The President said the Government will train the health promoters to handle minor ill- nesses at the community level. He said the Government will spend KSh3.5 billion to equip them to offer preventive healthcare. “Our hospitals are full of people with minor aliments, which if managed early will de- congest our hospitals,” he said. He spoke during Sunday service at Christ Church Cathe- dral in Kakamega County. The President said that the Government is committed to ensuring devolution is successful but will not borrow from foreign lenders to pay counties. The President said in- creasing food production will re- duce the cost of living. “We will progressively in- vest in agriculture and support our farmers because increasing food production is the solution to reducing the cost of food,” he said. The President said the agencies are helping to alleviate the suffering caused by the con- flict and their work should pro- ceed unimpeded. He was speaking when he met the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filip- po Grandi who briefed him on the humanitarian and refugee crisis in the Sudan. As chair of the IGAD Quartet Group of Countries, President Ruto said they were working to end to the crisis. The quartet brings together Ken- ya, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
