What is the the origin of my invasive species (where did it come from)? History and Range. The Sirex woodwasp, S. noctilio, is native to Europe, Asia and north Africa. It was first discovered in North America in 2004 in a trap in Fulton, NY (Oswego County). In its native habitat it is considered a secondary or minor pest.

What type of biological threat does my invasive species pose This can lead to adult wasps emerging in recently completed buildings or structures. Although these insects are extremely annoying, they aren't harmful to humans or structures. They attack only trees and won't bore into wood in buildings or furniture.
