What is ? Niagara Health is committed to developing YOU, our Leaders! Extraordinary U, Niagara Health’s Leadership Institute, will equip our leaders with learning opportunities designed to foster personal development and operational excellence. The learning opportunities are rooted in Niagara Health’s Leadership Competency Model and will be led by Niagara Health leaders, guest faculty partners, and consultants from higher education institutions and other industry leaders. Foundations of Management: Developmental This program helps refine developmental skills of our leaders, Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs and Heads of Service. While many have operational expertise, this program targets enhancing interpersonal behaviours and skills. Deploying a blended learning approach, participants have the opportunity to select the topics they feel are best suited for their individual developmental needs. Managers, supervisors, and team leads have a special role in any organization. The TWM leaders course gives participants the practical knowledge they need to:  Support organizational wellness initiatives by providing awareness and reducing stigma around mental health in the workplace.  Identify signs and indicators of poor mental health and how to action support to improve resilience  Offer coping skills and strategies in managing stress and poor mental health  Explore tools and resources to support employees’ mental health and well-being and how to encourage employees to seek help for mental health problems.  Creating a safe supportive work environment to ensure the workplace respects and involves all employees, including those with mental health problems Facilitators: Cara Kirkham and Michelle Ross

Health Systems Thinking and Transformation REGISTER January 17, 2023 1:00PM-4:30PM Location: SCS Auditorium Change and uncertainty continue to be rapidly increasing, pervasive, complex and occur on a larger scale than ever before. Emerging leadership megatrends that have been expedited by the pandemic call for an increased emphasis on systems thinking. Systems thinking encourages leaders to explore issues related to understanding and leveraging the complex human and structural factors associated with change and transformation. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided us an opportunity to imagine and implement a new way of being, and working together. This promise of transformation brings hope and can revitalize health care workers by increasing individual contribution to creating a better future and providing us the ability to adapt to and manage the ever-increasing complexity, change, ambiguity and flux. The Coaching Leader REGISTER Day 1: February 16, 2023 1:00PM-3:00PM Location: SCS Auditorium Day 2: February 23, 2023 12:30PM-4:30PM Location: SCS Auditorium 30 Day Follow-up: March 23, 2023 1:00PM-3:00PM (Virtual) 60 Day Follow-up: April 13, 2023 1:00-3:00PM (Virtual) This program is designed to recognize the role coaching plays in a high-performance culture. The Coaching Leader leverages the SAGE™ coaching model to develop and engage employees in improving performance, building commitment and delivering upon the strategic plan. When leaders establish a coaching relationship with their reports, not only are they encouraging talent development but they create a safe space for staff to feel supported. The Coaching Leader is an interactive workshop introducing designed to help leaders:  Identify the role of coaching in creating a high-performance culture  Utilize the SAGE™ model to develop individual contributors, intact and cross-functional teams, high potential employees, and to address midrange and lower performance situations  Practice effective coaching techniques to promote performance excellence, delegation and accountability  Identify opportunities to apply the SAGE™ coaching model to engage employees in delivering upon the strategic plan  Inspire the desire to promote developmental opportunities of diverse individuals Facilitator: Rashmi Biswas, Lake and Associates

Foundations of Management: Essentials (4 days over a 12 month period for New Leaders) This program helps leaders improve their management skills by focusing on developing both interpersonal and operational competencies. The intent is to have each new leader complete a personal assessment using the Hogan Assessment Tool, followed by a series of essential modules, establishing a foundational base line for Operational Knowledge and interpersonal behaviours and skills. Complete the Hogan Assessment ( 2 hours) OD representative will schedule The leader will complete the assessment and review the report during a debrief with a certified analyst. The Hogan Assessment measures personality characteristics, risks, core value drivers, cognitive style, and decision making ability. Participants will be contacted directly to launch the assessment phase. The Role of the Manager (2 hours) REGISTER Date: October 11, 2022 12:45PM-12:45PM Location: WS Boardroom This course is designed to help leaders unpack the role of the manager at NH. Learners will examine:  Examining the 4 primary roles of managers: 1-Managing People 2- Accountabilities ( self and others) 3- Ambassador of the Organization 4- Make Decisions  Exploring team dynamics  Examine NH culture and strategy  Examine the NH approach to fostering employee engagement  Embedding what was learned from the Hogan Assessment Facilitator: Emile Penner-Cloutier, Manager of HR Strategy and Organizational Development

Managing in a Unionized Environment (2 hours) REGISTER Date: October 25 2022 12:45PM-2:45PM Location: WS Auditorium Prerequisite: The Role of the Manager This program is critical for leaders as they will examine how to effectively manage the realities of managing in a unionized environment. Emotional Intelligence COMING SOON Date: TBD Location: TBD Emotional intelligence skills are critical for building relationships and teams, resolving conflict, solving problems, leading effectively and building resilience. Learners will:  Develop self awareness and self management of personal emotions.  Explore ways to advance personal emotional intelligence and the dimensions required in leadership.  Identify how different dimensions of EI impact the ability of leaders to influence and engage others, stimulate learning, manage change and build resilience.  Examine a detailed assessment (EQ-I 2.0) to identify your areas of strength and potential areas for development. Facilitator: TBD Crucial Conversations REGISTER Date: January 11, 2023, 8:30am-4:30pm Location: WS Auditorium Using the Crucial Learning platform, new leaders will learn essential skills to ensure positive results during crucial conversations:  Define high stakes communication and recognize when a conversation has become crucial  Identify the natural instincts for reaction to crucial conversations and the risks  Create an environment of trust and open dialogue by maintaining safety  Model the 7 steps to create a consensus (5 of 7 are focused on in class) Facilitator: Julie Campbell, Michelle Ross, Organizational Development, Niagara Health

Crucial Accountability REGISTER Date: February 2, 2023 12:30pm-4:30pm Location: SCS WFCC Room 1C Prerequisite: Crucial Conversations Using the Crucial Learning platform, this course teaches a straightforward, step-by-step process for identifying performance gaps, strengthening accountability, eliminating inconsistency, and reducing resentment.  Identify the gaps that are keeping you stuck  Clearly and concisely explain specific natural consequences  Permanently resolve problems that are accountability based  Get positive results and maintain good relationships Facilitator: Julie Campbell, Organizational Development, Niagara Health
