BUILDING HOMES PLEASE PARTNER WITH US AS WE HOPE TO BUILD ANOTHER A PERSONAL CHALLENGE In the spring of 2013 our team visited the backcountry of the Dominican Re- public. On our journey we walked into homes literally built with scraps of wood and metal. If I had pushed against the walls with some force, I am sure I could have pushed the shanty house down. Bathrooms were mere holes in the ground with no walls for privacy. We saw in some cases 4-5 children sleeping in one broken down twin bed. And yet, the people were happy. In that moment my heart was touched with compassion. I felt God prompt- ing me to tell these people we wanted to help build them a home. We came back to the US and raised the funds3 ALIVE OUTREACH MAGAZINE | www.aliveoutreach.com

Letting Go They say old habits die hard. I believe they do and for lots of reasons. One of the reasons is that people in general aren’t comfortable with change. And for those of us working to bring about change, we will find this is a hard fought battle. Another reason these old habits die hard is be- cause we tend to put faith in things that have worked for us in the past. But let’s face it, we live in a progressive changing world. New ap- proaches, developing thoughts, and expres- sions of creativity are happening all around us. And sometimes, if we don’t shift gears and keep pace, we find we are being left behind. Imagine the first car ever made refusing to change. Well that driver would be stuck in the slow lane traveling at turtle like speeds. only that, but traveling with no air conditioning, no GPS, no power, no auto locks, no keylessentry, no music in the car, no car phone, no four wheel drive, probably no seat belts, no airbags, and the list goes on and on. Assuredly on today’s highway such a car could not keeppace. Not only would it be left behind by the modern technology of today’s cars, but in it’scondition it would also be a danger to itself and other cars with the new way traffic flows. For the obvious reasons, the people who made the first car, as wonderful as it was then, re-alized it needed to change and develop to keep pace with a changing and developingworld. So, what am I saying to you? And what does all of this mean?Do you still have passion toward your dream? If so, don’t lose it. Don’t give up on it. How-ever, if you are driving an outdated car toward your dreams, it may be time to update it toa modern vehicle so you can reach your destination more expeditiously. Don’t be afraid ofa new approach. HAVING A BAD DAY? Today could be considered a very, very bad day for me. I spilled a whole cup of coffee on my white carpet. My 16 month old is grouchy and won’t nap be- cause she’s cutting teeth. I had to pick my daughter up from school because she’s sick. One of my best friends passed away from cancer. Yes. Today, could be considered a very, very bad day. However, I am God’s favorite. He picked me to make it through these trials. Ephesians 1:11 says, “All things are done according to God’s plan and decision; and God chose us to be his own people in union with Christ because of his own purpose, based on what he had decided from the very beginning.” What a blessing. In UNION with Christ? My God has chosen me? Nothing happens by mistake, and God wants us to find Him in every event—good, bad, or indifferent. In reality, my carpet needed to be cleaned anyway. I had some wonderful quality time nursing my daughter during her time of need. While mourning the loss of a wonderful mother, wife, teacher, and friend who spent the last two years living battling cancer knowing that Jesus was waiting for her when her time on earth was done. Nothing is better than knowing in your heart that someone you love has a place with the Heavenly Father. You too are God’s favorite. “He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.” John 10:3Don’t be afraidI have been told for years that the words“fear and fear not” were used 365 times inthe Bible! One use for every day of the year!It may actually not be used quite this manytimes, but the point is still real! God usedthe words “fear not” many many times be-cause He wanted us to trust in Him! Insteadof being afraid.Next time you are worried, or feeling anx-ious, stressed or afraid remember what Hesaid to us in His word. He said to Trust inHim with all of your heart and do not leanon your own understanding. Submit to Himand He will make your paths straight (He willtake care of things) Proverbs 3:5-6 It’s Hispromise to us. You can trust Him.9 ALIVE OUTREACH MAGAZINE | www.aliveoutreach.com

7 PRACTICAL STEPS TO YOUR DREAM Achieving God’s purpose for your life 1. Dream it—you must dream it before you see it. You must first see your dream in your heart, and en- vision it in your mind. It will never become a reality until it is first a reality on the inside of you, so real and alive that you can feel it, taste it, smell it, and touch it. 2. Pray Over it – Prayer bathes your dream in power. Doing the impossible is in God’s DNA. He makes the unreachable reachable. If you are wise you will en- list His power.3. Write it – You must write your dream down and put it somewhere where you will see it oftenand be reminded of it. This keeps the memory of your dream fresh in your mind. With thebusiness of the day to day and the many distractions that come with it, the dream can beeasily forgotten. With this in mind, write the vision down and prominently display it.4. Game Plan – Who builds a house without a blueprint? A good game plan is like a road-map with great directions to the desired destination.5. Build a Team – Build a teamthat can get you to your dream.Teamwork is essential. In fact, teamwork is the vehicle that takesyou to your destiny. Two are bet-ter than one. Even Jesus didn’twork alone. He had His team ofdisciples. Get people that fortifyyour weaknesses and people thatcompliment your strengths. It isabsolutely essential. You can’t af-ford weak links or chinks in your ar-mor.6. Execution – Now, you’re on stage, the lights are on, and its time to execute the game plan.Know this, that there will be some good moments and some rough moments, but if you staycommitted to the plan, and adapt as needed, eventual success will happen. The hand ofthe diligent shall rule.7. Don’t get discouraged – When you hit a bump in the road, stay committed and focused. You can overcome that obstacle and rise above the difficulty.Follow these pathways, and you will find that your dream can become a reality. Sometimes in life you will find that your gifts, talents, and abilities may not be quite enough for you to ac-complish your goals. Sometimes, lets just face it, we fall short. No one has been equipped with everything. And if it hasn’t happened yet, there will come a time when you need more than you have. Well God is theGod of more. In fact He is supernatural. He is super powerful His super loving. He is super kind. He is su-per compassionate. Bottom line God is super. The word super simple means more than. Superman was more than a man. But in fact and in all realityGod is the true defintion of super. He is more than. And anything you need He has. Tap into a super Godand realize the super ability you have to be great when you are a member of His team.Ever been sick? Well, of course you have. And when you are, something is inside of your body making youfeel not so comfortable. The thought of it makes me cringe. When those feelings take over we usually putmedicine in our bodies to make ourselves feel better. All of this happening inside of us. Not detected by thehuman eye. Well the work of the Spirit is no different. God does His work on the inside of us, if we let Him.The truth is something is at work on the inside of all of us. Either it is God working or we are living a life ac-cording to our own desires, and our desires are working. There is one thing that the Bible is very good at, and that is stating facts. And that fact that God states in Hisword is that if you let Him work on the inside of you, you will be blessed. Period. But there is another fact and that is, if we live according to our desires born not of the spririt of God, that willend up broken down and in very bad condition. We must let God’s power work in us if we desire optimal blessings

In my city sub zero temperature are not an uncommon occurrence. In those settings the wise man goesoutside wearing a coat and hat and gloves! The coat keeps him warm and provides some defense from theharsh cold and wind.Sometimes, in life things get harsh and bitter, just like the weather. In those times we need a covering.Something that can shelter us against the elements of life. That shelter is God; I suggest you let Him coveryou.God declares that if you are fruitful He will cut you back so that you have more fruit. So let’s think aboutthis for a second. When you are doing a good job, before the Lord and bearing fruit, and reaching lives thatqualifies you before God to get cut back. That goes His attention and He begins to prune you so that you canbecome even more fruitful. In our day and age, when God begins pruning us so many onlookers are so quick to say, “we must not beblessed anymore” And at times we begin to feel that too. But perhaps being pruned is evidence that you arebless and God is looking for more out of you. I’m convinced that the best parts of us are buried deep on theinside and the trials of life are what pushes us and causes out greatness to rise.Take a listen to the Olive
