The Quill MY FATHER IS MY HERO! My favourite superheroes are Spiderman, Captain America and Hulk. But my first favourite hero is my father. He is my superhero, my best friend and my role model. He wakes me up by singing songs. He makes me laugh and he plays games with me. Sometimes he will support me when my mom says things like, “Do your homework” on a Saturday or a Sunday, and he will let me play for some more time. He will also ask me to study well and be a good student. He will buy all my favourite food and take me to Fun City. When I told him that I like boxing, he let me join a boxing class and he always encourages me to do well. He takes care of my grandmother, my mom and me very nicely. He works very hard, sometimes even on a Saturday or a Sunday, but yet, he will spend time with me and my mom. He is funny, helpful and his friends and office friends like him a lot. He teaches me so many cool things like dog breeds, bikes and cars. He likes to exercise and I learnt push ups from him. I like him so much, and I want to be like him someday. I am going to study well, become a great boxer and make him proud one day. I thank God for giving me my dad and my mom KAVISH. M III – B THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

The Quill My Lockdown Best Friend One fine day, I was watching news on TV and the news reader said that a virus had attacked people. The people were dying, and the news reader warned us not to go out, and to be careful. I discussed this news with my parents and we were all afraid about it. In a few days we got to know that the name of the virus was ‘Corona’. In a few days, the government announced a lockdown and people were not supposed to go outside. Then my parents stayed at home and continued their work. This gave me some space to spend time with them for the entire day. I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner with them. I played and danced with them, and they became my best friends. I also started planting trees, and I watered them daily. They gave me flowers and fruits after six months. I also started to feed birds and everyday they call out to me with sounds like ‘coo- coo’, ‘kaa-kaa’. So during this lockdown, my parents, plants and birds became my best friends. I am so happy with them! M.K. HAJANTHIKAA CLASS- 4-B THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill One new thing that I learnt during the lockdown During the lockdown, I learnt many new things like always staying healthy, keeping yourself and your surroundings clean, and the importance of spending more time with our family. I also spent time on my hobbies like cycling, painting, and playing my favourite building blocks game. One thing I will always remember is the time I spent gardening with my parents in the little garden space at our house. It is joyful to water the plants daily, and see them growing. It’s amazing to know how plants are playing an important role in our life. It is a great opportunity for me to understand, appreciate and be thankful for the environment. It is our duty to look after the environment. I am happy to share this important learning with my friends. Let us all plant more, and save our environment and planet. Stay Safe, Stay Healthy! The Quill Our Festivals We have many festivals like Diwali, Pongal, Holi, Bakrid, etc. We will celebrate these festivals and eat many sweets like Laddu, Jilabi, Gulab Jammun etc. Diwali is my favorite festival because we burst crackers and play with the sticks. Due to pollution, we did not burst crackers for the past four years. Another favorite festival of mine is Holi because we play with water colours and burn the fire. But still, we have to be careful, because sometimes people may mix chemicals in them. Pongal is also an important festival because it's a festival for thanking the farmers by giving fruits, vegetables, etc. During that time, we eat sweet Pongal and spicy Pongal and sweets like Mysore Pak and Gulab Jammun. Raksha Bandhan is a festival for brothers and sisters. Brothers will tie Rakhi on their sisters’ wrists. We wear special dresses on special occasions. Ganesh Chaturthi is the festival that we celebrate for Lord Ganesh on his birthday. We pray to him with sweet kolukattai and spicy kolukattai. We put up a Ganesh Statue at home for a few days, for our prayer, and then immerse the statue in water. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22

Once upon a time, there was a squirrel enjoying himself on a tree. A river ran below. Suddenly the squirrel fell on a chameleon and the chameleon was very angry. The squirrel was frightened. He said “I won’t be enough to satisfy your hunger, so please let me go”. And the chameleon said “I will ask you one question, you must answer it, and then I’ll let you go”. The squirrel said that he would answer it only from the tree. The chameleon accepted this, and the squirrel happily jumped onto the tree, and asked the chameleon to ask his question. The chameleon began, “ How are you always happy? Look at us, we always have an angry face”.The squirrel replied “Well, you see, we don’t trouble anyone for anything, and we just do our duties, without troubling anyone.” The chameleon understood his mistakes. The Quill The Clever Pot One day there was a man searching for a pot because his family had asked him for a pot to store water. There was a pot which was hiding itself, searching for food. After a few minutes the pot saw a beautiful pond. The pot went near the pond and took some water, which was its food. Meanwhile there was a group of bees that were buzzing around the flowers which were near the pond . The pot asked the bees for help, that is to sting the man who was searching for the pot. ‘I will sit under a tree where I am visible to the man and when he comes near me , all of you will sting him’, said the pot to the bees. When the man saw the pot and came near it all the bees started stinging him and he ran away from the place. Thank you THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill The Best Thing I Learned During Lockdown During the lockdown I have learnt many new things, like always stay healthy, keep yourself clean, family is very important, and many more. I learnt gardening, painting, dancing, etc. I have spent an amazing time with my family and it has been a great experience for me, because most of the time, they used to be busy with their own work, but now they can spend time with me. This lockdown has allowed me and my family to spend more time together. I also started doing yoga with my dad in the morning to boost my energy Our teachers are now teaching lessons from their houses. During this lockdown we can’t go outside to school, parks or even eat outside. But we can study online and convert a portion of our home into a play area and make different types of food at home. For all the celebrations in the family, we make different varieties of food and cake at home now. The lockdown has taught me that we can change our ways and still achieve our target. By: M.G. The Quill Diary Entry 26th July 2021 Monday 8:30 pm Dear Diary, Last night at about 11 PM, I was alone at home, because my parents were at a function.I was reading a book in my room when suddenly the lights went off. As I searched for a candle, water started flooding inside the house. It was very dark outside and the only sound was the loud BOOM of thunder. I had found the candle, but I was not able to light it because it was wet. So, I found a torch but Alas! The charge was low, and so without any source of light I started pushing the water out with a mop. The whole night I was pushing the water out. However, I enjoyed playing in the water and felt like a hero because I was trying to protect my house from the water. Thank God today morning, the sky was very clear,my parents came home and appreciated me.We all had a cup of tea and started cleaning our house. Last night was an incredible night for me. The Quill The Pandemic: A Blessing in Disguise ‘The Covid-19 pandemic has taken over the world for the past one and a half years. The whole world is stuck indoors. People are masked up, making it difficult for people to recognize each other. Millions of people are affected and thousands of people die each day. No one wants to get too socialised if they were their closest friends. Negativity is all over the place. The world is sad.’ This is what people will say if you ask them about the pandemic. Maybe, I would have said the same thing a couple of days ago. Let’s recall the positivity we lost during this time. People spend a lot more time with their families. The rate of road accidents has notably decreased. Reading habits have developed in people, surprisingly the one who never touched a book has changed. Even kids have begun to attend online school happily. Lots of things have changed since the pandemic has begun in a good way. How can we not accept the pandemic as a boon after all this? Think of everything in a positive way. You will find happiness in these darkest times too. Stay home. Stay safe! Nakshatra V.S. VIII-A THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill is the next God Google is a company which is growing faster everyday. In the last few years Google has grown so fast that most of our gadgets are from Google. Google Home is a voice controlled speaker with an AI called Google Assistant in it . Even in our mobile phones we use a lot of Google apps like youtube, chrome, etc . Even Google apps like Docs, Sheets and Slides are used by many people in the world who just don't know how to use Microsoft Word since it's very complicated to use and the Google apps listed above are super easy to use. In the last decade, Google has gotten so powerful that it launched its own Phone line! It is called the Google Pixel, with the 6th edition of the phone due by 30th of this month. It has been given very good ratings by reviewers and critics. Google has its own phone, has its own AI, has its own browser and they’ve all got the best reponses. So it's safe to say Google is the next God, since it kind of gives all you need. If they created a laptop, or a smart fridge,or a smart tv, Google could literally take care of your home for you. So I think in the near future Google is going to take care of your whole home. Adithyan.T VIII A THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill If Time Travel is possible, we are tourists from the Future This is the apropos of a path finder in science, an outstanding cosmologist, and the world’s best known astrophysicist……….Stephen Hawking! He is one of the most profound people. He made himself an endowed personality with unutterable knowledge and tremendous courage. His life was teeming with endeavours. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neuromuscular wasting disease ,also known as Lou Gehrig, was slowly engulfing him. Over time, the disease reduced his bodily controls to the flexing of a finger and voluntary eye movements. Rapid changes in his physical condition were visible after he joined Cambridge. He proved that the doctors who said that he only had 2 years to meet his end , had erroneous assumptions. He received his degree from Oxford in 1962 and completed PHD thesis in Cambridge ,in precise he didn’t even require much help from his guide. He never stopped researching, discovering and giving new insights to science. During 1966 ,he solved all the challenging questions regarding Einstein’s theory of relativity. This was the time when his hands weren't able to write. But still to consummate and accomplish his dreams, he commenced to use a voice processor and also attained his dreams after lots of hurdles. ne of his discoveries was the ‘Hawking Effect’ . I was truly emulated by his diligence and gathering of knowledge. Stephen proved his disability never came into the way of success and was persuaded to contribute to science until his brain malfunctioned. INTELLIGENCE IS THE ABILITY TO ADAPT TO CHANGE. The Quill Leadership Today a READER tomorrow a LEADER. Let me begin my CHRONICLE by quoting names of a few famous leaders of history like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King and this list is truly endless….This generation has only read about these great leaders. But instead of worrying about not having met them, I yearned to aspire and commence being emulated by few present leaders namely Mr. Narendra Modi,Mrs. Kiran Bedi , Mr. Silendra Babu , Mr.Kailash Satyarthi and this list unequivocally encompasses my own DAD. He possesses a company, he’s an entrepreneur, and by seeing his dedication and good traits, I commenced thinking beyond one’s wildest dreams. “A leader is the one who knows the path , shows the path and walks on the path.” It’s very true. A person who just guides or escorts you and designates the path is not a leader but a “BOSS”. But the person, who is equipped to step on the risky and perilous path with you by clenching your hands in a very positive vibe, is known as a true leader. I’m travelling along and being nurtured by his leadership qualities and characteristics from a juvenile age. I learnt that men will surely have many ups and downs in their life and as I'm thriving-up in life, I am also capable of acclimatizing and attuning to any circumstance and I am a proficient in the goal of anger management THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill Leadership A great leader is the one who motivates you to achieve your goals. He is an influencer and does not force people to follow him. But due to his good deeds and traits, people follow him on their own. And I am doing so…. “A leader must be the sign of the squad and lead them in the precise bearing of wealthness of everyone. “You all might think that if a leader is so important, then what about LEADERSHIP?? Well , it is proportionally vital. For instance, when we do some work as a flock, there is always a person who dispenses the work and always scrutinizes progress. He also makes sure that there are no loopholes and attempts to finish everything early . “A leader’s voice must not be his own voice but the Team’s voice must be the Leader’s voice”. If you are a leader, attempt to gratify everyone’s responsibilities , desires and ethically be proud of yourself. Harshitha VII A THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill The Pandemic Situation Hi friends. This is P.Athirai, promoted to 5th grade. Nice to meet you all again in this newsletter section. By seeing this topic, you must think that I am going to talk about the covid-19 and the impact it is having around the world. Well, no. I am going to write about the pandemic situation covid created in my life. I clearly remember the day when the school announced the postponement of our final exams. I was overwhelmed with joy and I remember closing my books immediately and doing a hip hop dance. When we were promoted from 3rd to 4th grade without exams, I was surprised. The concept of online classes started in our life. I was very excited, because officially I am allowed to use the computer. A visual class…. the very idea itself fascinated me. At this point only, the covid started playing in my life, rather in all my friends' lives too. Transition from pencil to pen writing, doing all the studies in home itself…. It started having a different effect on me. Here the story starts, my mother was promoted as my teacher. The relationship between my mother and me took a new turn. Even though I was taught and learnt to handle 8 different subject teachers... I found it difficult to handle my mother as my only teacher. Even though the online class finishes off in the afternoon, my classes continued with my mother throughout the day. Look covid what you have done in my life. I sometimes wonder who is exactly doing the 5th grade. I think my mother is just anxious and wants to do her best to help in my studies. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill The Pandemic Situation I have to tell you about our online class sessions. First, it started in a weird way. Since we were so naïve, the teachers had to continuously remind us how to switch between classes, how to turn in our assignments, fill out Google forms etc. But this was the story last year. Now we all become very big experts. And now, we all have the same excuse to tell all the time. \"Why are you late?\"… Network problem mam, \"Answer my question?\"….I can't hear you mam, network problem mam, \"Turn on your video\"... Video is not working, network problem mam. Ha..Ha. But I miss my teachers so much and the class environment too. Hats off to our teachers... In such a small screen, they are continuously monitoring us and making us understand and learn. I have to add another important thing also... Our frequent visit to the principal mam’s room... Yes mam, we miss you. But we will be back soon. I miss my friends so much, but it's ok that I get to see them once in a while at zoom meet. Look Corona, what all you did. Please give us back our life. We promise you that we will follow all the safety measures. I am longing for the day to return to school. I miss you NGP. The Quill The Pandemic A blessing in disguise This pandemic has been harsh on all of us. We all have learned to never underestimate Mother Nature .We all can't visit places during our summer break or winter break and we can't go to our favourite book stores or toy stores . It has been hard for our parents and our teachers and us too . Teachers are working hard to teach us through Google meet and classroom. Our parents have been working from home. The doctors of our country have been working above and beyond to help India be free from corona and they have made a vaccine to help with this pandemic. But below all ☀️of this darkness there is a ray of light .You all might have heard that Delhi was too dangerous because of the air pollution. Because of this pandemic, no one is going outside nor using cars and bikes and buses and factories to pollute the air so there is no air pollution. We all use to throw plastic in water bodies and factories use to let synthetic dyes into the rivers. Just because we are not going out there is no water pollution! But all of this is not helping us right? But it is ! When you were going to school and your parents going to work you would not have quality family time so now because of this pandemic we all have quality family time . Some of us might agree this pandemic is really a blessing in disguise . I will be waiting for the day when we throw our masks away and live without fear of covid -19 ! The Quill True Emotions Karthik, Vinith and Sharath were good friends, living in the same apartment. Every day they go to school together and play together in the evening. Everything was going well. Because of covid 19 they all have only online classes. Sitting alone inside the room and attending online classes made them unhappy. They did not like to spend the whole day inside the home. Life became very boring for them. They meet rarely even though they were in the same place. They were unable to share their feelings with others. In this situation they were introduced to a new friend called “Mobile Phone”. It gave a new twist in their life. Nowadays they spend more time with the new arrival by playing games & watching videos. Life becomes more exciting. It made them stay away from their parents, although they were in the same home. They did not like their parents as before. The advice given by the parents irritated them. They did not want to spend their time with their parents. The over usage of gadgets changed them irregularly. The parents got tense when the children did not obey or listen to their words. The bond between the parents and children got spoiled. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill True Emotions One day all the three friends met accidently. They talked with each other and found that all of them have the same feelings. They planned to teach a lesson to their parents. They went to their parents and told them that they want to stay alone without any disturbance. Then, the parents decided to execute some plans. After a few days, all the parents went home. Each one, Karthik, Vinith and Sharath sensed that they got freedom. They wanted to be as they wished. They felt very happy. They all met at Vinith’s home. They have their favourite food in the kitchen, they can watch TV shows or play video games whatever they like. But as the time passed, slowly they thought something was missing in their home. It was the caring given by parents. Even though they had all they felt none. Children realized that gadgets alone won’t provide happiness and are just devices through which our emotions cannot be shared. They understood the importance of parents and decided to obey their parents. Nobody can be replaced with parents. The Quill Pocket money boon or a bane Parents are always the well wishers of their children. They want their children to have the best and to be the best. And for this, they try to give every best possible facility to them. Not only facilities, in fact they try to fulfil each and every desire of their children whether it's in their budget or not. They feel happy when their children put newer desires in front of them and feel even happier when they fulfil them. Sometimes in this blind race of fulfilling desires parents forget that this could be harmful in some or other sense for them and their children in future. Giving pocket money for children to save and use is a good way to prevent unhealthy habits. Learn to make a budget: When a fixed amount of pocket money is given to a child and she is told to manage all her expenses within that given sum of money the child learns how to make a budget and uses his money in more important tasks. This habit of making a budget proves to be a better thing in his future life. When a child learns to make his budget; She then decides what is useful and what is not. In this way she divides all her expenses to be done in three parts- useful, less useful and useless. She straight away discards the useless expenses and deals with useful first and then less useful. She learns to save money. Spending money judiciously improves their character and performance. Giving pocket money has a lot of advantages. Learning to manage money is an essential life skill. By giving a child pocket money, it also gives them financial independence. He/she is now able to buy necessary things, such as notebooks, materials for projects and also to spend, occasionally on other things like ice creams or chocolates. The Quill THE BEST DAY IN MY LIFE Once I had a dream. That was the best dream in my life. It was exam time and the results came. I was shocked by seeing my result, because I failed. Even though I studied very well, I failed. I was so sad, when my friend came, he said “0h, I was so scared about this result.” I asked, “Why, did you think you would fail?” He said “No my friend, the water felt in the result unknowingly so I rewrote it.” Then I asked “what number do you write for me?” He said casually “Oh I wrote it as 6”, I ran to school. But in reality, a group of flies disturbed me so I woke up. That time was 7:00 a.m. I got ready to go to school and my father said “Go to school, the results might come,” I said “Ok, father”. When I went to school and saw my result, I was stunned, I got only 6 marks. Then my friend came there, who I saw in my dream and said the same dialogue he had said in my dream “Oh, I was so scared about this result”. I understood, the scene came in my dream, happening in the real. He spilt water on the result, so I ran to the principal office and explained about the wrong result and how it happened. The principal asked my friend “Oh David, is what he is saying true?”. My friend thought “Oh he knows the truth, if we tell lies we get a big punishment, so I will say the truth”. He decided and accepted the truth. So that was the best day in my life. S. Krithik VE THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill Procrastination! What's that one habit that's easy to cultivate and difficult to get rid of? Yes, that definitely has to be an act of procrastination! I am sure everyone must have experienced it, at least at some point in their life. We set huge goals, do lots of planning, take new year resolutions, and what not! But what happens after that? We tend to lose enthusiasm, we procrastinate, and somehow it all goes in vain. Same with even small things like a 10-minute homework, or a 15-minute read, or even some workout. It could be anything! We usually ignore doing it, thinking: “Come on, I can do this even the next day” or “I have many more days to submit my work, so why today?” . If not all, it’s at least me who thinks like that. But remember, it enters like a needle (procrastination) and comes out like a plough. In the beginning, it all looks very small, but then, it ends up being a huge burden on us! So here are a few things we can try following to stop procrastinating: 1. Changing your mindset - This is the basic foundational thing to do or achieve anything in life. We have to set our minds on what we want to do because what we think and decide is what we finally execute. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill Procrastination! 2. Reward yourself - Celebrate the little achievements you've done by giving a treat to your own self. These rewards boost you to complete your tasks faster, rather than procrastinating. 3. Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground - this means dream big but be realistic! Don't think of doing too many things in one shot, rather break them into smaller chunks, and do them consistently. This helps in not overburdening yourself, and also makes it easier to reach your goal. 4. Eliminate distractions - In a place with many distractions, it is easier to procrastinate. So try to make sure you are away from distractions and temptations to stay more focused. I am pretty sure that this is one of the toughest habits that need to be battled with. But it’s all worth spending your time and energy in completing those tasks. The process could be as bitter as you might expect but the end result of being anxiety-free and joyful can be like a cherry on a cake. The Quill The Power of Positivity Honestly, when I was in lower grades, I used to wonder why people send positive quotes and good morning messages with some positive thoughts to each other. I asked myself if it would make any difference. And now I know the answer. It gives us an invisible power to encounter or face anything for the rest of the day or even the rest of our lives. So here are a few indispensable words that helped me thrive in this new normal. Love yourself! No matter what other people think of you and no matter what you are not capable of, just love yourself. Loving yourself gives you more self-confidence. Failure is the first step to success…! We may have come across these words often. Seriously, I found 9th grade difficult initially and my scores didn’t turn out as I expected them to be. But then I came to know that most of the great personalities have faced failures before their success. Then I understood that without encountering failures, your success has no meaning. The Quill I Miss PT Periods All of us are experiencing the pandemic now, and encountering things that we’ve never experienced before. Imagine sneezing in the middle of a crowd, I bet you! It’s going to freak everyone out, and you will be sent immediately in an ambulance (Disclaimer: Please don’t try such dangerous breathtaking stunts!). Such is the situation right now. Corona has brought many changes into our lives. All of us are really working hard to cope with the refashioned lifestyle and I would actually say that we’re getting the hang of things and things are slowly coming under control. Yet, deep inside we all miss certain things like going out and casually meeting or dropping into people’s houses. One such thing that I really miss is school and all those joyful memories that we made together every day and I guess I am talking for everyone when I say that. The most fun and the fruitful part that I miss now is, of course, our PT classes. Remember that moment when your class gets an extra PT class, and the other section doesn’t? Oh my god, you’ve got to see the sorrowful expression on their faces!. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill I Miss PT Periods PT classes were those most cheerful hours of school, where we spent joyous moments with our friends, laughing and talking, not worrying about anything else. The way we used to coax our teachers for extra hours of play (I am not sure if it was a coax or a nag, but still…), was like one of those only times our class somehow had this feeling of unity, and we all fought for a collective cause (might sound silly, but yeah...). Those crazy fights we have on deciding which game to play and on separating teams(once we spent 25 minutes on deciding teams ), that little enjoyment we got out of the victory after a class match, and of course those times when you throw the ball out of the school’s fence and the teacher makes you go out and get it, forgetting the work done register on purpose and using that as a reason to get out of class and go get it, and convincing our teacher that it’s fine to continue the game during rain (the aim, of course, was not to end the match, but was to wet ourselves and enjoy the shower together) are all priceless memories that will last forever! The Quill I Miss PT Periods PT classes are hands down the best part of the school. Whether it adds to your physique or not, it definitely gives a person delight and mental relaxation. We’ve already lost a lot of precious days of our lives, so hopefully, we don’t miss more! Hope we pacify the ever-growing rage of the pandemic, and soon get out onto the ground and spend at least the rest of our school days with real people, and not just end it with gadgets. The Quill How to be Creative For nearly five years I walked the same street to my school stop twice a day, morning and evening, passing the same houses, the same piles of trash, the same parked cars. Every day the same thing. Nothing new to see. Sometimes, days could go by like that–everything the same. Nothing new to see. One good day walking those same streets, I would look up for a change and notice the vibrant new spring leaves or cross the street to see that same stretch from another vantage point or take a different, longer route altogether. Those tiny explorations could make an otherwise mundane walk exciting. During the pandemic and locking ourselves to our four walls, the thing we most lack is “Creativity” How does one learn to be creative, one develops the ability to produce lots of new ideas, to respond to problems easily and energetically? The answer to this is “Go outside. Look around. Walk. Notice. Exploration encourages creativity and invention”. Here are five ways to explore the landscape around you and to spark your creative mind: THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill How to be Creative 1. FEED YOUR CURIOSITY. Noticing new details is a perpetuating cycle. The more we pay attention to details around us, the more we discover and want to pay attention. After a weekend or so of exploring, the explorer grasps at the magic peculiar to riding with eyes and mind open. 2. LEARN TO MANAGE RISKS AND FIND A BALANCE. Letting yourself step away from your work to take a walk shouldn’t be an activity reserved for only sunny beautiful afternoons. “Direct contact, face-to-face with warm breezes and freezing rain, sometimes vulnerable, the explorer learns to weigh risk, to balance exertion and danger and discovery and relaxation,” says Stilgoe. 3. START TO UN-PROGRAM YOUR THINKING. We tend to follow a regimented schedule, even when we are taking time away from school to exercise. Yoga at six. The treadmill for half an hour. Drawing every Tuesday night. What if, on occasion, you allowed that time of exercise to be unregimented? Unprogrammed exercise and a rediscovery of what schools and media suffocate blend into some larger whole that reorients the mind, that offers a reward greater than any posted by pure physical exercise. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill How to be Creative 4. MAKE CREATIVE EXPLORATION Make a habit of noticing the details around you, of going out of your way to make small new discoveries. It’s a subtle shift. Exploration is a second nature, easy enough to recover any weekday evening, any Sunday morning, 5. SCRUTINIZE THE UNFAMILIAR. We tend to let our eyes graze over the things we don’t know answers to when we’re out and about. But you can walk down a path to find out where it leads or pick up a scrap of paper on the ground to discover what’s written on it. Allowing yourself to get out into nature in particular, can help reawaken your curiosity. Outdoors, away from things, experts have already explained, a thoughtful person looks around carefully for a few minutes, scrutinizes things about which he or she knows nothing, in particular, begins to be aware, to notice, to explore. The explorer owns all the insights, all the magic that comes from looking. Prithika Narayanan XII D THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill We Got Caught! It was a beautiful sunday summer morning around half past three or so. Cool winds, moist air and dark clouds everywhere. The streets were wet and due to the rain last night, as usual my neighbours who were more like my friends packed water bottles, some crisps, their phones and cameras without which this was all meaningless. We were a group of six, all of us were teens and had most of our late nights and early mornings together. We geared up our cycles, carefully tiptoed out of our community gate and started riding on! We raced each other, had long drives and sometimes we would race for 13 Km! It might be exaggerating but we do have proof of this, our phones would track our ride all the time. When the sun reached the brink of the horizon all of us would line up with our cams and start shooting the sun, it was so beautiful that we were never bored to record it every sunday and graze it all week days, eagerly waiting for the next opportunity to capture the sun in a different setting. Once we happened to cross a police officer who probably was on his way back home, he was puzzled seeing a gang of six riding toward him and shouted in order to warn us that he was a police and was armed, we were scared too but didn’t run back Instead we stopped our rides and paved way for the officer, the officer slowly maneuvered towards us and looked at us stunned, he asked us what we were upto, we explained him everything, our hands and lips trembled as we spoke to him. The Quill Although he left us after collecting all our parents' numbers and ordered us to ride slowly and on the side of the road and not to be careless. We agreed with him and rushed back home still scared and feared that our parents would know about this five month old routine. We went home later than usual hence we were caught. “A group of six teenagers were caught red handed in front of the community gate early this morning” This would be the headline of our community newspaper... if we had one. But by God's grace we weren’t severely punished. Instead we were told to inform one of our parents when we leave for another such trip, that's when we were outside, the moment we were indoors, I am pretty sure you might have guessed what might have happened next. So that's what happend when we were caught! -Paarth.U.Vakharia Grade 11 B THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
The Quill Learn a new language! Korean and Japanese Korean: Korean is an East Asian language spoken by about 77 million people, mainly the Korean population, as of 2010. It is the official and national language of both North Korea and South Korea, with different standardized official forms used in each country. Korean is maybe one of the most difficult languages for an English speaking foreigner to learn, the first hurdle is the Korean / ‘Hangul’ alphabet which is completely different from English. However it may at first look like a load of strange alien lines and circles to begin with, but in reality it’s quite (not very) simple to learn. My experience: I have been learning Korean since 2020, and I can read, write and understand various words and paragraphs. I use this as my hobby and I've learnt so much about the people, culture, language, music industry, entertainment industry and the places. I find it fascinating to learn more about it and would like to visit South Korea one day. It all started with my interest in the music of different bands and their industry, which was very unique and diverse. When I researched about it, my interest grew even more and I started learning the language. THE NGP SCHOOL | SEPTEMBER EDITION 2021-22
