A END FOR A ENDANCE Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways to prepare a child to succeed, both in school and in life. It also encourages the development of other respon- sible patterns of behaviour in individuals. Bhavanites carry out regular attendance at ease with endless enthusiasm and boundless joy. They are continuously appreciated and motivated for the same with certificates as a token of recognition. This effort made by the school not only appreciates the students with cent percent attendance but also motivates other students to attend school every day. It creates a healthy competition between students as it is achievable by everyone in the institution. Congratulations to the students for being regular to school. PIES extends its gratitude to parents and teachers for consistently playing a significant role to help children imbibe such essential values.05

EXPRESSIONS - 2016-17 There is nothing more fun or memorable for students than watching the maiden stage performance of their friends! This was conspicuous in the students of Grade 5 when they performed on stage. So what’s new to that? Students regularly perform on stage! But these were the children who never took to stage so far, and that made all the difference! ‘Expressions’, a scintillating show, was organized for such kids on 15 Feb ‘17 in ‘Ram Manch’. An array of spell-binding performances including singing, role play, group song, storytelling and speech kept us in rapt attention. I am so moved by the efforts taken by teachers to make this show a truly memorable one, for the students as well as for us. Manoj Prabakaran (Section Supervisor – G5) 08

FUN WITH RIDDLES In a world where children's lives are becoming increasingly involved in social networks, it has become very important to find methods to bond with children and help them learn beyond such networks. A very interesting way of doing this is sharing riddles with children and teaching them the logic behind it. To promote the fun attached to asking and answer- ing riddles, and also introduce children to intellectu- al humour, the Department of English (Primary) organized an activity for students of Grades 1 to 3 during the month of February 2017. This activity was carried out during the respective Library periods. To encourage their participation, certificates were awarded to students who scored the highest. It should be noted that Riddles is a great way to form a stronger bond with children and break through any social issues a child may have, making it easier for them to build social relationships in the future. Rinisha Rakesh (Dept. of English – Primary)09

THE ART OF READINGReading is fun, it is also one of the useful waysof learning a new language and mastering it.Reading also spices up literature and provideschildren the incentive to enjoy a book. A childmight easily pick a book to read but thechallenge a teacher faces is to get him enjoythe reading! As a part of various other activities carried outby the Dept. of English (Primary), ReadingCompetition was conducted in the month ofFebruary ’17 during the Library periods. We, as a department, are determined tocontinue to invest quality time to incorporatemore such activities in the teaching-learningprocess that in turn would help our childrenchisel various skills to make them confidentcommunicators. W P AND ROLL With blessings bountiful What can’t be made beautiful With the tiny fingers that move with grace From one to another place. No power can erase Such eagerness, love and awe that embrace. To put the creativity of our students to test yet again, the class teach- ers of G-3 thought well and designed an activity that involved articles that are usually discarded. Every student of G-3 was informed to bring an empty box each. The challenge was to transform the boxes into a gift! And the end-result of the event which took place on 23rd Feb ’17, was simply astounding! Right from jewellery boxes to costume holders, the tiny hands worked like magic wands to convert rags to gifts – all this in just 40 minutes! Congratulations to Ananya-3A, Smridhi Thakur -3F, Gaurangi-3C and Anupama Sunil-3E who were recognised for their outstanding creativity and imagination. Babita Chhetri (Dept. of English – Primary)11

RUN TO WINTo enhance the spelling and vocabulary of children, the Department of English (Primary) conducted‘Running Dictation’ for Grades 1 and 2 on 30th Jan ‘17.This method is a novel idea to develop their love forlanguage as well as enhancing the memory. The teachers chose twenty words that were kept inclassrooms. Each class room was occupied by pairs orsmall groups of participants and the words wereplaced around the class room. A member from eachpair/group was to walk to the list of words, read themin silence, get back to the group, recollect words thatwere read and dictate the words one after the other forthe member to write neatly. After several ‘runs’ the pair/ group should check thespellings to make sure there are no errors. The fun partwas, the chosen member from each group had to runback and forth a few times to bring back the words totheir team member!THE ‘RUNNER’ WINNERS ARE: It was such a wonderful programme, where, within GRADE-1 three minutes many students were able to recollect and write 19 words. SCIENCE TO EXPERIENCE Fairs and exhibitions are an amazing way to help children bring out their creativity and provide them with the exposure to present their ideas and hard work. As yet another opportunity for children to showcase their talents, the Department of Science (Second- ary) held an expo on 12 Feb ’17 which was inaugurated by Mr.Anwar Abdul Salam Ahmed, our PRO. He was highly impressed by the innovation and the style in which the presentations were made. The ever-enthusiastic students were asked to conduct on-the-spot experiments and the resources and materials were provided by the school. Sustainable Eco-friendly House, Electric Motor Boat, Innovative Quiz Board and Elevator were some of the working models that were presented. The judges Mr.Jojo (HoD-Social Sciences), Mr.Manoj (Section Supervisor –G5) and Mr.Pranesh (Dept. of Mathematics) applauded the students for their novel ideas which would help the world become a much better place to live in. Firdaus Fatma (Dept. of Science- Secondary) NATIONAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD Like every year, this year too PIES conducted NSO for the Primary, where a total of 333 students participated in the first level conducted on 24 Nov ’16. Cyber To Note Meenakshi Arun Grade - 7 C Who could ever imagine posting something on social media would turn out to be so very horrifying!!! The Bhavanites had an informative and educative session on cyber - security. A workshop on ‘Cyber Security Awareness’ was conducted by a team of six experienced officials from Paramount Computer Systems FZ LLC. The students were astonished to know the amount of cyber - bullying cases around the world. Videos left us teeth chattering and vowing never to do horrible things that would, in any manner, harm others. We were also made aware of new words present in the cyber – security dictionary. The amazing team from ‘Paramount’ came not just to speak to us on cyber – security, they also explained how to secure password, block unfriendly people, various types of viruses, to highlight a few. The team also played many videos on cyber – bullying and how it negatively impacts many lives. They also shared their personal experiences related to the issue. We also enjoyed playing a game in which we had to check whose password was the strongest. The prize was bagged by Rhiya Gridhara Bhatt of 7C. At the end of the session, a poster-making competition was conducted and it was seem- ingly surprising to note nearly 25 posters were made ready within couple of minutes. In short, after such a lovely session, we now have lot more anti cyber–bullying cadets.15

‘TEACHERS DAY OUT’ ‘So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth’. PIES strongly believes in this dictum of unity that pervades through every action it undertakes - be it for students or for staff. In recognition of the dedicated service by the staff of PIES, the Management provided us with an opportunity to unwind and get rejuvenated by taking-up a one-day tour on 25 Feb '17 to Al Ain, the Garden City. Accommodated in two buses, we left by 8 am and the city welcomed us with a drizzle. Songs, dance, snacks and smiling faces made the journey a befitting beginning to a fun filled day. A healthy breakfast was served on the way to ensure we stayed energetic throughout the day. Games were framed in a manner that we relived our childhood. The forlorn days were once again recreated through fun woven with frolic. A sumptuous lunch too was served after which we got back to Abu Dhabi. Though the picnic was only for a day, the mem- ories which it gave us will linger for a long time. We wholeheartedly express our gratitude to the Management for organizing the tour for us. Aneesh Nair (Dept. of English-Primary)25

OUR FINAL YEAR OF I was so excited yet so terrified at the thought of my first day in grade 12. I woke up feeling sad as the thought ofSCHOOL LIFE! facing the board exams this year struck me, but also looking forward to the day, which had come so quickly. It felt much to me like my first day as an adult, the first day I ever felt grown up. It being the final year of my school life I decided to face it bravely. The excitement of meeting my teachers and friends after a week’s holidays got me more thrilled. As I moved from Grade 11 to Grade 12, I became more open-minded as I experienced different situations with people every day. School to me now was like my second home and my teachers and friends more like family. The teachers were really welcoming and warm. Seeing their smiles after a period of time really got us begin our work. Invoking the blessings of the Almighty, we began a fresh morning with Commerce. Getting back to serious studies after a short period of break was really tough but our teachers managed to make our classes brighter in one way or the other. My first day in Grade 12 was quite interesting and I’m pretty sure my final year of school will be thrilling and memorable with my motivating teachers, Management and my ever supporting classmates. Wishing my dear friends of Grade 12 the very best for the board exams they will soon be facing. Samitha Sasi Grade – 12 A 26
