January 6, 2017Howdy Pardners!On behalf of the Curriculum and Instruction Department, it is my pleasure towelcome you to the 2nd Annual Elementary Winter Symposium on January 6,2017, at Wernecke Elementary.This year’s theme for the symposium is “Pardners in Excellence—Roundin’ Up theWagons for Success.” During this professional development day, we will offeraccess to a broad range of sessions focused on “best practices”, curricularalignment and standards-based instruction.We invite you to engage and network with presenters and participants to fullybenefit from this symposium-style professional development day. Typically,sharing “best practices” from educator to educator in formal and informalsettings leads to self-reflection and professional learning and growth. Receiving Credit for Attendance* The staff development day on January 6, 2017 is divided in four blocks of 80 minutes,or eight blocks of 40 minutes. Concurring sessions will follow different schedulesdepending on their duration, however the schedule is designed to allow teachers totransition from one session to the next with enough time.*Participants will earn 2 SBEC credits for attending each 80 min. session and 1 SBECcredit for each 40 min. session.* All participants are required to earn the equivalent of at least 7 SBEC credits duringthe symposium. A validation sticker will be given to participants at the end of eachsession. Stickers collected need to be placed on the personalized schedule andsubmitted to the LAST presenter of the day, or at the registration desk.* All teachers are encouraged to use half of one of the \"split block\" session (40 min.) tovisit the Exhibit Hall and network with other teachers.*It is highly recommended that participants start and end the session they haveregistered to attend. Emergencies arise and we understand. If you have an emergency,please let one of your administrators know if you need to leave unexpectedly.* Teachers teaching reading and math must attend one 80 min. session of Istation.Principals may excuse individal teachers from this requirement under specialcircumstances.* Special groups like ARK teachers, self-contained paraprofessionals, resourceparaprofessionals, principals, asst. principals and counselors will follow their specificschedule and will be required to sign in at their specific session to receive credit forattendance.***Please do not forget to submit your Personalized Schedule validated with stickers to the LASTpresenter on your schedule to receive appropriate credit for attendance.
