ʶHDVVLJQPHQW Nyla opened her eyes with a start. She was sweating and preplaxed. All she could think of was today's assignment submission. She hoped today would be a day free of any bad omen. Thinking about all this she got out of bed. The cold floor welcomed her. She withdrew her leg with a yelp and was searching for her slippers. That's when she saw bits and pieces of her slipper lying on the floor. She remembered her pet dog Biscuit is having a bad week with a wobbly teeth. Poor mutt she thought. 'Is this a sign of today being a bad day',thinking aloud she went to get ready for school. The morning flew like a blur. Breakfast, wishing mom goodbye, getting into the bus, reaching school, entering her class, sitting in her seat and looking at the board.she is supposed to assume this position in her seat until the next hour which is 'chemistry'. Thinking about chemistry she had a sinking feeling in her stomach. Feeling her pulse raising, sweating when the class is full of cold mode from the AC and a small amount of guilt. This is the last assignment for submission in the 10th grade. After this its study leave and exam days. She was satisfied in fact happy that she did the assignment and ended it in a proper way. But what hit her was the assignment which she took as a reference from the library. She was happy she chose that particular assignment for reference. It was well written and informative. She even used the same words for her assignment. While having a last check yesterday night she realised the reference she took from the library was her current chemistry sirs college assignment. She got so scared, there wasn't enough time to change anything. It seems like there was no way but to submit the assignment she copied. At that time she remembered her mother's words 'stealing even if it is a small grain of rice is wrong it will only bring you doom'. The bell rang. Mr.Sarang the chemistry sir came. She started panicking. He was a very particular one. He values truth and honesty more than anything. Nyla started to shake. The class monitor started collecting the assignments. Nyla stood up. Breathing heavily and walking weakly ready to face her sirs wrath she went and stood in front of Mr.Sarang and opened her mouth. 'I am sorry sir, what i did is wrong,i literally stole your idea and words and wrote it as my assignment'. He stood dumbfounded. Didn't say anything and asked Nyla to go sit in her place. He started giving pointers and ideas to face the upcoming exams. The bell rang. It was break time everybody went out except Nyla and Mr.Sarang. Mr. Sarang asked Nyla to bring her assignment. She stood with her assignment in hand and waited for her sirs scolding but Mr.Sarang lovingly looked at Nyla and said 'well done Nyla for being honest and admitting your mistake. It takes a lot of courage my dear girl, I am proud of you'. Mr.Sarang went through her assignment smiled at her and went out of her class taking her assignment with him. Nyla stood there dumbfounded for a long time. She felt the calm after the storm.Standing there all Nyla could think was again her mother's words 'it does not take that much effort to commit a mistake but it takes a lot of courage to admit it'. Believing she got forgiveness from her sir Nyla went to find her friends thinking she went through all that tension for no reason. All she had to do was tell the TRUTH. Nify vahabudeen 1

$UHZHOŹLQJˊHKDEŻRIUHDGLQJ\" Indeed, for a long time reading has been a favorite hobby for many people around the world. Unfortunately, with the advent of digital media the reading habit is becoming obsolete, especially among young minds. Technology is good but when everything is replaced by it the outcome will not always be good. Gone are the days when the libraries and bookshops were filled with people and the titles of or quotes from the famous books had an important place in conversations. Today’s children are losing the joy of reading. So, as parents/teachers/elders it is our responsibility to ignite the thirst for reading in young minds. Knowledge is power. It is very important to convince every child the benefits of reading. Reading helps to improve our focus, concentration, memory-power, knowledge, vocabulary and writing skills.it is a great source for stress reduction. It enhances our imagination and empathy and is also known as the best exercise for brain. More- over, reading is fun. All these astounding outcomes of reading cannot be gotten by technology exposure. The key to encourage reading habits in kids is reading with them at home from a young age. Watching us reading magazines, newspapers and books shows our child that reading is important and it motivates them.Unfor- tunately, the latest generation sees their parents with a phone always in one hand. It is time to think wisely for our kids.let us be a role model for them. Few ways to plant the seeds of reading in your child 1) Read with them. Show them that you love reading. Be an example. 2) Instead of gifting toys, chocolates or other things, try to gift them good books also sometimes. 3) Keep reading materials in the house. 4) Talk about what you are reading and motivate them to explain what they are reading. This will create an interest in them to read more. Written By, Christena Joseph 5) Visit libraries, bookshops or book exhibitions when possible. *XDUGLDQ$QJHO Guardian Angel noun a spirit that is thought to watch over and protect a person or place. \"the soul was accessible to the gaze of your guardian angel\" Mr. Google has never disappointed me. He has always managed to ponder the world of synonyms to come up with an exact or a similar solution to my queries. I hail from a generation where child abuse and child molestation was a strange word for my auditory receptors. My fellow generations and I were surrounded by people who took care of us as if we were the most precious piece of God’s creations. As a child I had always wondered why did those people who had used to appreciate me on my achievements, who stood by my side as my motivators, who took pride to introduce me to their fellow mates as a modest child didn’t hesitate to punish me even on my minute mischief. I had found these peculiar people at my home and in my school who had outstretched their protective hands for me all throughout my childhood keeping me away from the words “molestation and abuse”. Today as a mother of a seven year old child, in a world where the above mentioned words have become the most familiar one, I realize that it was my parents and teachers whom Mr. Google was trying to point his fingers previous- ly. My dear Guadian Angels !! Whenever I step into the premises of the Bhavans Wise Indian Academy school, I am fortunate enough to find those old faces again whom I had lost once upon a time after my school days. I feel overwhelmed that my child is also fortunate enough to be surrounded by a bunch of Guardian Angels who are in the virtuous circle of mend- ing our children to be the best human beings of tomorrow. I take this opportunity to thank you and appreciate the effort that you are taking to enlighten the spirit of humanity along with the academics in our children through various activities. Reminder: Apart from our parents, our teachers are the only people in this world who will address us as a child, no matter how much ever older we have become in due course of time. And in them we see Our Guardian Angels. A Knight in Shining Armour !! Written : Fatima Delphy M/o: Sidharth Abishek Grade 1B 1

& OLPDWH& KDQJHʶH,QYLVLEOH3DQGŸDŔV%R[ Over the last few years the world has witnessed the gushing force of changes in the climate and weather conditions throughout the globe. What we must understand is that Climate Change is not a probable reality; it is the actual reality. To think that all the topmost scientific organizations have already signaled the alarm of a fast approaching apocalypse should be seen by each and every commoner as a desperate attempt to warn us of their failure, in spite of all their technological advancements, to comprehend the wrath of nature. The Paris climate the accord had indeed come up with certain regulations and promises to cut short the amount of co2 emissions throughout the first, second and third world countries in the aftermath of a series of global events and the alarming rise of ozone layer depletion, forest fires, floods, melting of polar ice caps, etc. It is easy to understand that already the time had passed for us to stop this climatic phenomenon and its effects will push us all to the zenith of our abilities and evolution for a span of fifty years from now. And all these accords and oaths should be seen as an action born out of fear for existence and not out of pure love for nature and the environment. But the curious thing is that we human beings, throughout the history, learn, relearn and unlearn everything and evolve only when we are pushed to the brink or after the occurrence of the event. And history repeats itself; the world still does not trust each other and are busy arming themselves with the so-called state of the art nuclear arsenal, thereby expanding their geopolitics and strictly following what you call neo-colonialism. One must note that all these irrationalities are taking place right alongside a tortured and burning world; yes you read that right- the world is on fire, literally. Climate change in the world is caused due to various activities. When climate change occurs, temperatures can increase and decrease dramatically. It will result in more floods, droughts, or intense rain, as well as more frequent heat waves. It is high time that we human beings, the so-called or self-declared superior beings who stand at the top of the animal ladder with all our evolutionary intellect to act upon this and find a feasible solution. If the earth’s temperatures continue to rise like this towards the future, living beings on earth would burn themselves to extinction. If each and every one of us were to stand united against this and take a stand just like emerging young minds like Greta Thunberg, and at least try to end most of the climate changes that are occurring by striking a peace deal; no even better, to ask for forgiveness from nature, then surely this would be a safe place to live on for the several generations to come. But what is missed in the process is the story behind each scientific fact. We all know how to work on computers having a little or no knowledge about the machine language or binary digits. This indicates that the basic language behind scientific research tends to be complicated and inaccessible for layman. However, if an ordinary person hears the story behind a particular scientific research and its usefulness in his daily life then the amount of work that goes into any specific research would be appreciated better. This in turn would help to build a two way bridge between the scientific community and common man. As teachers we are aware of the power of storytelling as a method of communicating curricular topics to our students. A single statement - “Let me tell you a story” - creates sudden excitement, curiosity and interest among students. It helps to draw their immediate attention to the speaker. In higher grades, this can transform the general mood of the children from serious, uninter- ested and tense to relaxed and familiar and this makes the communication with them much easier. The incredible power of communication which storytelling has fuels the imagination and creativity in both teachers and students alike. A good story motivates learners to explore more into a field and also into wider fields. Interweaving storytelling with science can be made use of for effective communication and popularization of science. A story not only contributes to learning but also helps to be speculative, to raise relevant questions and most importantly find solutions. However, to maintain the scientific content and avoid dilution of the topic, teachers should be true to scientific facts and information while communicating. Thus, the art of storytelling can guide the non-expert audience with the necessary informa- tion about the developments and facts in the field of science while keeping the content intact but interesting; thereby bridge the gap between science and language. $ſWXGHLVD& KķFH& KƖH3ŹˏYH $ˇDKDP/LQFROQ “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows” is an optimistic quote by the famous American author Helen Keller. This quote becomes more significant as it is from a visually and aurally challenged and it reflects her life experience. Faith, hope, and love can only be achieved when we look into the positive aspects of life. It’s all about how each one of you reacts to the circumstances in your life. From where can we acquire knowledge to have a positive outlook? This is very subjective as there is no common recipe for living that suits all individuals alike. It has a lot to do with our perception and attitude. Positivity is all about having an optimistic view of life which includes the right attitude, being the more confident and overall higher quality of thoughts. With positivity comes happiness and there is a strong correlation between kindness and happiness. Those who engage in acts of kindness seem to be happier in life. Even a small gesture can have a dramatic and constructive effect on the people around us. “What we resist not only persists but will grow in size” The messages conveyed by the world-renowned psychologist Carl Jung in his thought-provoking quote is when you oppose things you don’t want; your actual focus is on what you really don’t need. You receive what you focus on and where your focus is on the unwanted things. The challenge here is to train your mind to sieve your thoughts. You must learn to keep negative thoughts at bay and embrace the positive. Hereafter let us aim to improve our life by choosing affirmative thoughts thus attract- ing more positivity into our life.
