Looking on a deeper perspective FROM COVAR... Various aspects of Filipino Psychology can be understood by deconstructing the parts that make up the “Filipino Personhood”; this deconstruction must be based on the culture, beliefs and practices of the Filipino people, or “Folk Knowledge”. By using the “Metaphor of the Human Body and the Jar” (Metapora ng Katawan at Banga), it is possible to create a system or theory about “Filipino Personhood” and the “Filipino as a Person” — which can be likened to a “jar” that has an “Exterior, Interior, and Depth” (“Labas, Loob, at Lalim”). Through the theory of the “Partnership between the External and Internal parts” (Tambalan ng Loob at Labas), Filipino personhood can be explained based on the different parts of the human body that work in tandem with each other, like (1) the Face and the Mind; (2) the Chest and the Heart; (3) the Belly and the Guts; and (4) the Stomach and the Liver. Lastly, Depth explains the tandem of (5) the Soul and the Conscience (“Budhi”), or a person’s moral sensibilities. TALK OF MAGAZINE -  04  - MAY 2022
