As it was in the days of Noah Over the course of time, mankind’s population increased and spread across the earth. The daughters that were born to them came to the notice of the sons of God, who saw that they were fair; and they took wives of all those they chose. The Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, because he is also flesh: therefore his lifespan shall be a hundred and twenty years.1 There were giants in the earth in those days; and afterwards, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they had children, who grew up to become the famous mighty men of old. God saw that the wickedness of man was throughout the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was continually evil. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was grieved. So the Lord said, I will destroy mankind who I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and creeping things, and the fowls of the air; for I regret having made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. This is the genealogy of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and he walked with God. Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The earth was corrupt in God’s eyes, and was full of violence. God looked on the earth, and seeing it was corrupt; (for all flesh had corrupted its life on the earth). He said to Noah, The end of all flesh is apparent to me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them, therefore I will destroy them with the earth. Genesis 6:1-13 This is a bleak picture of society as it existed just over 5000 years ago. What sort of society was it? It was according to the writer of Genesis large, technically advanced, corrupt and violent. Let’s unpick this. 1. There was a population explosion. In the 1650 or so years since Creation, mankind had populated the entire globe. We don’t know what the population was, but it is worth bearing in mind that estimates of the global population in 1800 vary from 800 million to 1.1 billion, and this was the start of the industrial revolution. In just 200 years it has increased 7-8 times to its present level, and that in spite of 3 world wars, major famines and pestilence on a hitherto unimagined scale resulting in death in the hundreds of millions! This pre flood population was geographically2 and culturally homogenous, and integrated, with one language3. People lived for hundreds of years. Imagine the effect of that longevity on exponential population growth. We count our lifetimes as around 2-3 generations, but pre flood, it would have been reckoned in around 30 generations! 2. Science and Technology was advanced. 1 By limiting life spans to 120 years instead of 800-900+, God thereby limited mans ability for cumulative sin, i.e. sin that benefited exponentially from the experience derived from longevity. Genetically this may have resulted from the genetic bottleneck of 4 related breeding couples, and environmentally from the changed biosphere post flood, obvious examples of which are the ice age, and the desertification of the Sahara. 2 The separation of the continents from a single landmass resulted from the tectonic upheavals of the flood. What about Continental Drift? Dr Don Batten and Dr Tas Walker. CMI 3 See Genesis Ch11

It would be highly unusual for this not to be a technically advanced society. With such longevity, accumulated wisdom and experience would have been exponential, assisted by a common language. There is also evidence that these pre flood humans were more robust and intelligent that we are.4 We have transformed our lives, and our world in 200 years of industrialisation, - imagine what these people could have achieved in 1650 years! Then there are the Nephalim. This Hebrew word means “fallen ones” and the KJV translates it here as “giants”. They were the result of illicit inter breeding between fallen angels and human women. They were not only physically giants, but also giants in every other way, “mighty men of renown.” Nimrod was one of these nephalim, and is mentioned in Genesis 10, as the 4th generation from Noah. None of Noah’s 3 sons were nephalim, nor their wives, so it would seem safe to assume that the genetic information that had been introduced into the population that resulted in these giants lay dormant in the genes Ham’s wife at least. This trait has persisted through history, (King OG of Bashan around 14 feet tall, Goliath the Philistine, around 10 feet tall, the Anakim tribe in Canaan, and the red haired giant tribe of Nevada5, up to 9 feet tall, and even to this day, giants up to 8 feet tall are recorded. These giants in the past were extraordinarily large and strong, and demonically clever. As time passed however, the genetic information like everything else was subject to entropy, and the trait has fortunately become diluted and rarer and less robust. Nimrod lived after the flood, but even so was responsible for the tower of Babel, and established several cities including mighty Nineveh. Was God concerned that they were building a skyscraper, or was something more sinister and dangerous going on? The text in Genesis 11 suggests that God is more concerned about what could possibly have been achieved than just a tall building. We will never know what it was, but my guess is it had something to do with demonic science, which God had to put a stop to. Plenty of skyscrapers around today, and God doesn’t go around zapping them! It is worth noting that in recent years biological science has started to transgress God’s laws and venture into the realm of the demonic, with cloning, 3 parent babies, genetically manipulated “designer” babies and animal / human hybrids. (A closer look at ancient Greek and Babylonian mythology would suggest this last procedure has been done before)6 Could this be what is meant by the phrase “for all flesh had corrupted its life on the earth” prior to the flood? 3. There was a lot of violence and wickedness. The text says that the earth was FULL of violence, and mankind was CONTINUALLY thinking about evil! Everything was corrupt. Today western society has abandoned Christianity for the wicked desires of their own hearts. The earth is depleted and polluted. Much of God’s creation is now extinct and that process is continuing at an increasing pace. Sex has been perverted to an extent not seen in the past. God created male and female, but man is in the process of doing away with that, and turning to all sorts of perversions of gender identity, and pornography is rampant. Middle East societies are embracing intolerant versions of their religions, thereby justifying increasing violence as a solution to their perverted perceptions of justice, including terrorism to perpetrate mass murder all over the world. Ethnic violence and intolerance is also endemic all over the world and religiously motivated persecution and intolerance is out of control in many parts of the world. Drug use is destroying millions and undermining law and order. Families are 4 The Pre-Flood Atmosphere. under attack, and the model established by God is being destroyed. Children are being abused, exposed to pornography and taught ungodly perversions. Economic and sexual slavery is on the increase. Suicide is endemic, as people descend into hopelessness and despair. Civil wars are destroying nations and killing hundreds of thousands. Recent world wars have killed scores of millions, godless ideologies millions more. Scores of millions of babies are murdered in the womb all over the world. Paganism and devil worship is on the rise, godlessness is on the rise. And over all of this hangs the threat of nuclear annihilation! AS IT WAS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH, SO SHALL IT BE ALSO IN THE DAYS OF THE SON OF MAN. But as were the days of Noah, so also shall the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they were ignorant until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matthew 24:37-39 By faith Noah, being warned by God of things not yet seen, moved with fear, prepared an ark to save his house; by doing this he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Hebrews 11:7 By whom he also went and preached to the spirits in prison; Who previously were once disobedient, when God was longsuffering in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which only a few, that is eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:19-20 God did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 2 Peter 2:5 This verse is a vital clue to understanding the timing of the second coming of Jesus to judge the nations. Noah is described as a preacher of righteousness. We don’t know when he started preaching about the coming judgement of God, but the commencement of the building of the Ark must have been the start at the latest. (He could have been preaching as long as 120 years prior to the flood according to one interpretation of Genesis 6:3). It is estimated that it might have taken 55 to 75 years to build the Ark7, so he would have been preaching for at least that long. Matt 24:39 says that the flood took them by surprise, as they were ignorant of it until it arrived. How could that be, if Noah was warning them all the time he was building the Ark? The only plausible answer is that they were not listening, they did not bother to even consider what he was saying, or why he was building a big boat! The only people to listen to Noah were his family. After at least a half century of preaching, he had zero converts! As it was in the days of Noah…. The last days will be significant for a number of reasons, but the outstanding thing I think will be a complete and comprehensive lack of interest in the Gospel. People will cease going to church to hear the Gospel preached, and preachers will be excluded from the public sphere and media. We can see this happening already, and it is set to get worse as we draw nearer to the end of the age. Apart from the children of the faithful, a whole generation will grow up ignorant of the Gospel and of Jesus of Nazareth! Knowing this first, that scoffers shall come in the last days, walking after their 7 https://answersingenesis.org/bible-timeline/how-long-did-it-take-for-noah-to-build-the-ark/

own desires saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation8. For they are willingly ignorant of this, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water9: And so the world as it was then, was flooded with water, and perished, but the heavens and the earth, as they are now10, are preserved by the same word, reserved for fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Peter 3:3-7 These are the New Testament verses about the days of Noah and the second coming of Jesus in judgement on this world. Can there be any doubt amongst the faithful remnant of God that we are living in the last days? The parallels with Noah’s time are staggering! We have an ark, He is Jesus the Lord. We will be saved if we remain in Him through these tumultuous times. We will like Noah become heirs of righteousness by faith. We must like him persevere in declaring what is right before this wicked generation, and save those who will believe from the soon coming Judgement. 8 Could this be referring to Uniformitarianism, the bedrock of evolutionary theory? 9 Genesis 1:9-10 10 This clearly indicates that there was a fundamental difference between the pre flood earth and the post flood earth. The difference deals with the claim that the waters could not have covered the entire land surface, because the land surface was very different to what we see today.
