Networking Concepts Networking Components- Computer networks components comprise both physical parts as well as the software required for installing computer networks, both at organizations and at home. Some additional components required to establish wired networking in a group of computers- Network Card: It physically attaches a computer to a network(to participate in network communication). ENC(Ethernet Network Card)- Most common. Network Cable: Ethernet networks use twisted pair cable- which contain 8 wires. There is an RJ-45 connector which is crimped at both the ends of the cable. Modem: It is a device which enables you to connect your computer to the available internet connection over the existing telephone lines. It converts digital signals into analog signals for their transmission. The receiving modem then further converts these into digital signals so that the data can be understood at the receiving end. Hub: It connects all the computers with each other. It plays a big role in broadcasting. First a request is sent by a computer to hub. Then the hub transmits this request to all the other computers in that network. Then the checking of the messages is done.
Switch: Switch also connects computers, but in a different way. It does not do broadcasting. Instead, it just transfers information from one computer to another. In this way it provides a direct connection between 2 computers and increases the speed of the network. Router: It connects two different types of networks with each other. It not only gives a fast way to transmit messages from one computer to another, but also provides the best route to deliver the message.
