Bach Prelude No. 1 in C major Call to Worship Hymn 453 (Please rise in body or spirit, and sing.) YISRAEL V’ORAITA Open Your Ears, O Faithful People Words of Welcome, Silent Prayer & The Lord’s Prayer We share a time of silence as a spiritual act of humility. The divine is beyond words and we simply stop speaking to honor that fact. Please know that silence does not mean we seek a complete lack of any noise - we love the sounds of small children and babies and other incidental noises. The remainder of our worship will be filled with music and spoken word, so we begin with peaceful silence to set the tone for worship. The Sacrament of Baptism Ethan James Soukup Child of Kristin and Drew Soukup Congregational Baptismal Response (unison) On behalf of the whole Christian Church, we now receive Ethan James into our love and care. We promise that we will uphold these parents in the fulfillment of their vows and provide for all families full opportunities for Christian growth and nurture.
Musical Response NENO LAKE MUNGU Listen, God is Calling Please join in singing the refrain as invited. Leader: Listen, All: Listen, God is calling, through the Word inviting, offering forgiveness, comfort and joy. (sing twice through) Scripture Nehemiah 8:5-6, 8-10 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. Then they bowed their heads and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground. So they read from the book, from the law of God, with interpretation. They gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading. And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our LORD; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Sermon Anthem Andrae Crouch Through it All OLD 100th Doxology (Please rise in body or spirit, and sing.) Consequently, feminine, gender-neutral, and gender-inclusive pronouns are effective metaphors as well. * Join us for coffee and cookies in Pilgrim Hall following the service. * I mmediately following this morning’s service, everyone is invited to receive communion.
