Sustainable Development Champions convene to pave the way for a More Sustainable Future Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU), took a significant step in its sustainable development initiatives as it held its first-ever BatStateU Sustainability Summit 2023. The event “Usapang Sustainability: Upholding Sustainability Practices and Approaches in Higher Education” convened the university’s Sustainable Development Committee members, heads, and other leaders on January 24. The summit aims to generate new sustainable development concepts and practices based on the rich context and expertise of its 11 eleven campuses. It also seeks to inspire new approaches to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. During his speech, University President Tirso A. Ronquillo emphasized the importance of achieving SDG 17: “We are one for all, with SDG 17 as a catalyst to improve our quality of life, protect our environment, and preserve natural resources for future generations.” Dr. Reginald G. BatStateU-The NEU and BCRMF partner for youth-led environmental solutions Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU), and Batangas Coastal Resources Management Foundation (BCRMF) partnered for a project called the Batangas Social Innovation Challenge (BASIC) on March 21. Through this project, BASIC shall invite youth leaders, students, young professionals, and out-of-school youth between 18 to 30 with determination, creativity, innovativeness, dedication, and passion for saving the environment and improving the environmental condition of their locality or community.
