in STUDENT FORMATION & DISCIPLINE

Digital Well-Being and Academic Support Students’ Formation and Discipline Dress Code School Uniform The SSC Grade School uniform serves as an identification of a Grade School Scholastican. To help students be in the proper mindset of being present in class, they are encouraged to wear their school uniform. This will help remind them of the learning task they have to accomplish each day. As such, all students are encouraged to come to the online class in the prescribed attire. The prescribed attire consists of any of the following: ● White Blouse and Blue Jumper Skirt ● Plain white round neck shirt paired with jeans or jogging pants ● Scion shirt paired with jogging pants ● Old PE and class shirt paired with jeans During PE time or Co-Curricular Activity, they have to wear the prescribed footwear that their teacher requires. The school encourages students to have their hair well kempt, properly and neatly combed when they attend online classes. Even if they are at home, jewelry and accessories are discouraged. Students are asked to live out the value of simplicity. However they may use simple watches and stud earrings.

Digital Well-Being and Academic Support Students’ Formation and Discipline Attendance • Regular attendance is important for students to profit from the daily instruction in class. Make the necessary time allowance to be on time for online classes. • Students are expected to attend school-mandated and scheduled online activities (school-wide masses, school programs and assemblies, etc.) • Only absences due to valid reasons such as illness, problem in connectivity and the like are excused. Students who are absent must make sure that they are able to cope with the school work they missed. They are encouraged to take the initiative to keep themselves updated by communicating with their classmates and teachers once they are ready to attend their online classes. • Students who are absent for a particular day or activity are expected to remind their parents or guardians to send an electronic mail to the Class Adviser stating the reason for the absence with an electronic carbon copy (cc) furnished to the Head Teacher. In the absence of a written explanation, the Class Adviser or the Head Teacher may reach out to the parents or guardians to clarify the reason/s for the absence/s. • Student/s may not leave the Google classroom during synchronous sessions except when needed or an emergency or when the student/s really need/s to go to the washroom. • In the event when parents or guardians foresee an absence on certain days, the parent or guardian has to write a letter to the Grade School Principal stating the reason/s for such absence and an electronic carbon copy (cc) is sent to the Coordinator for Student Formation and Services and Head Teacher.

Digital Well-Being and Academic Support Students’ Formation and Discipline Punctuality Coming on time to all online classes, activities, assemblies and the like is expected of every Scholastican. The Class Adviser or Subject Teacher monitors tardiness and sends an online report to the Head Teacher and to the parents or guardians. School Materials Every student must come to the Google classroom with the complete prescribed materials such as books, notebooks, writing materials, pencils, pens, crayons and others. In consonance with the school’s aim on simplicity, unnecessary and expensive materials are not allowed. We encourage the use of old school materials. Sectioning This Academic Year, students will be grouped according to their last year’s sectioning. This is to lessen the students’ anxiety in the need to adjust to a new set of faces and personalities in their class. It is expected that with the familiarity with their classmates, students will be able to create a stronger bond among one another which they really need during these times.

Digital Well-Being and Academic Support Students’ Formation and Discipline Online Conduct Even if the students are online, they should be able to observe proper behavior. Each student is still expected to behave in the manner befitting of a Scholastican. Proper Behavior in the Google Classroom / Zoom Class a. Discussion should be done in moderate tones during an activity so as not to distract others. b. While waiting for the next subject teacher use the wait time to read or study. c. Attend to your personal necessities before the beginning of each online class. You may also use your recess or lunch breaks to do so. If you find it really necessary to go, ask permission from the teacher before leaving d. Make sure to submit your own work and cite your sources, if any. e. Remember not to post photos and videos of fellow students, teachers and school personnel without the consent of the people involved. f. Do not share screenshots, post images or video recordings of school produced materials/ communications without the permission of the school especially on social media.

Digital Well-Being and Academic Support Students’ Formation and Discipline Netiquette and Social Media Etiquette Some techniques for online netiquette and social media etiquette that grade school students, teachers and parents can follow and apply in order to create a better online learning environment: Be responsible online. When you are at the computer, you are in control. Avoid using the computer to harm other people. Taking things which are not yours (such as files, passwords, or projects), spreading rumors about other people online, and inflecting other computers with viruses (on purpose) are examples of harming other people. Avoid hurting someone’s feelings. Sometimes, online, people can’t tell that you are joking. When you write a message, make sure the person you’re sending it to will know whether you are happy, sad, angry, joking, etc. You can do this by using smileys, such as . Respect the privacy of other people. If someone tells you something secret, it should be kept secret. This includes passwords, full names, addresses, or interests. Sharing your own password with someone else even someone you like, is never a good idea. Passwords and personal information are private and are never safe to share with others

Digital Well-Being and Academic Support Students’ Formation and Discipline Ways to Use the Internet Safely and Responsibly o Think before you post. o Respect other people online, avoid gossip. o Ask for permission before you meet online friends in-person o Don’t feed cyberbullies-block the sender, ignore mean messages, file a report with the website and inform your teachers, parents/guardians o Speak up if you see someone getting bullied. o Clean up your profile, eliminate your page of everything too personal, embarrassing and inappropriate o Use the privacy settings. o Monitor what other post about you. o Keep your parents/guardians in the loop- tell them when you add new sites, new friends or see something suspicious or harmful. o Use your voice for good-use social media to do something productive for you or for a cause. AVOID How to stop CYBERBULLYING: o STOP Log off the site where the bullying is happening. o BLOCK Block emails or messages. Don’t respond to them. o RECORD Save the Message or email and show to an adult. o TALK IT OUT Tell someone you trust.

How can our Guidance Counselors help you? GUIDANCE SERVICES In keeping with the culture of “new normal” as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Grade School Unit of the Sr. Liguori Life Management and Wellness Center, guided by its vision and mission, has reimagined and reinvented the means of providing programs and services to its students . The migration/shift to the online mode of delivery has been taken to ensure that students, while staying at home, are continually given psycho-emotional support and are properly guided by the counselor in their journey during these challenging times. With this, the GS Guidance is delighted to give you an overview of the Center’s new initiative, CONNECT, which will be implemented this coming school year. What does it mean to CONNECT with you? To CONNECT means: C – collaborating O – online N – to nurture N – new beginnings E – envisioning Scholasticans with C – championed resilience T – and tenacity

In this “new normal,” the counselors will CONNECT with the students and the other stakeholders through the implementation of different online programs and activities which are anchored on the following guidance services. 1. Individual Inventory Service As part of the IIS, Routine Interview is being conducted by the counselors to develop rapport, show acceptance, establish open communication, and get to know the needs of the students better. This will also serve as a springboard to determine whether the students are transitioning well especially to the online/remote learning. This may be done for grades 4-6, either individually or as a group, depending on the preference of the students, via zoom breakout rooms. In case of a technical glitch, doxy.me will be utilized. Schedule of routine interviews will take place during their self-study/offline learning tasks, from Monday to Friday. 1. Counseling/Follow-up/Referral Service To assist students in the intermediate levels who are experiencing difficulties/concerns in the different aspects of their lives especially those brought about by the pandemic, assistance will be provided to them by conducting online consultation or telebehavioral health services. This is through the use of a digital platform, doxy.me in particular, that provides secure, encrypted, audio-video conferencing to communicate with a client in real- time, and within the bounds of informed consent and data privacy. Similarly, counseling may be extended to students in other forms (i.e. text, email, online chat, etc.) provided that both parties agree on it. Students who will avail of counseling services may be voluntary or referred by the parents, teachers, and the other members of the community. Referral may be done through phone call, email or online chat. Consequently, follow-up will be conducted by the counselor using the same platform to ensure that the action plan is properly carried out and to provide sustained assistance/ reinforcement. However, outside referrals may also be made when the concerns presented are beyond the scope, training, or expertise of the counselor. It is in this manner that the Guidance Office ensures that a pool of specialists offering online counseling/psychological services is in place. Further, despite the limitations of the current situation, it is assured that the counselor will continue to monitor the student’s progress and maintain contact with the referring person.

For the counseling needs of pre-kinder to grade 3 students, parents are highly encouraged to communicate with the counselor of their daughter/son using any available platforms so they can be assisted in coming up with possible interventions to effectively address the concern. Direct online connection/communication will also be established between the parents and the counselors which will be accessible following the office protocol to intensify the said service. 3. Information Service This year, the counselors intend to focus and prioritize the students’ most vital concerns, such as personal, social and academic. This will be done by providing students with developmental programs relevant to equipping themselves with life management values and skills through webinars, synchronous or asynchronous classroom guidance sessions, and infographics. The Guidance Office will likewise continue with the implementation of the Mental Health Program entitled, “Live…Love…Laugh: A Way to a Happy Life,” which is now on its 4th phase, to be given to grades 5 & 6 students, and parents through Enrichment Activities and Annual Parenting Seminar, respectively. 4. Consultation/Collaboration Service To continually assist the different stakeholders in their needs, the use of email and other available online platforms accessible to provide consultation and collaboration with them will be adopted. Phone conferences will likewise be conducted especially when the counselors are in the office. 5. Research and Evaluation Counselors will continue to conduct and follow up studies, do benchmarks, and other relevant and need-based researches that are significant to the program and services assessment, monitoring, and development. Students, on the other hand, shall maintain the practice of conducting evaluation of guidance-sponsored activities through the use of Google forms to ensure efficacy in the implementation of Information Service.

Spiritual Formation and Support Holy Mass, class retreats and recollection will still be done online for the students’ spiritual growth BIBLIO SCHOLA: uploaded videos by CLE teachers to present Sunday Gospel to our young Scholasticans These are optional and non-graded activities which aim to strengthen their faith formation by deepening their understanding of the Word of God. The Grade School Unit believes that the spiritual growth of the students could be achieved through holistic spiritual formation. This is done through the various religious programs such as Holy Masses by grade level, within the unit or institutional level, Morning Praise every Monday, daily Morning Prayer, recollections, retreats, confessions, Living Rosary, Peace Camp, Lectio Divina, 3 o’clock prayer and many others. These were made possible through the close collaboration of the Campus Minister and the Christian Living Education teachers. As SSC Manila SHIFT’s to the new normal, the GS Unit aims to continuously provide to our dear young Scholasticans the activities which aim to deepen their understanding of the Word of God and strengthen their appreciation of the Gospel values. The abovementioned spiritual formation and support programs will still be done in an online format.

In line with the new normal, when the people’s participation in the Church celebration is still limited and most of the families could not attend the Sunday celebration, the GSU will hold the Biblio Schola (Bible Study) every Sunday. It is an activity where the focus of the interaction of the student and their CLE teacher is the Sunday Gospel. The Campus Minister will upload videos on the Sunday Gospel. Based on it, the CLE teachers will have a synchronous discussion on the reflection questions and its relevance to their life. These spiritual formation and support programs are optional and non-graded activities. But its purpose stays the same to bring the children and their families closer to Jesus, as He Himself said, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:20) Please note that the information provided in this SHiFT Program Guide for AY 2020-2021 may be changed or updated as the need arises. Parents and students will be given notifications if any. ( 26 August 2020)

That in all things God may be Glorified!
