St u f f 2 Read The Lost Inca City Machu Picchu Located in Peru, South America, is Machu Picchu (the mysterious Lost IncaCity) a 15th century Inca citadel in the Eastern Cordillera of south of Peru. On a 7,970 ft mountain ridge it is located in the Cusco region abovethe sacred valley. TheUrubambariver flowsthrough it. The word Machu means ancient or old and Picchu- peak or mountain. The Lost City was established by the Inca emperor, Pachacuti or Pachacutec, the greatest statesman of Tahuantinsuyo (theIncaword for expansiveempire).
The City wasdiscovered by an American explorer, Hiram Bingham, in the year 1911. Historians suggest that it was a ceremonial or spiritual site. This site is not only an impressive remnant of the Inca civilization; it is also one of the world's most important archaeological sites. Explorers who re-discovered the ancient city and found its civilization similar to that of the Inca civilization. One theory suggests that it was unknown to the Incas. Historiansalso believe that the Lost City was at the height of the Inca empire, which dominated western South America in the 15th/ 16th centuries. The Salkantay trek/ trail is the most popular alternative trek to Machu Picchu for a good reason: It offers hikers an amazingly diverse trekking experience. The ancient trail laid by the Incasfrom the Sacred Salkantay Mountain to Machu Picchu windsitsway up and down and around the mountains, snaking over two high Andean passes en route, which have collectively led to the route being dubbed 'The Salkantay Inca Trail'. The views of snowy mountain peaks, distant rivers and ranges, and cloud forestsflush with orchidsarestupendous! So if you didn?t know about the Lost IncaCity, you know it now! By SampritaRajesh, Grade7, Oman

THE HYDRANGEA Raced I down the hill, came across a beautiful sight One Hydrangea there alone like a beautiful candlelight Beside the building and beneath the tree Like a vast never-ending sea The Hydrangea, so beautiful and fascinating The Hydrangea, the queen so mesmerizing One sight of ?em, and your life is blessed It removes from our mind, the expression of distressed The wind blows, kissing their petals That one task can give you many medals It?s beauty rules the land, It?s fragrance rules the air.
But then came a boy, running towards the flower, With greedy eyes, picked he up the flower with all his power. The hydrangea which always looked so beautiful, Was now pleading to the merciful, It beseeched, ?Thee lord...Thee merciful, have mercy on this poor flower, I just want to sit alone beneath the trees which always had me bower? Anyone watching that sight...would start sobbing, Because, the head which was always so proud was now bobbing. Sibelius composed fruitfully until the mid-1920s, he stopped composing his major works after completing his Seventh Symphony (1924), the incidental music for The Tempest (1926) and the tone poem Tapiola (1926). Although he is reputed to have stopped composing, he attempted to continue writing, including abortive efforts on an eighth symphony. In later life, he wrote Masonic music and re-edited some earlier works while retaining an active but not always favourable interest in new developments in music. The Finnish 100 mark note featured his image until 2002, when the Euro was adopted. Since 2011, Finland has celebrated a Flag Day on 8 December, the composer 's birthday, also known as the \"Day of Finnish Music\". Here is his most famous composition, Finlandia: Finlandia: Jean Sibelius Click the link above to hear this composition being played. Here are the i ngredi ents below: - 1 cup of milk or half and half, l u kew arm - ½ cup sugar - 4 teaspoons act ive dry yeast - 1 t ablespoon cardamom seeds crushed or 1¼ t ablespoons ground cardamom - ½ teaspoon salt - ½ cup but ter, very very soft - 2 eggs - 4 cups all-purpose flour Fi l l i n g - ¼ cup sugar - 1 teaspoon cardamom - ¼ cup but ter, softened - 1 egg, for egg w ash, w hisked - Turbinado or rock sugar, for spinning over t he rolls, or regular su g ar
Here are the steps to mak e i t: 1.Take a bow l and combine the milk, ½ cup of sugar and the yeast and stir. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until the yeast dissolves and starts to bubble. 2.In the bow l of your mixer add the eggs, very soft butter, cardamom, salt and w ith the w hisk attachment, mix everything together. Add the yeast mixture and continue mixing until it is well combined. Change to the dough hook and add a cup of flour at a time and mix until you add all the flour. If the dough is too sticky add a bit more flour, but continue mixing until the dough separates from the bow l and forms a ball. 3.Cover the bow l w ith plastic w rap. Let the dough rise for 1½-2 hours until it has doubled in size.
4. In a small bow l combine the sugar and cardamom together for the filling. Line 2 baking sheets w ith parchment paper. 5.Add a bit of flour on your work surface. Punch the dough and gently place it on your work surface. Cut dough into 4 equal pieces. Working w ith one piece at a time, cover the other rolls so that they don't dry out. Roll each piece as thin as you can, should be about 12 inches by 18 inches. Brush some soft butter onto it. Make sure it?s nicely buttered. Sprinkle some of the cardamom sugar over the entire surface as much as you want. Roll it into a tight log starting from one of the narrow ends. W ith the seam side dow n, line up the dough log in front of you and cut it on the diagonal, alternating up and dow n, so that the slices are fat ?v?shapes, w ith the point of ?v?about ¾ w ide and the base about 2 inches w ide. Place on the prepared baking sheet
turn so the narrow tip of the ?v?is facing up to the ceiling. Repeat w ith remaining dough pieces. (W hew, that was a long step.) 6.Preheat the oven to 350 F degrees. 7.Let the rolls rise again for about 30-40 minutes. Do not skip this step. Brush the rolls w ith egg wash and then sprinkle w ith coarse sugar. Bake for about 18-20 minutes and check to see if it's cooked through, continue baking for a few more minutes if necessary. Let it cool and store in airtight bags to keep them soft. And tadaaa!!! Your Finnish cardamom rolls are ready or should I say ?finnished?. W hen you want to eat them, heat them in the oven for just a few minutes and serve w ith butter. Hope you enjoy your meal!!! YAY ! ! !
