Scripture Revelation 22:1-5 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. Tree Sabbath Today’s tree sabbath services are part of First-Plymouth’s participation in Faith to Forest, a loose coalition of 28 faith communities in Lincoln focused in 2022 on the special place of trees in God’s creation, the gifts they give us, and the responsibilities we have to care for trees, particularly in a changing climate. The original idea for Faith to Forest came from First-Plymouth’s own Climate Action Team, sparked by the fact 2022 is the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day. Check out all the Faith to Forest events and opportunities at firstplymouth.org/catforest * Although the Bible and traditional prayers most often use the male pronoun to refer to the divine, it is helpful to remember God is beyond human gender. Consequently, feminine, gender-neutral, and gender-inclusive pronouns are effective metaphors as well. * Join us for coffee and cookies in Pilgrim Hall following the service. * I mmediately following this morning’s service, everyone is invited to receive communion. All are welcome to the Chapel to receive the elements from one of our clergy. First-Plymouth Congregational Church • 2000 “D” Street • Lincoln, Nebraska 68502 402.476.7565 • www.firstplymouth.org
