AT FIRST-PLYMOUTH UMTHNUAISTTIECS FALL 2020 ONLINE SEASON WATCH AT ABENDMUSIK.ORG

WELCOME FROM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR TOM TRENNEY Dear friends, Who would have ever imagined that our 2020-21 Abendmusik Season, our 49th, would be quite so unique?!  But what a blessing it is to have this opportunity, even in the midst of a pandemic, to gather-- albeit virtually--- to experience music that inspires.  We feel thankful that the generous support of our concert sponsors and donors enables us to share all of our fall programming online free of charge, and all of these online events will be offered as fundraisers for local non-profits who are particularly helping those in our community suffering through this difficult time. We pray that the music you will hear will become a stream in this desert and that your experience with Abendmusik today might bring some healing and restore some hope as we all find our way in the midst of this new wilderness. We will be back together again, but, until then, we are grateful that we can share this holy ground online as we continue to find ways to enrich community and inspire collaboration in this  beautiful neighborhood. Grace and peace, Tom Trenney

O Little Town of Bethlehem- arr. Grant Cochran

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing- arr. David Willcocks

Sussex Carol- English carol/ arr. Barlow Bradford On Christmas night all Christians sing to hear the news the angels bring. News of great joy, news of great mirth, news of our merciful King’s birth. Then why should we on earth be so sad, since our Redeemer made us glad, When from our sin he set us free, all for to gain our liberty? When sin departs before His grace, then life and health come in its place. Angels and men with joy may sing, all for to see the new-born King. All out of darkness we have light, which made the angels sing this night: “Glory to God and peace to men, now and for evermore, Amen!” The First Nowell- arr. Mack Wilberg The first Noel the angel did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, on a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel! Born is the King of Israel! They looked up and saw a star, shining in the East, beyond them far. And to the earth it gave great light, and so it continued both day and night. The, let us all with one accord sing praises to our heavenly Lord, Who hath made heaven and earth of naught, and with His blood mankind hath bought. Wake, Awake! - WACHET AUF/ arr. F. Melius Christiansen Text: Philipp Nicolai; translation by William Cook Wake, awake, for night is flying: the watchmen on the heights are crying, Awake, Jerusalem, arise! Midnight’s solemn hour is tolling, His chariot wheels are nearer rolling; He comes; prepare, ye virgins wise. Rise up; with willing feet, go forth, the Bridegroom meet, Hallelujah! Bear through the night your well-trimmed light, speed forth the join the marriage rite. Hear Thy praise, O Lord, ascending from tongues of men and angels blending With harps and lute and psaltery. By thy pearly gates in wonder We stand and swell the voice of thunder, in bursts of choral melody: Hallelujah! No vision ever brought, no ear hath ever caught such bliss and joy: We raise the song, we swell the throng, to praise Thee ages all along. Hallelujah. O Holy Night- Adolphe Adam Ariel Merivil, tenor

We Three Kings- arr. Tom Trenney and Jeremy Bankson

O Come, All Ye Faithful- arr. David Willcocks Behold the Star!- African-American Spiritual/ arr. William Dawson Caroline Kouma, soprano; Ariel Merivil, tenor Behold the star up yonder! It us the star of Bethlehem. There was no room found in the inn, for Him who was born free from sin. The wise men came from the East, to worship Him, the Prince of Peace. A song broke forth upon the night. It is the star of Bethlehem, peace on earth, goodwill to men. Alleluia, behold the star of Bethlehem!

Go, Tell it on the Mountain- African-American spiritual/ arr. Michael Hu

Joy to the World- arr. Steven Amundson
