Did you know: During 2009 several municipal councils in New South Wales began trials of catching myna birds in an effort to reduce numbers.

Common myna articul The Common Myna, a native of southern Asia, was widely introduced (mainly for pest control) in the late 1800s in many far-flung areas of the world. Since these introductions, the species has displayed remarkable versatility by establishing itself in abundance in many parts of the new range. The Common Myna was introduced into the Hawaiian Islands in 1865 by William Hillebrand to control a plague of cutworms and army worms (Lepidoptera). By as early as 1879, this bird was abundant; today, i t is one of the most common and most widespread avian species in all of the human-inhabited islands. In the continental United States, the species first appeared in Florida in the mid-1980s and seems to be spreading and establishing itself in that state.
