Goudy Old Style. Goudy Old Style font was created in Chicago in 1915 by Frederic Goudy. Goudy was one of the most well known type designers and has created 123 other types of fonts. In 1903, he was commissioned by the American Type Foundry, ATF, to create a type. Released in 1915, Goudy Old Style quickly became one of the best selling fonts for the ATF. Goudy Old Style has abbreviated descenders, ie the lowering of the g’s, q’s and y’s, which help make the font ideal for commercial printers. The less space used made printing cheaper and more economical which helped the font become a staple for adverts and ad’s even moving through to the 80’s. This type was notably used in Apple ad’s in the 1980’s. Goudy Old Style is considered to be a very well balanced font, with some flair. A few of these flairs are, the curved “ears” on the g, the diamond shape as the dot in the i, j, period, semi-co- lon and exclamation point. The font can be used in Goudy Oldstyle, Goudy Bold, Goudy Light, Grecian Old Style. Whichever way you choose to use this font, it will continue to be a graceful classic. Think different.
