Can We Sing the Darkness to Light? Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir January 2020 Choir Tour Tom Trenney, conductor Anne Wilson, accompanist OUR PROGRAM l.,. . Lost in the Night Finnish folk melody/ arr. Kyle Haugen (text is Finnish traditional/ translated by Olav Lee) Lost in the night do the people yet languish, longing for morning the darkness to vanquish, plaintively heaving a sigh full of anguish. Will not day come soon? Will not day come soon? Must we be vainly awaiting the morrow? Shall those who have light no light let us borrow, Giving no heed to our burden of sorrow? Will you help us soon? Will you help us soon? Sorrowing wanderers in darkness yet dwelling, dawned has the day of a radiance excelling, death's dreaded darkness forever dispelling. Christ is coming soon. Christ is coming soon. Will not day come soon? Come and save us soon! Christ is coming soon!

Kyle Pederson (text by Kyle Pederson) What if instead of more viole nce, we let our weapons fall silent? No more revenge or retribution; no more war or persecution. It could be beautiful. What if instead of our judgment, we soften our hearts that have hardened? Instead of certainty and pride, we love and sacrifice. It could be beautiful. Can we see the other as our sister or our brother? Can we sing the darkness to light? Sounding chords of compassion and grace Set the swords of judgment aside Let mercy's eyes see the other human face. Silence may be kept
Our Love Can Mend the World Ton, Trenney (text by Tom Trenney and William Penn) The world seems so eager to threaten, but L~ve remains pa t ie nt and kind. The world strives for wealth, might and power, but Love tongs for soul, heart and mind . The world plays a loud, clanging cymbal, but Love sings its still small voice. The world delights in bearing false witness, but Love, in the truth, will rejoice! Let's see what Love can do to mend a broken world . The world makes our genders unequal, but Love treasures every design. The world lets our colors divide us, but Love makes the ra inbow its sign , The world harms with guns and with weapo ns, but Love gives the captive release. The world often hungers for violence, but Love always thirsts for our peace. Let's see what Love can do to mend a broken wo rld. The world shuns the immigrants' hunger, but Love feeds t he poor refugee. The world argues, \"They're not my child ren,\" but Love says, \"My child, come to m e \" Let's see what Love can do to men d •X oken wo r ld. Our love can mend the W < ld . V. Tom Trenney I Will Make a Wa y! (text from Isaiah 43: 19-20 and 2 Corinthians 5:1 7) Behold! I will do a new thing! Everything old has passed away. See, everything old has become new. I will make a way in the wilderness. I will make rivers in the desert. Do not remember the former things or consider the ways of old. The wild animals will honor me, the jackals and ostriches. For I give water in the wilderness, the desert shall be a pool. I will make a way in the wilderness. I will make rivers in the desert. Everything old is passed away. I will make a way!
