1 Mr. Stewart G10M, S2 October 10, 2022 The story of Raye - simple - complex - compound - compound complex - Parallel list - Parallel: Correlative Conjunction - vocab A very long time ago, there lived a man called Raye. The countryside he lived in is full of golden sunflowers, yellow paddy fields, and the entire view of the farm shimmers under the bright sunlight.

2 He is quite kind hearted and always obeys to whatever other people want him to do. His mom, by the way, did not know how to change the situation and always complains how foolish his son is. The hard working life seems interminable to Raye. One day, when everything was just as usual as it was before, the king was tired of how peaceful and boring his people were. He wanted something exciting to happen. Therefore, he announced a tournament that held hundreds of people watching someone fight a terrific beast that looks like a rhino with the jaw from a hippo. Not only the winner can then gain a huge amount of money and fame, but also a chest full of gold. At first Raye did not think much about it. He only had money in his mind. Without any other second thoughts, he decided to compete and earn some money to keep his family wealthy. All of his friends, including his mom did not expect Raye to even have the courage to fight against the beast. In other words, they have

3 doubts about his abilities. The people laughed and played with him, telling him to do his duty and not make silly dreams about changing his life with just one fight. Before entering the arena, he went to praise the sun god temple for good fortune. Suddenly, a voice appears behind him, saying “If you want to win, you will need my powers.” Then, magically he becomes ten inches taller, and has the strength of a tiger. With the confidence he now has, he has become an intrepid warrior. When the time comes, he walks slowly toward the arena, stepping each step heavily, neither his friends nor his haters can recognize his appearance as Raye. Instead, they saw an assertive young man standing up against the beast face to face. The iron chamber closes immediately after he enters. He could see thousands of people watching him. Without any hesitation, he ran toward the beast, caught its neck and twirled it. In just a few seconds, the beast cried in a strident voice. After a few minutes, it was laying down steadily. Everyone cheered in amazement, even the ones that hated Raye before could not believe it. Later, the king announced the winner and granted a delightful chest full of gold to Raye.

4 The chest is covered by sparkling diamonds that Raye has not seen in his entire life. He can predict what his life will be like after receiving the gold from the king. However, mesmerized by the wealth, his mind only remains money and power. After the competition, Raye returned back to his hometown, wasted most of his money on buying new houses and fancy furniture, and used the power of the sun god to carry all the things with him. When he returns with this luxury, his mom has no idea how Raye got all that money, but she was quite satisfied by the wealth they now have. She enjoyed living in a life full of joy and no problems to think of. The huge amount of gold put Raye in such a mellow mood that he stopped worrying about anything. As the time passed, Raye became

5 more and more arrogant. He thinks that no one can stop him from doing anything. He punished the people that once hated him by beating them up and treating other people like slaves. On the other hand, his gold is starting to vanish completely. A year later from the last tournament, the king declared another fight against the most dangerous creature people had ever seen-”a fire dragon”. Raye could not wait for the fight to begin. He is eager for a huge amount of money and the power that comes with it. He is not afraid of it at all, in other words, he is over confident. This time, he does not go to the temple because he thinks he still got the guts and strength from before. His mom still immersed herself in the luxury and the pleasant life without paying any attention to what her son is going to do. The sun rises gently in the east, covering all the plantations with brightness. It was a great start to the day. When the fight begins, Raye does the exact same thing as last time. He goes straight toward the neck. Unfortunately, this time, he can not reach it. All of a sudden, flames are bursting in front of him. Within a few seconds, he turned into ashes and was blown away by the wind. The audience booed, and his mom is still enjoying the luxury life. No one actually cares what happened to Raye or who he is.
