Polly was sitting under a big apple tree in a big barn. He was trying to read his new pink book. But alas! Polly couldn’t read. 2

Daffy duck came by. “Polly, you look sad!” said Daffy. “I know how to read, but I can’t read my new pink book,” cried Polly. “Can you see those little fish in the pond?” asked Daffy. “No, I can’t,” said Polly. “Oh! May be you need glasses, just like me,” advised Daffy. 4

5

Polly hurried home and got his glasses. But that didn’t help. 6

Lizzy sheep came by. “Why do you look so unhappy?” asked Lizzy. “I know how to read but I can’t read this book. Not even with my glasses,” said Polly. “It’s very noisy here,” said Lizzy. “The watchdog is barking. The cow is mooing. The rooster is crowing. Find a quiet place.” 8

Polly sat under another apple tree. It was quiet here. But that didn’t help either. Marsha cow came by. “You don’t look happy,” she said. “I know how to read, but I can’t read this book. Not even with my glasses. Not even in a quiet place,” said Polly. 11

12

“I’m sorry, Polly,” Marsha said, “I cannot help you. I cannot read. But I love to listen to stories.” 13

Suddenly, a big apple fell on Polly’s head. “Ouch!” said Polly. A ladybird came by. She called out to Polly, “You are holding the book upside down, Polly.” Polly turned the book around. “I can read now! Thank you, ladybird,” said Polly happily. 14

15

Polly read out the story from his new pink book. Marsha cow and ladybird enjoyed listening to the story. 16 1371/1
