Garden Party On Saturday 11th June, the CZU Garden Party took place on the CZU campus after a two-year covid break. The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences opened the doors of the Pavilion of Wood Sciences and High-Tech Pavilion to visitors, where guided tours took place. The Faculty was also part of a ‘‘trail for children’’ with a forest pedagogy stand. We were also present at the traditional market, where visitors could purchase wooden products from our workshop. Open Day and Forest Open Day at School Forest Enterprise (ŠLP) The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences took part in two events for the general public, which were organized by School Forest Enterprise (ŠLP) of CZU in Kostelec nad Černými lesy. The first event was an Open Day, where the ŠLP, its activities, and centres were presented to the public. FLD had a forest pedagogy stand there. There was also a demonstration of forest machinery, falconry, and much more. VědaFest (Science Festival) After a long time, the tenth year of VědaFest took place on 22nd June in person. In this unique event at Vítězné náměstí in Dejvice, scientific institutions from across the country came together again and, just as in previous years, showed that different ways of presenting science have their irreplaceable importance. The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences presented a stand with forest pedagogy and demonstrations of new procedures and methods that help foresters grow more stable and resilient forests. Graduation ceremonies On Friday 24th June, graduation ceremonies of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague took place in the CZU Graduation Hall. Our Faculty prepared a small present for each graduate. We congratulate all students on the successful completion of their studies and wish them great success in their pro- fessional lives. Tree planting during Matyáš Novak concert Our woodworkers in particular are familiar with the cooperation between our Faculty and MATRIX a.s. holding on projects in the field of wood processing and its surface treatments. On 10th July 2022, this cooperation expanded to the field of arboriculture. Our Faculty provided a dawn redwood seedling (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) for the newly established arboretum at Hotel Studánka, which belongs to MATRIX a.s. holding. The seedling was prepared by FLD Arboretum curator Ing. Václav Bažant, Ph.D. The CEO of MATRIX a.s. holding, Ing. Libor Burian, MBA and the Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Ing. Róbert Marušák, PhD. took part in the planting ceremony. We believe that this cooperation will develop successfully and the collections in the arboretums will be mutually enriched in the future. Is there anything that surprised you when you started working here? Nothing surprised me because it couldn‘t. As I already said, I joined the Prague Faculty as a student in 1991 and stayed there. So I am, to a certain extent, its inventory. The re-founding fathers (and mothers) of the Faculty did a huge amount of work for its establishment; however, I can say with pride that we, the students of that time, contributed at least a small part as well. It is then logical that some of the first graduates stayed at the Faculty and built an academic career. What are your hobbies?
