1942 5 Wai Han was born in Shun Tak, China to UK Kwangtung, China. 1942

6 China to UK 1960 1

1960 Many years later, she met Frederick Douglas, from Birmingham. Who, at the time, was a chef in the British Army, stationed in British Hong Kong - a coloney and dependent territory of the British Empire from 1841 to 1997. They met in China where they grew very fond of eachother.

The couple then went from Guangzhou, the capital of Kwangtung, to Hong Kong where they moved in together and soon after, wed in Kowloon’s Registrar Office on 20th January 1962. Wai Han being only 19 years old and Frederick turning 21 just days before. New house form, 1962.

Later that year, Wai Han registered as a citizen of the United Kingdom, where they then moved in February 1962 to Oxford, England. And had a baby boy in the October.

tter’ 15 A ‘better’ life China to UK Arriving in the UK many people assumed Wai Han came over for ‘a better life’ asking her ‘How bad was it like over there?’ about her living situations and telling her ‘Wow, you’re so brave’, when in fact this wasn’t the case at all. A ‘better’ life

In reality, her family begged and wanted her to stay but she loved the new plans for her life and was excited to start a family, of course she visited China often, aswell as inviting her family to experience England.
