With open minds and loving hearts, we will achieve
Clifton-upon-Dunsmore Primary School is a small village school situated on the edge of the famous town of Rugby. This Church of England controlled school was opened on the site in Station Road in 1850. Expansions and modernisation in 1996, 2010 and 2015 which incorporated the original building, have resulted in an attractive and characterful school which provides exciting learning spaces. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that every child learns in a challenging and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to achieve their very best, both within and outside of the classroom. We are continually striving to improve outcomes for all pupils and make our school the very best it can be. We have a strong set of core values that underpin our behaviour policy and prepare our pupils to be good citizens of the community in the future. This school brochure is designed to give a very brief overview of how our school operates, what our vision and aims are and to illustrate some of the opportunities available to your children. We are delighted that you are considering Clifton-upon-Dunsmore Primary School for your child and would welcome you to visit to have a look at what we can offer. Lisa Bernard Headteacher “Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They are polite and helpful around school and have highly positive attitudes to learning. They readily support each other in lessons and on the playground.” Ofsted March 2015

Luke 10 v25-37 This leads into the story of the Good Samaritan which focusses our minds on how we should behave towards others. The Christian Values permeate through all aspects of our school life from our worship time and within all of our daily lessons . We have a particular emphasis on Respect for one another, our similarities and differences and this lies at the heart of our School Vision Statement. We believe that if we keep our minds open and use our loving hearts towards those around us, we will go on to achieve great things.
The Curriculum We are a happy, caring and progressive school. Our bespoke and carefully curated curriculum inspires and enthuses pupils to strive for excellence in all that they do. We value every aspect of the curriculum and tailor it to the needs of our unique, inclusive school community, providing opportunities to develop a lifelong love of learning. Open minds Through our curriculum, children learn to ask big questions, challenge ideas and recognise that the answer is only the beginning. The broad and varied first-hand experiences we offer have a strong emphasis on building the cultural capital of our pupils, helping them to understand themselves and make sense of the world around them. Loving hearts Our Christian values are woven through all aspects of our curriculum; a golden thread that teaches our children to be kind, openhearted and empathetic. Our broad curriculum gives pupils relevant learning experiences to help them to navigate their world and develop positive relationships with themselves and others. Pupils’ commitment to understanding and supporting local and global causes empowers them to want to change the world for the better. We will achieve Our curriculum promotes academic excellence and creativity, whilst nurturing social intelligence and meeting the needs of all learners, no matter what their starting point. We pride ourselves in the opportunities we provide for pupils to apply prior learning and secure their knowledge in meaningful contexts. At Clifton-upon-Dunsmore Primary School, all members of our community flourish, learn and succeed.
At Clifton-upon-Dunsmore Primary School, we feel it is important for children to take ownership of their learning in order to become life-long learners. We assess pupils regularly to ensure staff and pupils understand the progress pupils are making and quickly identify where additional support may be required. We have high expectations of behaviour as well as academic excellence. We reward pupils with merits for achievement, having respect and showing responsibility around school. We also have Values Ambassadors who work with the teachers recognising anyone for contributing to their sense of citizenship and supporting one another. Our positive rewards systems emphasise the importance of making right choices. At Clifton-upon-Dunsmore Primary School, we pride ourselves on being inclusive and as a staff, really get to know the children in our care. We provide not only for their academic needs, but also their social and emotional development and share Christian like behaviour in all that we do.
Religious Education Religious Education has its own place in the curriculum and is taught as a separate subject every week, following the Warwickshire Agreed Syllabus. Both Religious Education and Collective Worship are based on Christian beliefs, but children are given the opportunity to find out about other major religions and are encouraged to ask questions and respond to their own feelings. We have close links with St. Mary’s Church and share a range of services throughout the year, including Easter, Harvest Festival and Advent, among others. It should be remembered that you as parents have chosen a Church school for your child. However, parents who wish to withdraw their children from Religious Education or the collective act of worship should contact the school. We invite parents to share with us in our special community worship which we also invite members of St. Mary’s Church and the wider parish and village to enable us to keep our community links alive. “Pupils’ excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development are shaped and strengthened by religious education (RE) and collective worship.” SIAMS November 2015
