initiated by Natura - Bhavan’sEco Club, supported by Ms. Shera, the Business Development Officer ofEnviro-serve.The first phase included awareness on the purpose of the mission which wasfacilitated by the student members Saloni Rakholiya, Hanna Sarah, Armaan Agrawal,Sachit Kothari, Divyashri R.N., Sankalp Mallela, Ayushi Ramakrishnan, DevanandaManoj, and Aditya Satyanath. The aim of the project which was to protect MotherEarth by reducing landfill e-waste, which was highlighted in the presentation whichwas attended by the boys and girls of Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary. The collection of e-waste was divided into two stages, the first one being from theSchool Management, Staff and Students. All kinds of electronic waste, from oldrecorders to mobile phones were brought in. The larger households like printers andscanners were also brought to school by parents. As the school collection of e-waste made headway, the second stage of collectionfrom neighborhoods across Abu Dhabi and Mussafah started where some of ourstudents reached out beyond our school, with the collaboration of parent volunteers,Mrs. and Mr. Ramakrishnan, Mrs. and Mr. Manoj Nair, Mrs. and Mr. Agrawal and Ms.Naga Pallavi, who organized e-waste collection in Hamdan street, Madinat Zayed,Shabiya and Airport Road. The support of Mr. Sasi and Janitors stands incomparable.PIONEER - June 2017 17

The students not only gained connection to their curriculum but also learntcompetences like Teamwork, Collaboration, and Leadership. The students aim tocontinue the campaign after the summer break as well. They also aim at preparingeco-friendly devices from the e-waste collected. We collected around 500 kg of e-waste and hope to collect more than 1000 kg infuture.
