La Mamounia - Marrakech After three years and a € 100 Mio. revamp - Mamounia opened its gate back to the world in 2016 with breath- taking results and finesse for details. SKYLOUNGE looks into one of Morocco’s most iconic luxury hotels . For 90 years the illustrious and legendary La Mamounia has emphasized the great traditions of Moroccan hospitality and attracted royalty, connoisseurs and celebrities to relax in an atmosphere that combines history with enchantment and luxury. Today the hotel reflects a pure Moroccan style combined perfectly with contemporary art and antique pieces. Regarded as one of the most desirable in the world, La Mamounia hotel offers four restaurants, including two signature restaurants serving French contemporary and Italian cuisine under the direction of two 2 Michelin star chefs. Moroccan specialities can be savoured at Le Marocain located in a separate pavilion in the Park. The hotel also offers five bars, including the famous Churchill bar. www.mamounia.com

Walking into the La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morocco is like stepping back in time without giving up any modern day conveniences. This is a result of the care and passion that went into the recent renovation of the hotel. It is an oasis closely located to Marrakech’s historic medina and Djemaa el Fna Square. Although so much has been redone inside the hotel, the gardens still date back to the time of Sultan Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah (1757-1790). It’s easy to spend a day lounging by the pool, playing a game of tennis, and concluding with a spa treatment before dining at one of the hotel’s Michelin restaurants. In 2009 when the hotel reopened, the new 27,000 square foot spa was unveiled. The spa features two traditional and a private Moroccan hammams, eight treatment rooms, six outdoor massage areas, Jacuzzi, spa suite, indoor pool, beauty salon, and men’s barber station.... La Mamounia is a destination in itself. Listed in countless guidebooks as one of Marrakesh’s landmarks, the hotel is worth visiting even if you don’t have the keys to one of the rooms to marvel at the beautiful tiles, mosaics, intricate arabesque and arched columns. Taking its inspiration from traditional Berber and Arab-andulucian architecture, it’s a stunning, gorgeously-crafted marble art deco dream, which recently underwent revamp Each room has a balcony with views over its stunning 20 acre gardens or the Atlas mountains. There’s an indoor and outdoor pool if you need to cool off. Two of its restaurants have Michelin stars stars but its Le Moracian – its Moroccan restaurant – which has the best views. Winston Churchill was a fan and no doubt you will be too.

Impressions by Marisa Z. Ramirez There it is, in the middle of nowhere in Texas some twenty miles away from the next small town Marfa, the Prada installation. What else could one need here more than a pair of luxury shoes? I have stopped there myself whilst being one day on my way from East to West in “the lonely state” of Texas - It seemed to me first surreal. The scenery, wide open landscape, sunny day with a few clouds here and there and then this! After thinking for a while (or was it more contemplating?), it sort of reflects our society. We just can’t see the forest for the trees. The artists who put that up here must have known that there is “something rotten in Denmark “ to use Shakespeare (ironically here is the fact that one of the artists Michael Elmsgreen, who put that piece of art in 2005 together with his colleague Ingar Dragset is Danish), something is just not right… I leave it here and I have to say it has definitely an effect on anybody who passes by and that may have been enough for the artists to make their point. After all art is there to leave an impression.

Mauritius, land of rainbows, waterfalls and shooting stars, was first sighted by passing Arab dhows as early as the 10th century. The Portuguese visited around 1510, but it was the Dutch who took possession in 1598, giving the island its name in honour of their head of state, Prince Maurice of Nassau. The island was a port of call for ships en route to India and the East Indies, as well as a land base for pirates in the Indian Ocean. The Dutch introduced sugar cane which, in addition to tourism, remains a pillar of the Mauritian economy, yet they deemed their colonisation efforts unsuccessful, and abandoned the island in 1710. In 1715 the French took over, renaming it “Ile de France” and eventually importing labour from Africa to work on the sugar plantations. With this, a love for rhythmic music and dancing was introduced to Mauritius and the ‘sega’ was born, a performance that is still a national tradition. Nearly five centuries after its discovery, this jewel in the Indian Ocean has evolved into a harmonious mosaic of cultures and religions and is home to just over 1.2 million inhabitants.

Black River Gorges is Mauritius’ sole national park – a wild area of thick indigenous forest in the central highlands that’s home to over 300 plant species and rare bird life. Diving & snorkelling With beautiful reefs, coral-filled lagoons, caverns, tunnels and historic wrecks, the snorkelling and diving in Mauritius is excellent. The island is second only to the Maldives when it comes to Indian Ocean diving; it was even the proud recipient of the Indian Ocean's Leading Dive Destination for four years in a row at the World Travel Awards. A barrier reef encircles almost the entire 205-mile coastline of Mauritius and there are large lagoons that make the perfect spot for beginners. Water temperatures range from 23-25 degrees in the winter and 26-29 degrees in the summer. The summer is considered the best time to dive as the warmer sea temperatures attract a wider variety of marine life. There are around 100 dive sites to choose from which range in depth from 7 to 45 metres. On the clearest day, the visibility can reach up to 50 metres. Many of the resorts back a beautiful and sheltered lagoon meaning snorkelling is possible right from the shore. On the east coast, the lagoons are at their calmest during the summer months when the trade winds are at their weakest. On the more sheltered west and north coasts you can snorkel year round. If you’re not a strong swimmer, you can discover the underwater world on a glass-bottom boat trip. Many hotels have their own boats and will take you out for a small fee or even for free. Getting around While your resort may offer a wide range of activities, the beauty of this Indian Ocean island is that there’s plenty to see and do if you want to explore a little further. We recommend hiring a car and driver guide for either a half day, full day or even a couple of days. You can choose from a Standard, Luxury or Premium vehicle; have a chat with one of our Personal Travel Experts to find out more.

Fact sheet CBC Health Clinic Munich Redefines the Regenerative Health Experience for Stroke Victims In Europe, clinical and experimental teams are utilizing some of the methods and technologies being studied in U.S. clinical trials and combining them with CBC Health Clinic Munich’s experience with umbilical cord blood infusion treatments to provide therapeutic solutions for ischemic stroke survivors from around the world. This ischemic stroke treatment is available in our specially designed day-clinic in Munich, Germany. Combining Innovation with 20 Years of Cord Blood Banking Experience The research-based treatments use cord blood components provided by CBC Health Clinic Munich’s parent company, Cord Blood Center Group, which is known for providing therapeutic components with above-average quantities of nucleated cells. We have over 20 years of experience in cord blood banking and offer treatments utilizing allogeneic cord blood. Cord Blood Based Ischemic Stroke Recovery Treatment Cord blood infusion is not intended to be a replacement for standard therapy in the management of stroke; however, it is an additional therapeutic approach that may gain additional improvement of cognitive and motor functions. Intravenous infusion of umbilical blood cells is a therapeutic procedure used in patients recovering from stroke. Umbilical cord blood is collected from placenta via the umbilical cord vein. To achieve an optimum therapeutic effect, a dose of 50 million cells per kg is required, and each infusion includes cord blood collected from 4 to 8 donors. The entire course of infusions is scheduled over two to three days, and after each infusion, the patient is monitored for several hours for any potential adverse reactions. In the majority of patients, cord blood infusions have resulted in improvement of cognitive and motor functions. These functional gains become noticeable within the first few weeks after the infusion and continue for the next 3 to 6 months. Adverse reactions to cord blood cell infusions are rare and generally mild. The Treatment Effect Intravenous cord blood cell infusions enhance the regenerative activity of brain cells in stroke patients. Clinical studies suggest that cord blood therapy is more effective when administrated soon after stroke occurs. Patients begin to notice improvements within a few weeks after the infusion. The cord blood cells are eliminated from the patient’s body within 6 to 8 weeks; however, patients experience functional gains over the next 3 to 6 months, with sustained functional improvement. Achieved improvement is permanent; patients do not experience worsening of the achieved improvement. Another study suggests that repeated cord blood infusions might lead to further functional improvements. To summarize it: in i) gross and fine motor function, ii) cognitive function, iii) speech, iv) social behavior, v) frequency and intensity of seizures, etc. Follow up Once the treatment is completed, the doctor will monitor patient remotely by follow-up consultations for the duration of up to 12 months after the treatment. Duration of the treatment For grown-up adult patients we usually need 2 days of treatment for the IV administration of the allogeneic umbilical cord blood with 2 - 3 hours per day under direct physician supervision. After the individual and personal evaluation, premedication is applied IV, followed by the Umbilical Cord Blood infusion. A peripheral IV line is used to administer the allogeneic UCB, usually divided up into three to four units over a period of 2 - 3 hours under direct physician supervision. We use an intravenous route of administration for the UCB, as this is the safest and least invasive method. The patient’s vitals are closely monitored throughout the whole procedure. All in all, you can compare the procedure with a simple blood transfusion which is routinely performed in many clinics throughout the world. Patient has its own large room, lying in bed with relaxing atmosphere, able to watch TV, listen to music during the procedure.

Body Treatment

ENDOPEEL What is Endopeel? The revolution in non-surgical body-toning and face-lifting is here. If you dream of a fuller bum, more youthful knees, or a toned six-pack, then the Endopeel could be the treatment for you. The Endopeel is one of the most exciting and significant advances in anti-ageing and body sculpting. It is a non- surgical procedure that dramatically lifts virtually all areas of the body and face by repositioning soft tissues and increasing muscle mass. With Endopeel, you can literally say goodbye to common problems such as: ➢ bingo wings ➢ jowls ➢ saggy tummy ➢ man boobs ➢ jelly belly ➢ ageing neck ➢ saggy knees, and many more At Vie Aesthetics, we were delighted to be the first clinic to bring this treatment to the UK and you can now find it in all of our clinics. Owing to its success, it has been widely championed in the national press and has taken the celebrity world by storm. How does Endopeel work? The Endopeel is a unique technique that uses an oily patented “lifting” solution, which contains carbolic acid and peanut oil acid. When injected into an area of loose skin tissue and muscle laxity, this solution creates a selective, reversible, pointed “chemical myolysis”. To put that simply, your skin and muscles in that area are tightened, thus reversing the signs of ageing. With Endopeel, no fillers are injected, nor anything else that creates volume. Instead your body’s tissues, including muscles and skin, are reshaped and repositioned to where they once were during a more youthful period of your life. As a consequence, the results look 100% natural, too. Endopeel can be used for facial concerns and goals such as forehead lift, nose tip elevation, the jowls, lower chin, and the neck. It can also treat problem areas of the body, such as the gluteus area (bum lift), in the thighs, in saggy upper arms (bingo wings), the chest area and the tummy area.

Regenerative Treatment R egenerative treatments, also known as autologous treatments, use a patient’s own reparative abilities (i.e. through stem cells and tissue) to treat and reverse a wide number of concerns, from hair thinning to loss of volume caused by ageing. These types of procedures not only represent an exciting future for aesthetic medicine, they are also perfect for vegans and allergy sufferers given nothing alien enters the body. The risk of side-effects is also virtually nil. At Vie Aesthetics, we are proud to be pioneers of autologous treatments.
