Janet Kelman A few months ago, I received a commission to create a sculp- Fused and Slumped Glass ture for a local library. I am excited! Installation is not until next SO Years Experience in Glass Art summer, so it will be a winter project. My stamina, but more importantly my desire to make things in my studio, is gradually For SO years, I have supported myself with my art. I have returning, and I am grateful. My friend, Marcia, a ceramicist, said worked hard over my entire career, much harder than I might have it is good to take a year off. I wish I had planned for that earlier. if I'd had a better sense of business. I regret now that I expended so much life energy on my work. I have an image of barely keeping www.janetkelman.com my head above water, but I like making things! I am always curious [email protected] about materials and their possibilities, perhaps even more so than the final product. I used to swim regularly and walk with friends regularly, but the studio still took most of my attention and energy. When I turned 70, my energy collapsed, and I took a year and a half off. I stared at the wall, gardened, and made pendant lamps for a friend's kitchen. I thought about retiring. Then a year and a half ago, a gallery in Florida found me and wanted my work. They have since sold almost every piece I have sent them. It is really a lot of fun , and I am working at a slower pace. d slumped s/ie Patron.
