Reflections BE THE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS Yes, our Lord is a coming God. He comes in many ways. He comes in the silence of contemplative prayer. He comes in the sacraments. He comes in the people we encounter and with whom we form the relationships. He comes in the events of our lives. In order for us to respond properly to the hand of God in our lives, we must be persons of faith. However, this is not the faith of blind belief, although this is sometimes required. It is the profound faith of personal encounter and relationship. Persons with this kind of faith are very sensitive to God. They do not attempt to manipulate or control him who has plans for them. They simply try to be open to his ways of coming, discerning of his presence, then they try to respond. Modern era forgot who God is. Same mistake of Adam and people of Babel. Creation forgot the creator. When man cast the Lord out of his life, he discovered an infinite void, an emptiness which left him anxious and searching for something to fulfill it. Our task, our challenge is somehow to rise above the unholy events which confront us each day and to remain faithful. Being a true follower of Christ is indeed, hard work. It is easy to fabricate a life on sand, to build a quiet hut with shoddy materials and relax during the noon day heat. But come the storms of life, some trauma and onslaught of mature living, our faith will be sustained only if built solidly upon the Rock of God. Christians have been chosen by God to bring something special into the lives of others. Each of us who profess to follow the way of Jesus is to be a blessing for others. However, for this to take place we must adopt the sense of poverty in which we begin to see ourselves as servants not only of the Lord himself, but of our fellow humans as well. Christ in each of us reminds us to walk that extra mile. To be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our children need to be taught the dignity of life. They grow up and become adults that form the society we live. The activities and experience they encounter, mold their lives. CML group activities teach brotherhood, compassion, and forgiveness. Children who involve in the charity activities most often get motivated by those encounters. I am sure if you talk to our priests and nuns or lay leaders in the Church, they will share their mission experiences in childhood that molded them. Children often are easily forgiving and eager to form friends. When mission activities are done as groups, whether visiting a sick, or doing any group charity, this foster great friendships. Children involved in various Mssion League activities have the opportunity to encounter the goodness of God. It might sow a small seed that stays with them for life : The picture of a God who awaits in our hearts to bring the greatest gift of himself. And when difficulties come knocking on their door, they may able to turn to the loving Lord for grace to overcome them. May CML help our children to become the hands and feet of Jesus.
