A dictator is a ruler with total power over a country, typically one who has obtained control by force. - Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor and used the power he was appointed with to keep gaining more power to eventually become a dictator. - Kim Jong Un was born into a family of previous dictators of North Korea and to this day still controls the country.

Tips & Tricks to Getting Your Power - One way dictators may earn their power is manipulating laws, government, and political parties. - They do this by changing laws for people of the majority group so that they have their support and are able to change the way their country is ran. - If a dictator gets the support from the majority group, he or she can later make changes o the laws and government in his or her favour. - Joseph Stalin transformed the Soviet Union from a “peasant society” into an “industrial and military superpower” - In March of 2018, Xi Jinping removed the presidency terms right before his presidency was over so he would be able to maintain his power.

How to Keep Your Power - Step One To censor information as a dictator means to ensure that there is nothing of your opposition put out against you. - Dictators uses the ability of censoring to make themselves look like better dictators because if there is nothing against them the people of their nation believe they are the greatest and only person to lead their country. - Joseph Stalin took people of his opposition out of pictures to make himself look better. - Kim Jong Un used censorship to outlaw social media contact with countries other than North Korea itself because he knows his people would find out the truth about his rule if they had the ability to know the things the rest of the world knows.

How to Keep Your Power - Step 2 One of the most powerful ways to maintain your power as a dictator is brainwashing those under your rule. - If a dictator brainwashes the people he rules, they will do almost anything they say or do. - A dictator can brainwash the people in many different ways. - Adolf Hitler brainwashed the youth of his rule by sending them to Nazi schools. This taught them how be Nazi’s and do as Hitler pleased at a young age while their brains were undeveloped. - Kim Jong Un began brainwashing children at very young ages, he began some brainwashing as soon as kindergarten for some students in Korea.

How to Keep Your Power - Step Three Dictators repress their opposition basically with the same concept as censoring the press. - If there is no opposition to the dictator, the people won’t have anyone to replace them. - Stalin used this in the Soviet Union by killing those who went against him. - Kim Jong Un used this by killing one of his brothers who was in line to the throne prior to himself.

How to Keep Your Power - Step Four All dictators at some point in time have used the method of torture and imprisonment of oppositions. - Hitler used this method throughout the holocaust and world war 2. He killed millions of people who he blamed for Germany’s problems and people who were fighting against him. - Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons against his people multiple times because in his eyes he believed that they were going to rise up and go against his rule.

How to Keep Your Power - Step Five The dictators utilize the military to put fear in other nations and their secret police is utilized by ensuring the people of their nation is speaking against the dictators. This is useful because they wanted to create fear and they created it, no one wanted to go against them because they knew what would happen if they did. - Stalin used this by getting rid of all opposition and killing the ones who went against him. - Vladimir Putin uses this by ensuring no one runs against his presidency, Putin was caught having those who ran against him killed before the elections.

Dictators use propaganda to keep their power by not talking about/ showing all the awful things they are doing for their power. - Hitler used propaganda by not showing all the things the Nazi’s were doing to ensure they looked like they were doing the right things. - Kim Jong Un uses this to maintain his power by keeping it private that over half of his country is living in poverty and dying from starvation.

How to Keep Your Power - Step Seven Nationalism is identification with one’s own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations. Genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. Hitler utilized genocide by killing all the Jews possible blaming them for the extreme debt from World War 1 by saying that the jews were greedy and only cared about money and materials. Kim Jong Un utilized nationalism by ensuring that his country believes they are the the best and that there is no country better than North Korea.

How to Keep Your Power - Step Eight -Ethnic Conflict - conflict between two or more contending ethnic groups, while the source of the conflict may be political, social, economic, or religious, the individuals in conflict most expressly fight for their ethnic groups position within society. -If there is ethnic ethnic conflict inside of a country, the dictator may use this to his or her advantage because they could encourage one side to help them in certain ways that will help his or her cause. -When World War One was over, Hitler blamed the Jews for the extreme poverty in Germany, he believed that all that Jewish people cared for is materials. This quickly led to the holocaust.

How to Keep Your Power - Step Nine -Most dictators use forces such as military and secret police forces to maintain their power. -When dictators utilize these forces, it causes terror & puts fear in other nations & the people of the nation they have control over. -Hitler used his police forces to put fear in the people of Germany so they wouldn’t try to go against him and speak about him in a negative way. This also led to the holocaust. -Kim Jong Un used his military in 2018 to scare other nations by building up his military and threatening to use nuclear weapons against other countries.
