Outside the Gate November 17, 2017 Highway Construction and Road Closures You may experience some delays while driving in Belgium this season. Road construction projects are occurring throughout the country and may result in temporary lane closures and road congestion. We will provide regular updates to ensure that the community is informed and prepared. Tournai-Mons (E42): There is a new road construction project in Bernissart. Work on a bridge started Nov. 13 and is expected to last two years. Traffic will be reduced to only one lane in the direction of Mons. This new construction project is only 20 km between Mons and Obourg. Brussels (R0): Another road construction project will begin Nov. 16 in Brussels. Increased road congestion is expected Nov. 16-17 and Nov. 20-21 on R0. On Nov. 16, workers will be in Strombeek-Bever. On Nov. 17, they will be on E40 Ostende- Bruxelles in Grand-Bigard. Next week, they are expected to be in Zellik. Hal-Lessines (E429): Pay attention if you are driving from Zutendaal. There is road congestion on E429, between Hal and Lessines, in the direction of Tournai. Traffic is reduced to one lane, and the speed of traffic is reduced to 50 km/h. Mons-Obourg (E19-A7): There are still road congestion because of the rehabilitation of the section between Mons and Obourg in the direction of Brussels. Work is expected to be completed by the end of this month. Mons/Nimy: Because of the Mons-Obourg project, there is still road congestion at all hours of the day on the boulevards in Mons and on N6 between Mons and the access to the highway in Nimy. Route de Wallonie: This construction project is not completed yet. Try to avoid this road in Ghlin for another week. There was another project on the Route de Wallonie in Hautrage, but it is now completed. Andenne/Daussoux (E42/A15): The three-way yard project between Andenne and Daussoulx has been underway since August. This project involves 15 km in both directions. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained. Work is expected to be completed by August 2018. Please be cautious and patient while driving at all times.
