FROM THE NICKELSONS For over 30 years, the New Antioch church has been a part of the Nickelson family. It has seen us go through our dating days, the highs and lows of marriage, a daughter, many promotions, accomplish- ments, and the vicissitudes of life in general. New Antioch has prayed with us, sang with us, shouted with us, mourned with us, and celebrated with us. Through Mother Lewis we have gained confidence to move forward in challenging times, knowing we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Through Founding Pastor Bishop Dad Lewis, we learned to be brave knowing God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love, and a sound mind, and that no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper. Dad Lewis challenged us to stay with God no matter what life brings because it’s better to go to heaven in a Volkswagon then to go to hell in a Rolls Royce. He taught us we can rely on God. He’s our rock, he’s our fortress, he’s our deliverer, he’s our sword, he’s our shield, he’s our buck- ler, it’s in him that we live and move and have our being. Every day, we should keep reaching, keep climbing, keep stretching, keep pressing to- wards the mark for the prize of the high calling in Jesus Christ knowing that our labor is not in vain. Stay on the battlefield until we die, he would say, and that, we plan to do. First giving honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My name is Sister Glenda Murrell and it has been a blessing to be a member of the New Antioch Church Family for 16 years. I joined New Antioch Church of God in Christ in January 2003, under the leadership of the Founder Bishop James A. Lewis and Mother Barbara McCoo Lewis. Before I moved home to Los Angeles from Waco, Texas. I was a member of the Carter’s Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor J. L. Carter and Mother Fred- die Carter. When I informed Mother Carter that I would be moving back to Los Angeles, she told me that I needed to find a church home and “The Lewis.” And I am so grateful that I did! When I am asked where I am a member, I say it proud, with my head held high and my shoulders back. “I am a member, a PROUD member of New Antioch Church of God in Christ, my Pastor is Superintendent Jeffery Lewis and my First Lady is Mrs. Floetta Lewis.” I’m so thankful for this way and my church family.
