Doing Good Things with… Dyslexia Family Hub BY BRANDEY WADE SHOUT OUT The team supporting CCISD students identified with dyslexia designed the DYSLEXIA FAMILY HUB. This NEW Canvas course will appear on students’ Canvas Dashboards soon. The purpose of this course is to support students and connect with their families to ensure academic success in CCISD. Click and Learn: New CCISD Canvas Course Design A New Canvas Course Design is in place for the 22-23 school year! In Grades K-5 all students have access to Weekly Modules in each course that include Weekly Spotlights. Teachers just PUBLISH the weekly module for students and parents to access the content designed during Summer Curriculum Writing. Most secondary courses also provide access to content through modules. Teachers give access to students by PUBLISHING these modules.

Equity of Access Students across the district have access to Canvas no matter which class they are enrolled. This provides equitable access to learning resources. Luminate With LUMIO LEARNERS Kaffie Principal Bucky Hartman, Tammy Guzman, Geno Ellis (ITAs) and Melissa Stewart (Science Teacher) learn about Lumio. Mrs. Stewart will use PHET Demonstrations of Atoms in her Science classes. Lum.io increases student engagement in your lessons. Lumio offers engaging features like: Individual Handouts, Interactive Games, and Ready-Made Graphic Organizers Grant MS Social Studies teacher, Lisa Trejo usies Lumio to model annotating on Maps with the pens and highlighters tools. Aida York Student Support Center Aida York is the Paraprofessional for ISS at the Student Support Center. The ISS room at SSC is referred to the “Choice” room. Aida says, “We are endeavoring to facilitate a paradigm shift from the students’ perception that ISS is punishment versus the consequence of the CHOICES one makes. Life is ALL about choices! It is fundamental and universal to all of us and we ultimately are responsible for the choices we make and thereby the consequences that are associated with those choices.”

Aida says “I am focusing more on students recognizing their own behavior and NOT to focus so much on others’ actions, reactions or behaviors. Although I am aware of our students’ challenges and preceding behavior, I tend to actively listen and more importantly, allow students to express themselves by assuring them that it safe to do so, but I also let students know that I am like the ‘guardrails’ on a railroad track-- to guide them to begin thinking about making better choices for their own success.” “I do not do this alone! The whole campus structure allows whatever success in the Choice Room that is achieved. The Administrators, teachers, counseling staff, CIS personnel and the Mental Health Specialist all provide the foundation for what we are striving to accomplish with our students.”

SHOUT OUT! Technology Stewards CCISD kicked off a new role this year called the Technology Steward. This group is led by Baldemar Gonzales the new Coordinator for Technology Standards. Technology stewards are appointed assistant principals at each campus who leads a committee of 4 or more to provide organization and guidance for technology on campus. Baldemar Gonzales is under the leadership of Sean Babcock, Chief Technology Officer and is a part of the Technology Department.

Let’s Get to Know Baldemar Gonzales Tell us about your new role: My name is Baldemar Gonzales. I have a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, a Master’s in Educational Leadership, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. As the District Technology Standards Coordinator, my role is to coordinate the implementation, management, and oversight of the District’s Technology Standards and develop proactive plans for ensuring district wide technology equipment is available today as well as tomorrow.

Let’s Get to Know Baldemar Gonzales What are your goals and vision for your new role? My vision as the Technology Standards Coordinator is to continue to provide the support and customer service to our district and community as we transition to our District Technology Standard. What information would you like to get out to teachers and leaders? CCISD is excited to announce that for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year, we have adopted a 1:1 student device program for grades 6-12. This provides students the tools to access, create, share, and collaborate as digital citizens. This reflects the district’s commitment to equip all students with 21st century skills and tools through best-practices and instructional strategies to become productive digital citizens.

(HB) 3906 passed by BUSINESS the 86th Texas AND Legislature in 2019 CORPORATE ❏ Wide range of education stakeholders, including the Assessment Education Advisory Committee, was included in decision making ❏ Implemented in the state summative assessments ❏ Will be administered in the 2022–2023 school year.
