Feel the fabric-IT SPEAKS WITH YOU

From the Director,Fashion today needs to a complete new understanding. Fashion today makessense when its conscious, sustainable and local. There is so much to do around thefabrics, weaves, our culture and our heritage. India has so much to offer. If one works on one weave a collection I am sure we are going to be busy allthrough our lives. We should start seeking within ourselves and our GREAT LAND!I would like to see fashion for each one of us. I am sure no one wants to be anumber (8,10,12) or an alphabet (S,M,L). As designers, one should look at thepossibilities of making one on one clothing and making the person understand theirown signature style and discover their own uniqueness rather than fitting into acookie cutter silhouette, colour or style. YES! Red Is for some, Neon is for some,Black is for some and PoP is for some. It takes all kinds to make the world anamazing Place to be.We only have one life!We should live our own rather than wanting to be someone else!!Being “YOU” is the most easiest, deepest and the most beautiful way to live!!- Dr Sharmila Nagraj Nandula

From the Guest Editor. Fashion; as someone rightly said, has nothing do with money orbeing rich. Fashion definitely have a lot to do with people. People?Yes, their creativity, perspective and ability of make sense. Fashionis the way we perceive and understand things. Technically, it is the way of life. Often, one might feel the other being dressed weirdly, but, to be frank, it is their style or way of dressing. Fashion doesn’t end with fabric, or the way one dresses up, it in fact beings there. Fashion more or less depends on the way onecarries themselves. Bringing life into a piece of cloth is what fashiondesigners and models do in todays world. Unless I feel the connect with the fabric and the design, I don’t feel like buying it, hence it plays a role in the industry of design. Explore, experiment, experience! And this could be taken as my style statement. -Kalyan Raygalla,

Fashion is a derivation of taste, a very personal andslowly moulded sense of self. As a designer I've foundthat its hard to predict how a design would beperceived by the customers. This time however beinga model I found it a bit tougher, walking down aramp and putting forward all the confidence possiblefor the audience to believe that your design is worththe time and effort put into it. Also, a first handexperience into the last minute possible chaos andconfusion right before a show was well encounteredthrough the show.- Shiuli Chandra Shuyli Chandra

Though I was filled with excitement, Ialso faced a lot of tension andpressure with lot of mixed emotions;as I was working on my garment tillthe last moment. When it comes to designing thegarment, I wanted a boxy fit wherethe body curves are not shown andalso which had a proper fall. As thiswas my first show I wanted my modelto be confident enough and becomfortable with the garment.•Shahbaz Abbas Ayushi Kalra

Minimalism; subtle strength in simplicity. This has been my mantra every time I design something.... I like it keep things simple and to the point. We started working on a project called Composite Product Design -II where all our learnings throughout the semester comes together under one roof. We work in groups but gets marked individually and I think that's the best part about every CPDs. We had to design on some given criteria. We had 4 members in a group and we had to design a garment individually but at the end it has to look like one collection (including four of our designs). The given time was 1 week and in that 1 week we had to do brand research to understand the current market, brainstorming, sketching some more brainstorming to come up with a meaningful design before we start making it. We had to Drape the garment on the body form and stitch it accordingly. We also had our internal at the end of the module where we had to stand together as a group but give individual presentations to explain our design. And it is also very important to justice with your own design. My design was a one side cold shoulder box fit crop top and a low waist full length pencil fit skirt. Fashion design process and seasons Karishma Narang have always inspired and urged me to come up with unique designs of my style. Materialising the whole design and procuring the final outcome was a task and also grooming, managing, modelling, photoshoots all were a complete new experience to me. Also, I never felt so elegant and glamorous until the spotlight spotted me. - Alekhya KorukondaSamvitha

It’s an all round experience about how everything goes from draping a garment, exploring different fabrics, how different fabrics work differently, making a garment and showcasing it in the form of fashion show. It’s a privilege to know what actually happens backstage. It’s all opposite to what we see on the ramp. Despite the glam factor, there’s an army of people working to make sure the show goes off without a hitch. This was a great start of exposure to the fashion world. -AnoohyaAnoohya

Ishita PV, a Junior Student says……. I have experienced fashion week at woxsen as a model. I wore a summer wear casual long frock designed by my senior Divya. Modeling was one of my childhood dream so it didn't give me any thought not to participate. All were tasteful garments in wonderful colors and fabrics. The ambience was kept very artistic, designed with vivid and minimal colors. The organization was appealing. My experience with heels were few. So they made us to practice for 3days before the event which gave me a confidence to walk freely in front of audience. The fashion show atmosphere was filled with glamorous music. In attendance were about one-hundred students as well as faculties. My outfit was very comfortable which made me walk free. Overall it was a great experience and I would like to participate more in such Fashion weeks.Gayathri

It all started with thoughts of making a mark of fashion in this place. By everyone's support I was able to setup thingsthe way it has to be without being compromised. First I felt it was all about clothes and paper but when we started toorganise we wear exposed to all other things that are connected and has to be taken care off. I have a greatlearning managing to set up things with available resources specially setting off the green room was challengingwhere I had to take care of others departments like hair-makeup and styling room. Also I had to choreography onwhich everything else was dependent and 25 to 30 rehearsals over the period of 5 days to get the best work out ofthem in this case the model where very supportive.Coming to the organising part I have learnt one thing which was to expect the unexpected at the last moment therewere few challenges due to some external reasons and I had to find a backup plan at the peak moment.working with garments for this long time we have created a perception which was totally different when on ramp andnow I have better understanding and exposure in the sense of how should I look at a garment. It was a privilege to have initiated the first walks in fashion show and moment it was over all of us include theaudience where proud of being a part of this show. I faced ups and downs throughout the journey it took a lot ofresearch work to bring out the best out of each department like styling hair and makeup, green room and organisingteam. It was a first step to the beginning of a great journey.By Arnab Chanda

You really can’t prepare for what Fashion Shows will throw at you…you really just have to face it head-on and experience it for yourself. I enjoyed the whole process from draping the garment till the ramp. I can’t be more thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this show. It really goes to show that you can achieve any dream you put your mind and hard work into. - Aasawari AgrawalKoushiki

I always believed that Fashion, is an intimatesocial and political expression of who weare as a person. And learning about fashionwidens our perspective about the way yousee the garment, were it appears to be amasterpiece if we go through the process. And, I experienced that through thismodule. The garment is inspired from the masculinityand the feminism together making aminimal garments, with Sharpe edge cuts. And this helped me in learning about thedesign thinking, were it helps not only in thedesigning but also in the life.- Alekhya Adla Alekhya

Fashion as term sounds fancy and ramp walks somesmerising are only the final picture of the work andeffort the happened behind the scenes. It's was an extravagant experience, to see my designwalking on the ramp, though it's just stepping stone tothe journey lying ahead, but it gave a lot ofunderstanding about how the journey of a garmentfrom our imagination to illustration to a person actuallywearing it.Everything about fashion is special and job of a truefashion designer is not only designing a garment butcompleting the whole style and look, that complimentsyour garment and makes its beauty stand out.By Divya Bhaskar Sai Mounika

Whoever said ladies take hours to getready has never seen what happens in abackstage of a fashion show. Fashion is justnot about the glamour its about the hardwork put behind every garment till thetime of fashion show. You can’t really get the full experience ofa fashion show unless you’re there behindthe backstage pinning, tapeing, runningand fixing. The one motive we all had incommon was to put up a beautiful showand for one main reason – exuberant joyof celebrating fashion and style.-Vibha Reddy Vibha Reddy

Toral Yadav writes….The entire experience is still so surreal to me. Therecan be no greater tension in the fashion worldthan the brief moments just before the musicstarts, the lights blaze and the model hit thecatwalk. Fashion shows are so fabulous, but yougo backstage and you see what is reallyhappening “you see the work” quick fixes, lastminute changes and the whole lot of runningaround. I’m glad I had such unique experiencesof being a designer as well as a model. Mesmerizing & Elegant

This was completely a new experience for me. it is easy to sit and watch the show but what actually is, It is all behind the screen. It is enough for the designers to handle everything very quietly, to think about the look, the way their design should be showcased through there model and is conscious about how the entire show would be. Even the models have quiet challenging situations to handle. My first ever experience as a model was an amazing start, all of it was completely different of what I had in mind before experiencing it. The hustle bustle all that happens was a very new experience and loved all of it and learnt a lot from the WOXSEN FASHION WEEK! -Anjali singhGayathri

The marriage of spunk and confident with the contemporary style is what compels from inspiration to sketch. It’s almost an amalgamation of free spirited and courageous women, who love to be themselves. An ensemble of shift dress panelled all together to create a new look of shift and sheath dress. The look is kept young, feisty and confident with bold makeup. It was a different experience with all the rage happening at the back stage. From sketch to construction of fabric to sourcing of fabric all melt down to an amazing , challenging and happening experience.
