And everyone is going to use them wrong :( Everyone except, you. See, Messenger Bots aren’t an opportunity to push messages down people’s throats. It rather, gives us the ability to give someone a tailored experience based on exactly where they are. Since 2015, my other company, INFINITUS has made famous this method of being at the right time and place, called the SSF Method. Well, used properly in conjunction with Messenger Bots and you have a lethal combination. Yes, you can have a “bot” fairly quickly. USING FACEBOOK MESSENGER BOTS IS THE NEW “GAME” IN TOWN. For the past 15 years, email marketing has reigned as the dominant way to drive sales and attention to your leads and customers. I’m not saying that email is dead. However, Facebook Messenger Bots and Messaging is changing the game for marketers and online businesses. This guide gives 8 effective ways to use Facebook Messenger Bots that nearly anyone can quickly use to drive attention, relevancy and sales in their business. What is Facebook Messenger? Facebook is the most popular website on earth. With nearly 2 billion active users since its inception, a large part of its strategy has been messaging. About 3 years ago, Facebook saw a larger opportunity and turned its Facebook Messenger feature into a standalone product. This was a smart choice.
THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH? FACEBOOK IS RUNNING OUT OF AD SPACE. Later in 2017, Facebook is going to run out of Ad Space. However, Facebook’s Messenger product is nearly untapped for advertising, allowing for a huge increase of inventory. Part of its product is allowing it to effectively be used as a business messaging tool. At the time of writing (March 2017), not only is the Messaging software effective for business, but it’s driving massive sales. In our own business, our average open rate is 82% with an average 30% click through rate. Let’s compare that to our email marketing with an average of 19% and 5% click through rate and you can see why it’s so effective.
SO, WHAT'S A BOT? Now, let’s call a spade a spade. You likely don’t really need a “bot”, what you’re really wanting is called a “sequence”. It performs like a bot, sort of like this: A sequence isn’t exactly “smart”, think of it like an advanced “quiz” that allows us to properly know who someone is, what they want, and then deliver that experience. No, your bot isn’t going to respond to random questions or queries. No it’s not going to be super advanced. And I’ll be honest… It probably doesn’t need to. The job of a messenger bot? To start a conversation that allows us to know who we are talking to and then deliver a relevant experience. Here’s what it looks like. (Click to see an example)
SO, HOW DO YOU DO THIS? Well, you can develop your own custom bots for your business. Chances are you don’t need that. There are also lots of tools out there. Personally, after using many of them I’ve found ManyChat.com - it’s inexpensive, it’s quick and I’ll be honest… it makes wanting to build a bot seem a little foolish, unless you REALLY want to get fancy (and fancy doesn’t make money, always). I won’t go into the “training” of ManyChat.com, you can likely figure that piece out. However, what I will get into is very simply how to use this messaging service to generate conversations, relationships and ultimately sales. Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with ManyChat.com at the moment. I’ve also been using Messaging bots for less than 1 month in writing of this guide. 1.) DRIVE LEAD \"CONVERSATIONS\" People hate giving their email addresses for anything, however, at the moment, they are fine giving access to their messenger, largely as it’s so easy to unsubscribe and it’s a slight pattern interrupt. In our testing of 4 different campaigns, on average we were able to generate leads for an average of $1.73 for 2 different guides with a conversion rate of 92% - that’s up from 40% using a traditional landing page. So, how does it work? Well, much like a regular lead generation ad on Facebook, you would run an ad, however, when someone clicks, it brings them to Facebook Messenger and then you deliver the ad directly inside of Messenger. At the moment, it’s “difficult” to track conversions outside of doing it manually, however, with such a high conversion rate, it seems to work quite well. At my other company, INFINITUS, in our SSF Method, we would recommend that the “best” for the Messenger bot is the “Sidewalk” with a specific nurture sequence to help people to get to know you better. However, this isn’t a rule and there is no reason you can’t target those in the “Slow Lane” or “Fast Lane.” Based on our experience, engaging people that aren’t on our email lists, but have visited our website or engaged with our pages and videos were the most effective leads with costs of below $1 in a very competitive niche (internet marketing). The beautiful point of this? Once you get the lead, you can learn a LOT about your lead by asking them a few simple questions and you can also distribute content easily.
2.) CONTENT DISTRIBUTION Once you have a lead, you can run them through a specific “sequence” or you can also send “broadcasts” to them. This allows for an amazing ability to deliver content to them that can start further conversations. In one example, we delivered a Facebook Video Guide to our current subscribers, over 60% said they wanted it and from that 1 single piece of content it started dozens of conversations which lead to sales of our LeadCraft program, simply because not only was it relevant and permission-based, but it intrigued the person. There wasn’t huge “email sequence” involved, no need for a landing page, none of the typical “setup” for a lead magnet… simply delivering the value to those who wanted it at the right place and time in the relationship.
3.) SALES \"CONVERSATIONS\" What you must realize is that every conversation is a sales conversation. Yet - we can’t think of it that way. In every interaction we have with someone inside of messenger, it’s important that you understand that you and your product and/or services are becoming more and more relevant to them. You are creating an experience in which someone is starting to feel connected to you and/or your brand. This powerful effect is something that, when done properly, can make you stand out in an incredible fashion. See, there are two ways to start these sale conversations: a). Passive Passive conversations are the easiest and it typically comes from segmenting your leads and leading someone down the path of understanding that they have a problem and a “gap” in what they are currently doing. This is permission-based selling at it’s finest and can be added to any type of sequence or automation when using messenger bots. It’s the simple… “Do you need help with that?” “Okay, what type of help?” And boom, you’ve started the conversation.
b). Direct The more direct way, which will always cost more and will always result in more backs raised, is the direct-marketing method. This is just simply coming out and saying… “Do you have this problem” It doesn’t lead with a ton of valuable content. It’s like asking a girl for her number within 30 seconds of seeing her. I’m not a fan of this direct-method of selling. I don’t believe it works as well in this platform. Why? Someone doesn’t open their Facebook Messenger expecting to buy something. However, this doesn’t mean it won’t work.
4.) SEGMENT YOUR BUCKETS The cool part about all of this? Every sequence and automation that you run for those that are “subscribed” to you can easily be segmented. For example, I know that over 400 people on our list want notifications on webinars, 34% of our list said they have revenue above $250k, 41% said they have less than $125k in revenue. I also know that 62% of people are tinkering with their online marketing… my ideal customer. Just like me, you can start collecting these pieces of information, allowing you to be ultra-relevant. This allows you to create an experience instead of just mass-sending an email and the great part? It just feels “natural”. Human beings want to be asked. They want experiences that feel “right” to them and when you can create this moment, it’s magical for them.
5.) LIVE STREAM STACKING If you’re not using Live Streaming as part of your Facebook Video Strategy, it’s just plain dumb. Well, part of having a Live Stream is having as many people “live” as possible. This allows you to do what we call “social stack” the live stream. Giving it comments, shares, reach and relevancy that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. Well, what’s the best way to get people there? Tell them. That’s the problem with live streams at the moment, we have to rely on Facebook to tell people that we are live. Well, let’s take back control. By using a specific “tag” inside of ManyChat we are able to get people to subscribe to our Live Notifications. Obviously, these are the most engaged people, however, it allows us to send a notification to hundreds (soon thousands) of people a few hours before a live stream. In our testing, we were able to increase the number of live viewers of our live stream within the 3rd stream of doing this by 1400%. While we don’t have stats on the decrease of cost for promoting our live streams afterwards, we did see a huge uptick in the amount of the video watched when promoting when it had more comments, shares and likes, appealing to the social stacking effect.
6.) VALIDATE It doesn’t matter the size of your company or business, you need to validate everything. Before I put together a new training, a new product, a new piece of content, I want to validate that someone will want it. There’s no better way to do it than this platform. I had a new live stream that I was going to do on how I generated over $160,000 with one article on Entrepreneur.com leveraging Facebook Advertising. I did a quick “broadcast” sequence asking those who are subscribed to me on Facebook. 89% of those who replied said they wanted it and over 60% of subscribers responded. The other beautiful bit? Now, they’ve micro-committed that they’ll show up to the Live Stream. The more you validate and ask, the better you can serve your audience and you’ll be able to generate more sales.
7.) SOCIAL PROOF STACKING Remember how we social “stacked” our live streams? Well, when it comes to Facebook Advertising, we want to do the same thing. Whenever we do any type of promotion on Facebook, we “stack” the likes, comments and shares. Not only does it increase our relevancy score, it also decreases our advertising costs. The CTR increases by 200-500% of that specific ad. So, if you have a new lead magnet, a new post, or a new video… what’s the best way to socially stack it? Send it to those that are on your Messenger List… instantly you can get HUNDREDS of likes, clicks and engagement that goes through the roof. It will give you traction, share your content and decrease your advertising costs… giving you more leads and more sales… for less money. Smart, right?
8.) ENGAGEMENT & ATTENTION Those who own attention are paid. Those who engage more often are paid even more. In our society, there is a lot of noise. You have a signal, a message to be heard by everyone. By generating leads, having conversations, being in front of your audience. By engaging them and allowing them to feel heard. By being relevant to those people, you are “owning” the attention in your space. See, there are 4 different types of things you must do in your business. a). Build an Audience b). Build Awareness c). Generate Leads d). Generate Sales Facebook Messenger allows you to do all 4 of these all in the same platform, seamlessly, for free, allowing you to scale your relevancy and intimacy to a higher ability than ever before.
