So, for the first 6 months, she was both a salon owner as well as an assistant and a longshorewoman. With the ability to turn a challenging situation into a positive one, Silvanna continued to be a “fly on the salon wall.” She learned how to do payroll and how to manage her books while working with the owner of Thomas Edwards. A previous job at Burke Williams taught her the value of customer service and how to create a memorable experience for clients. As a 24-year-old business owner, Silvanna had to earn the trust and respect of her staff. Through sacrifices, hard work and a heart for her staff and clients, Silvanna built a positive salon culture of team work and support for one another. Now, six years later, Studio Fifty Fifty is a thriving business with an incredible salon team. Silvanna works towards the goal for her salon to be the “Nordstrom of Hair,” and for her staff to be “happy, healthy and wealthy.” Her best advice to the salon professional is to “be where your hands are.” She encourages stylists to think about the person in their chair and how important this service may be to them. Silvanna has much to celebrate, but she has never forgotten the wisdom from her father: “Don’t forget where you came from.” Her father passed away from lung cancer about a year after the salon was built. Now, the salon represents the legacy that he has helped to create for Silvanna.
