What got you into music? At a young age I always loved music. I was singing along with the radio, making my bed into astage as if I was playing a concert, and I was addicted to that feeling and comfort that musicgave me.You have toured with Cody Simpson and Jacob Whitesides just to name a few, How did you liktouring and what was your favorite city?Touring is absolutely the best part of being a musician and creating music. I love getting thechance to travel the world and meet new fans and friends. It's too difficult to choose just onecity that I love the most, but I enjoy Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Dublin, Italy and Portugal toname a few.Have you had any crazy fan moments while touring? When I was in Dublin and leaving the venue, the car I was being driven in got mobbed bypeople and it got a bit dented and scratched up. But it was worth it for the experience and thestory :)You started in a band and became a solo act. How did the band come about and what madeyou choose to venture off solo?My friends in the band wanted to go off to school and I wanted to stay and continue working onthe music. I wanted to keep writing songs and keep pursuing my passion. I knew that if I wantedto this that I would have to be my own person and sing and write from my own perspective. Itallowed me to be more honest and vulnerable which I think lends itself to making the bestmusic. What inspired \"Dance with the Devil\"?I was going through some difficult times in my life. I had just broken up with a girlfriend, andthere was some personal family stuff going on and I decided to just use the song as a way toremind myself that everything was going to be ok and that with time -- wounds would heal. The concept of the music video was amazing. How did you come up with that concept andwhat did you learn from making that video?I wanted to capture the full scope of a relationship. Jon Rua, star of the Broadway showHAMILTON is a good friend and I asked him to choreograph a piece that reflected the energy ofthe song. A big inspiration for the video itself was the first scene from the movie UP. I loved howwithout words, a whole story was told in a few minutes.Musicians on Call is charity you work with. Can you explain what you do with that charity?Musicians on Call is an incredible organization that brings live music into rooms of patientsbattling various illnesses. It is a grounding and humbling experience to be able to sing someonea song who is fighting some sort of medical issue. I just try to make them smile, and forget theirworries for a few minutes with a song or two.

You are kind of known for playing the sassy girl in your roles, like in “Bring ItOn: Fight To The Finish\". What is it about that type of character that you love?I honesty don’t know why those types of characters come so naturally for me…and I really can’t explain why I love playing them so much. All I know is that I getthis amazing rush from playing characters like that and I have so much fun doingit. It is probably because those characters are the complete opposite of who Ireally am.You have a background in many types of dance. Did you enjoy getting to usethose skills in “Center Stage: Turn It Up?”I love any time I get to dance or do anything active in the roles that I play. I can’twait to do more characters that fight and kick-ass like the character Gina DelamoI just played in Atomic Shark.I have this little obsession with martial arts and fightchoreography. I also just love playing characters that fight for what they wantand save the day against all odds. My life’s mission is to inspire people, andthese types of characters are the most inspirational people and stories you couldfind. You are very passionate about inspiring people to live a healthy and happy life- what motivates you to want to help others so much?I just care so much! There is way too much heartache, struggle and sadness outthere, and I want to create as much content as I possibly can to help people findthe power they have within themselves to transform all these extremechallenges into amazing ways to inspire and positively impact the world. Why did you decide to start the \"Unbreakable\" movement?Unbreakable was greatly inspired from my “Center Stage” story and is centredaround what I have learned along my journey of going after and achieving mydreams. I feel so blessed to get to live out my dreams, and I want to help otherslive theirs.Because of what I have gone through on my journey, I am passionate abouthelping other people discover and develop their inner and outer strength, celebrate their unique gifts and talents, and remain Unbreakable through life’schallenges. One of my favorite things is when I get letters and video messages from fans orpeople who have attended one of my workshops that say things like “because ofyour workshop, I finally have the confidence to go after my dream/love myself/have the strength not to listen to anyone telling me I can’t do the things I reallywant to do!” Contintue on the next page.
So, we loved you on \"Scream Queens”! How was it working on such an amazingshow? Would you ever do a scary movie?\"Scream Queens\" was such an amazing show to work on! \"Cold Moon”, thatcomes out really soon, is a suspense thriller and will definitely make you jump. Ihave a really hard time watching scary movies but they are really fun to make! What advice would you give to a young actor that wants to follow in yourfootsteps? You can do it! Every person that has done it was just like you once. The onlydifference between you and your favorite celebrity is that they went after theirdream so hard every single day and never let anyone stop them. You are alwaysmore beautiful, talented, capable, and strong than you think. Once you believeyou are something, you actually embody it. You can choose to believe whateveryou want to believe… why not choose thoughts that will empower towards yourgoals and dreams? Never let anyone tell you no and never let anyone, not evenyourself, hold you back. Be disruptive in your thoughts and in your life, createpositive change, and create a life you love. I honestly could talk about this kindof stuff all day long and that is exactly why I wrote my new ebook - so I couldinspire other young actors and artists to achieve their goals and dreamsregardless of the challenges that come along the way.
At what age did you realize singing was what you wanted todo with your life? I started singing in a camp at the age of 5but by the time I was 7, I was hooked on performing. Everyopportunity I got to be on stage, I took. I did everything fromschool musicals, to variety shows, Christmas shows, etc.How did your family find out about your talent? My motherwas always my biggest fan but it was my Moms friend Jackiethat told her that I was really talented. Then one day when wewere at Jackie's house she happened to be on the telephonewith Shaun Bless. Jackie handed me the phone and said\"Here, Mariel sing Adele's Rolling in the Deep to Bless.” Hequickly responded with “Get this girl the NYC as soon aspossible” and that is how it all began.. Bless than became myfirst producer. At the age of 9 you recorded your own anti-bullying song. Why is anti-bullying important to you? It’s important toremind others that they are not alone in what they are goingthrough and use my voice to spread the importance ofkindness to other kids and teenagers.Have you endured bullying? Yes — a few years ago I was inthe center of a cyber attack where these girls were having funon the weekend and I was not invited so they would attack mewith messages and pictures trying to make me jealous andreminding me that I was not included. Also, last school yearthis one girl made it her mission to pick on me and causeunnecessary conflict. She was constantly putting me down inorder to elevate herself. It was a awful experience. I wouldhate going to lunch and classes with her because I was scaredI would be insulted or put down. I really felt victimized.\"Stay strong and believe in yourself. Believe in thesaying “what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!!\"Let's talk about Madison Square Garden. You got to singthere at 10 years old. How does a 10 year old get thatopportunity?
