Explain the meaning of gravitational pull and weightlessness. 2. Outline the effects of the gravitational pull. 3. Describe the effects of gravitational pull on objects HOME","YR 7 WK 9 TOPIC: GRAVITATION AND WEIGHTLESSNESS 7\/30\/2023 9:11:22 PM Gravitation The object that is thrown up and falls to the ground does so because of the gravitational pull. This was discovered by a great scientist called Isaac Newton. He concluded that gravitational force is the force of attraction exerted by the earth to pull an object to itself. Weightlessness This is the absence of weight that occurs on other planets or outer space as a result of absence or low presence of gravitation. For instance, when someone moves away from the surface of the earth, the gravitational pull reduces. The further away you move, the less the gravitational pull. HOME","YR 7 WK 9 TOPIC: GRAVITATION AND WEIGHTLESSNESS 7\/30\/2023 9:11:22 PM Effects Of Gravitation Pull 1. Weight: The measure of the gravitational pull on a person determines the weight of the person. In other words, the measurement of gravitational pull of the earth on an object is called weight. 2. Human stability: Through gravitational pull of the earth, every human being is stable on the earth (i.e. people do not fall) as they are attracted to the earth. 3. Work done: Work is done, example is lifting an object from the earth as against the gravity. This is made possible by the gravitational pull. 4. Revolution of the moon: The gravitational pull of the earth attracts the moon, thereby causing the moon to revolve round the earth. 5. Balance planets: Because of gravitational pull, there is a balance of planets in our solar system such that they are all in one direction. Enumerate the types of planets in the solar system. 2. Outline the components of the solar system. The combination of all these is called solar system. Components of the solar system 1. The sun 2. The moon 3. The Planets which moves round the sun, each time on their own orbits. There are eight planets. These are: mercury, Venus, earth, mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto which would have made the ninth planet but because it has not yet cleared its orbit. The planets are listed in order. The closest one is mercury and the farthest from the sun is Neptune. It holds 99.8% of the solar system's mass and it is roughly 109 times the diameter of the earth i.e. one million earths could fit inside the sun. The visible part of the sun is 5,500 C. All the bodies revolve round it. HOME","YR 7 WK 10 TOPIC: SOLAR SYSTEM 7\/30\/2023 9:11:23 PM The moon The moon is a natural satellite. A satellite is any object that revolves round the planet. The moon can be seen with the naked eyes in the sky once it appears. It takes the moon 28days or 27days, 7 hours to complete on revolution round the earth. The major function of the moon is to give light at night even though the light is not produced by the moon, but by the sun.
