John and TJ have resided in Hillsdale County since 1985 and have raised 3 children here. Beginning in 1993, WIN Publishing began publishing the Community Plus+ Magazine. The Community Plus+ Magazine was published with the philosophy on bringing good news to the county on a monthly basis. The Community Plus+ was published until 2000 when WIN Publishing decided to publish a county-wide phone directory. Starting in 2011 our county-wide directory name was updated to The Greater Hillsdale County Phone Directory. The marketing team of Cindy and Al Eckhardt, long-time Hillsdale residents, has handled advertising sales in previous publications. Sadly, Al passed away March 8, 2015. He is greatly missed as a friend and business associate. 4 There are many reasons to give to charities and others in need. A reason for giving. First and foremost is that we, as many of us are caring human beings, want to make things better and to assist others in their time of distress and difficulty. The distress may be a natural distaster such as a flood, hurricane, tornado or severe drought. It could also be a family dealing with the loss of a loved one or a severe illness. It could be a fire to their home. Most of these types of contributions are given directly to those in need and not to an organization or charity. As caring brothers and sisters we like to help. Many times this help is in the form of a contribution. And many times the contribution is money. The contribution can also be in the form of your time. You take the time to help clean up after a disaster, rebuild what you can, provide meals and even to assist in caring for children or the elderly. Another reason to give. You are passionate about the goals that the organization is trying to achieve. They are compatible with your beliefs whether it be to feed the hungry, provide housing for those in need or help remediate a natural disaster. They can even be a donation to a school’s athletic or library fund. Your passion may include environmental issues or disease research. There are many valid reasons. Best reason for giving. Save a life. A giving side effect. A side effect of your giving is that it does make you feel good. This is not the purpose of you giving and if you are truly giving, you expect no accolades for your contribution. But you cannot hide the fact that is does make you feel good. Sorry, but this is part of human nature. Big charities lead the way. Sometimes your donations go to one of the major charities. Look it up. There are thousands.
