Queridos lectores: ¡Abbey! Idiomas en la Garena nació no solo como una academia tradicional de idio- mas, sino como un espacio formativo y de interacción multidisciplinar en el que buscamos integrar nuestros cursos de lenguas extranjeras, diversas actividades y proyectos educativos que provean de una formación integral a nuestros alumnos. Para este primer número, nuestros alumnos de las categorías adolescentes han redactado diversos artículos sobre temas que les divierten e interesan. Así mismo, aprovechamos este espacio de lectura para presentaros todas las mejoras e innova- ciones que hemos implantado en nuestra programación con el inicio del año: Examenes oficiales TOEIC/TOEFL. Esta titulación, que representa la acreditación de nivel en lengua inglesa más reconocida a nivel mundial, es un requisito imprescin- dible a la hora de obtener un puesto en miles de empresas en todo el mundo. Así mismo, es la titulación que exigen la mayoría de universidades y centros educati- vos americanos, y de diversos países, para acceder a sus estudios de grado y post- grado. ALUMNOS HANDBALL Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two pe- riods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of 40 by 20 metres (131 by 66 ft), with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a 6-meter (20 ft) zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while “diving” into it. The sport is usually pla- yed indoors, but outdoor variants exist in the forms of field handball and Czech handball (which were more common in the past) and beach handball. We training every week Monday, Tuesday and Friday in the Pabellon Demetrio Lozanoin the Val,every day training one hour and a half,more fiveteen minutes for fisic. It has got loto f shops like: CyA, Lefties, HYM, Décimas… My favourite shops are: Bershka, Pull and Bear, Pri- mark I buy in shops that have got clothes for teenagers. The video games are games that you can play on a PlayStation, on a mobile, on a compu- ter, tablet, X-box… The video games is a very easy way to have fun and a los of people play video games. It is easy most of the time. If you play, for example, a shooting game, you can play well all the shoot games so that means the first time you play a game it is very difficult but when you play more you find it easier to play. I´m going to say the games I recommend and I play. For the mobile phone I recommend a game called “Brawl Starts” It is a multiplayer game un teams of three. For de computer and PlayStation I recommend a game called “Ark” which is an evolution game like Minecraft but with dinosaurs. MOVIES AND SERIES Hi, I’m Nerea and I’m going to take a piece of this magazine to talk about my favorite hobby: watching movies or series. Obviously not everyone can watch movies every day since they last between an hour and three hours and a half the normaly films. But ... that’s what the series are for, the series can last between twenty minutes and an hour and a half. Movies can be classified by: Duration._ From the shortest film ever seen “The man” duration 10 s ’to the longest“ logistics ”duration 888 hours (37 days) And place._ You can see them in your house sitting on the sofa without having to move anywhere being able to stop the movie revoking or overtaking and if you are one of those who eats when entertaining… you can buy popcorn, sweets at the supermarket , drink that are cheaper. On the other hand in the cinema you have better vision since you have a much larger screen. Surely the movie has better definition apart the cinema also has speakers with higher quality. And that’s not all, although the popcorn in the store is cheaper, the movies are better because they are artisans. The movies are very good but the series too!!! There are several types of series. The chapters are not intertwined. Each chapter tells a little story that ends in that same. Those that tell you a story in several chapters. These tend to have a lot of intrigue and the story does not end until the end and can last chapters and even seasons. Then they are also classified by how long they last. The longest “guiding light” with 73 seasons and over 18,000 chapters, the shortest “bodyguard” with a season and 6 chapters (5 hours.) Nerea B1 FOOTBALL In la Garena the Saturday 21st my team and me we played a friendly match and we won 9-1, the 19th of October starts the league for us. The league it has an app for mobile called Matchapp and every Monday puts the re- sults of the last match, it is very cool! A2 Marc 5

DANCE Some people consider dance a sport; It depends on the type of dance is considered a sport for example, Zumba is a sport but Jazz and moden Jazz diferent than other dances is not considered a sport. Modern Jazz it´s based on Jazz although it has modern dance techniques and ballet, mu- sic also changes, is used pop. Depend of the miusic the choreography is different;it’s similar tan the theater but dancing and not talking;you dance like what the song tells you; That is why it is difficult to create a creogrphy, although it has to do with the song. UNHEALTHY HABITS AMONG TEENAGERS Most of teenagers have unhealthy habits and, as a result, they get bad health an overweight. Teenagers don’t like to be told what to do or what to eat, but they should listen to the doctor or grown ups advise. When teenagers are with their friends in school, they usually snack donuts, ham- burgers, soft drinks and so on… That food is called junk food. Junk food is the food and drinks that are low in nutrients and with saturated fats and sugar added. Eating to much junk food is linked to serious health problems. 2,6 million of people die early because of overweight problems and the 65% of the population life in countries where the overweight is a big and lethal problem. Another problem among teenagers is their sedentary lifestyle. Many of them don’t usua- lly practice any sport, their prefer watching TV, playing videogames or surfing the social network. The risks of an inactive lifestyle are obesity, high cholesterol, little energy or even addiction or uncommunication. Many of teenagers need psychological treatments to solve this kind of problems. In my opinion, the school should encourage the students to have a balance diet and to practice sports often. I think a good school not only teaches maths or science, but good and healthy habits. Moreover, I think teenagers should receive scholarships to practice team play because it is good for teenager’s health, mind and relationships. Carla Sabio B2 HORSE RIDING Horse riding is very interesting. But it is not easy. You need a helmet, boot, riding pants and sometimes gloves. There are different types, like dressage or show jumping. I do horse riding in an equestrian centre. However, you can do it in your stable too (If you have one). You can go to ride anywhere if it is not prohibited. Your horse needs equipment. A saddle, reins and a saddle blanket. Or you can ride without any equipment. Claudia Mancilla B1 7

Netflix is a popular application on TVs, phones, tablets… In this application there are lots of films. I think the most popular films are Harry Potter, and for the Young people the ``My first Kiss´´.The more famous series are the ``Stranger Things´´, ``La Casa de Papel´´, ``The Umbrella Academy´´… This application has got lots of downloads. Elena Vicente B1 + SOCCER I’m going to talk about soccer because it’s my favourite sport and because it’s the most popular sport among my classmates. Soccer is a sport that is played in all over the world and the teams are all very competitive. There are a lot of categories and in each category, there is a number of players: from 5 to 10 years old, you play with seven players and from 10 on, you play with eleven players. Each country plays in a different league, but the players of all countries can belong to whatever team or league. In the Spanish league, my favourite team is Real Madrid, that wear white shirts, but in the French league my favourite team is Paris Saint Germain, that usually wears blue shirts. There are a lot of players in the world, and everybody says that Messi is the best of the world although I think that Cristiano Ronaldo is better. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and I want to continue playing this sport the rest of my life. Currently I belong to a team that won the league last year, we had to train very early in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays. Although it was very hard, I enjoyed a lot. In my opinion, playing soccer or any sport is healthy because you exercise your muscles and it makes you feel good, moreover you make lots of good friends. Javier Sabio B1 + 8

CONÓCENOS NUESTRA METODOLOGÍA La metodología a la hora de impartir nuestras clases es clara: profe- sores nativos y grupos reducidos con un máximo de 8 alumnos. Las clases son dinámicas y trabajamos las 5 competencias básicas para aprender cualquier idioma: escuchar, hablar, leer, escribir y gramática. Se imparten teniendo en cuenta los ritmos donde se intercalan ac- tividades dinámicas con otras más relajadas. Asimismo siempre se completa el aprendizaje con el método ppp (presentar, practicar, producir). MÉTODO 2+1 Los alumnos que tengan dos horas de clases a la semana se les regalará una hora adicio- nal los viernes para impartir clases diferentes, por ejemplo, los niños pueden elegir la opción de hacer clases de Tecnología (en español), prepararse para el examen oficial PET o clases de refuerzo para aquellos que tengan más problemas a la hora de aprobar en el colegio. En cuanto a los adultos, podrán optar a realizar clases prácticas reales, donde aprendan a desenvolverse en situaciones de la vida real (por ejemplo, aprender a reservar una habitación de hotel). 9

METODOLOGÍA BEBÉS Nuestra metodología para bebés es exclusiva de nuestra escuela y tiene una base científica (Patricia Kuhl de la Universidad de Washington) sobre la genialidad lingüística de los bebés. Nuestra metodología para los cursos de inglés para bebés combina activi- dades pedagógicamente pensadas para la estimulación de la lengua básica: recepción auditiva, expresión oral, identificación de objetos, interacción con el entorno y ejercicios multisensoriales que ayuden con la patología del habla inglesa. Sobre todo nos basamos en el método de Patricia Khul, experta en el aprendizaje de idiomas para bebés de la Universidad de Washington. Defiende que la geniali- dad lingüística de los bebés se potencia a través de la voz humana, y que estos niños son como una “esponja” hasta los 7 años en lo que aprendizaje nos referimos. Trabajamos con profesorado exclusivamente nativo y experto para garantizar el aprendizaje correcto del idioma. Lo hacemos de una forma muy divertida, con educación respetuosa, natural, sin tecnolo- gía y respetando los ritmos de aprendizaje de cada bebe. Involucramos a los padres en todas las actividades para así dar continuidad al aprendizaje. 10

Hi, I´m Robert. I have been teaching and preparing students for exams in Madrid since 2017. I grow up in a small town in Cork which is in the south west of Ireland. I currently live in Madrid with my partner who has a P.hD in women and children’s rights and protection. In my free time I enjoy Travelling, hiking, reading, going to the cinema, doing DIY and spending time with friends in the beautiful sunny weather in Madrid. Education and Professional Background.
