BIOGRAPHY A LIFE WELL-LIVED ON A REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF SEVENTY YEARS PASTOR EMMANUEL KWESI LITHUR “Blessed are they who die in the Lord from henceforth, yea said the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours and their works do follow them” (Rev.14: 13) Early Years and Foundation The Late Emmanuel Kwesi Lithur was born in Hohoe to John Sadji Lithur aka Komla Agbaa and Madam Agnes Kpodo; all of blessed memory; on Sunday, 10th August; 1952. He was the tenth of thirteen children and the first son of his mother. His mother died while he was still a young boy and was therefore mothered by his older sister. Education and Career Emmanuel Lithur began his Primary school education in Hohoe and was an excellent student. He also schooled in Accra while living with his elder brother, but upon the death of his mother, went back to live with his elder sister in Hohoe. As a young student, he served as an altar boy at St Augustine’s Catholic Church, Hohoe, where he was confirmed in 1964 and named Germaine Lithur. Due to how smart and intelligent he was, he was made the Senior Prefect when he was in middle school Form 3. He wrote the common entrance exam in Form 3 and passed with distinction skipping Form 4 entirely. He proceeded to Bishop Herman College (B.H.C.) in Kpando for both his Ordinary and Advanced level education as a Science student. While in BHC, he earned the respect of both his peers and teachers due to how well he comported himself on campus. In 6th Form, he was appointed the House Prefect for House 6. He was an excellent dancer, hence often competed in their dance competitions. He was also an excellent barber and cut the hair of his friends for free. Shortly before completing his A-levels, Emmanuel’s beloved sister Esther died dealing a huge blow to him as she was the one sponsoring his education. He graduated from BHC with distinction and qualified to study Biochemistry at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in 1974. He was the first graduate in the family and became a mentor and pacesetter for others to follow. PASTOR EMMANUEL KWESI LITHUR 5

A LIFE WELL-LIVED ON A REMARKABLE The bible is sacred, JOURNEY OF SEVENTY YEARS never put anything on top of it. Career and Professional Working Life Mr. Lithur’s professional life began as a teacher at St Paul’s Seminary School, Denu in 1981. The economy of Ghana at the time became quite dire and this prompted him to join the many Ghanaian immigrants to Nigeria in 1982. He taught students in Ife, Ibadan, and various other states in Nigeria. In 1990, he returned to Ghana and was posted to Kpando Secondary School (Kpasec) as a Chemistry teacher. By dint of hard work and dedication, he became the Head of the Science Department after only a short period. In 1998, Mr. Lithur as he came to be popularly called; published an Integrated Science Test of Practical Workbook, the first of its kind for secondary schools in Ghana after several years of writing. He specifically created the book for students who had no access to laboratories, which was very common in Senior Secondary Schools in Ghana. He singlehandedly drew each instrument manually using the computer in his office. After 10 years in Kpasec, he got transferred to Kadjebi –Asato Secondary School (Kasec) where he taught from the year 2000 to 2004. Thereafter, he got posted to Awudome Secondary School (Awusco) in Tsito and then to Bueman Secondary School (Busec), where he retired after a successful teaching career in August 2012. Mr. Lithur loved to read and thus owned a lot of books. His English was impeccable and his handwriting was like a script. He had a very stylish signature befitting of billionaires. So profound was his impact on students that a scholarship fund called the E.K. Lithur Scholarship Fund was founded in his honour. Mr. Lithur learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and determination from an early age. He was a man of compassion and made a positive impact in the lives of many students. 6 PASTOR EMMANUEL KWESI LITHUR

Family and Relationships A LIFE WELL-LIVED ON A REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF SEVENTY YEARS Mr. Lithur had four beautiful children with Madam Mercy Afetsi namely; Atsu, Atsufui, Makafui, and Delali. As a family man, he was an uncompromising disciplinarian, principled, and a loving father. He was a devoted father who put the needs of his family first. His passion for education was imparted to his children from early on and he did not tolerate failure. Mr. Lithur was a very welcoming and helpful man. He raised many children and welcomed many family members and friends to his home and provided for all their needs. Mr. Lithur was very hands-on. He made and maintained a rubber-cutting machine where he cut and packed different sizes of packaging rubber for sale to augment the family income. He was not only a science teacher but practiced it in every way. He applied his knowledge of physics by fixing and wiring his own home, repairing appliances, and fixing sockets. He applied his knowledge of chemistry in all spheres of life, giving advice on the use and the dangers of chemicals such as parozone (bleach) and “acasia” in the home. He read the chemical composition of every medication before swallowing it. Mr. Lithur loved to sing. He will be often heard playing his harmonica and moving along. He taught himself how to sing most hymns by reading the musical notation. Mr. Lithur was a man of superb culinary skills; a skill only the best chefs could match. He was a true handyman, organized and neat. He always dressed impeccably and wore a smile. He could be identified by his loud and hearty laughter any day. From exploring new horizons to embracing creative outlets, he approached life with a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm. His interests brought joy, fulfillment, and opportunities for personal growth, and inspiring others to pursue their own passions. Spiritual Life and Ministry Work “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; And he that winneth souls is wise”, Proverbs 11; 30 (KJV) While working in Nigeria, he was invited to Deeper Life church by Mrs. Agbley where he accepted Christ and this birthed his love and zeal for the things of God. After a few years in Deeper Life, he came across the ministry of Rev. William Marion Branham in 1987, and PASTOR EMMANUEL KWESI LITHUR 7

A LIFE WELL-LIVED ON A REMARKABLE TRIBUTE BY We remember vividly, his days in Kpando Secondary School JOURNEY OF SEVENTY YEARS when he returned from Nigeria. He did not hesitate to take in SIBLINGS some of our children – Selase, Bless, and Mawuli (of blessed memory). He welcomed them into his home, paid their fees, “There is a time for everything; a time to be and took care of them through born and a time to die” - Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 It is with a heavy heart that we pay this tribute to our beloved brother, Fo Emma, as we all affectionately called him. Although the day referred to in Ecclesiastes has come upon us too quickly, we are not like those that mourn in hopelessness. Thank God for foreknowledge and preparation. Being one of the pillars on which the family stood for many years, his love and concern for others, even at his own detriment, were unmatchable and will forever leave a gaping hole that may never be filled. The sacrifices, hospitality, and love towards our children, the time he committed to the resolution of family disputes, and the unannounced visits to our homes to maintain the bond that existed amongst us, are but a few of the many things that characterized the life of this great man. He was the “glue” that held the family together. His calmness, caring and protective character was admirable and worthy of emulation. Our brother lived a purposeful and fulfilled life, and for that, we can only appreciate God for what He has done. He was the last living brother out of the seven we had and his demise now leaves us with no brother. We are still very thankful to God for granting us the experience of the 70 years he lived. His life story will continue to resonate with all those that passed through his hands and the many lives he touched spiritually. We grew up as a united family with our parents until their demise at a very tender age. We all parted ways to pursue our various goals and careers but never for a second lost contact and the connection expected of siblings. The love and bond that existed among us is a true testament to our blood connection. We cared so much about each other that we barely had any disagreements and confrontations, except in a few cases where we disagreed on doctrine. Even in those instances, it was always a worthwhile opportunity to discuss the word of God. We remember vividly, his days in Kpando Secondary School when he returned from Nigeria. He did not hesitate to take in some of our children – Selase, Bless, and Mawuli (of blessed memory). He welcomed them into his home, paid their fees, and took care of them through their Junior and Senior Secondary School education. He brought them up in the Christian way and instilled in them the strict discipline of Christian values. He had a way around people which influenced them positively. He was referred to as strict and a disciplinarian, but it was just his way of molding the lives that went through his hands and they’ll all bear witness today of the positive influence he had on them. He was an example of a life worthy of emulation. Today, as he takes a glorious bow from this dark world, we are very confident in one thing; that he will surely rise again on the day of the resurrection, when our Lord and Master Jesus Christ appears in the clouds of Glory, with the voice of the Archangel and with the trump of God. What a glorious sight it’ll be; to see him again in a new and perfect body; a body without fault, wrinkle, or blemish. Glory be to God! It is very painful to see him go but His Maker knows best. We will forever hold him dear to our hearts and will miss him sorely. He may be gone but his legacy lives on. Fo Emma, may your gentle soul rest in the peace that the Lord Himself brings. We shall surely meet again. Hede Nyuie. 12 PASTOR EMMANUEL KWESI LITHUR

He allocated the cooking responsibilities in the house amongst the girls, and I remember he will ask us to prepare a list when it was one’s turn to cook and will sometimes escort us to the market. I believe he did this to equip us to become the responsible adults that we are today. Wɔfa always called for early morning devotion before the day’s activities began. We sang hymns and a chapter of scripture was read with an exhortation. We did that from January to December every year without fail. There are two hymns that I will always remember him for – “when the roll is called up yonder” and “my sheep know my voice”. Those were my favorite hymns. As a young girl, I admired him and would pray that God gives me a husband like him. He was my superhero. He did so much for his children, close relatives, and his church. A good man has gone home. I baptized him in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ immediately. The new birth took effect, his zeal and love for the message of William Branham was unique to our small church. He was such an encouragement to me and all generally. His generosity was unequaled, holiness was a way of life with him and he was always straight forward, his zeal made him win many souls to the Kingdom of God. I’m happy I met such a devoted man in life. He never missed a service no matter how tired he was. He kept himself pure even after his wife left for Ghana. He left Nigeria on September 1, 1990. In Ghana, he started making an impact by establishing churches wherever his teaching career carried him to. I have visited some of these churches before, I wasn’t much surprised at what I found. He was a pedigree believer who truly met the Lord Jesus. I visited him just after Christmas last year in the hospital and we prayed. I didn’t know it will be our last meeting on this side of eternity. I’m happy he served God’s purpose and a glorious resurrection awaits him. Gallant Soldier, sleep well and we shall meet at Jesus’ feet to part no more. Adieu Eagle. 20 PASTOR EMMANUEL KWESI LITHUR

To the church who were there for him and supported us through the mounting medical bills, may the Lord show up for you in your moments of need. To all those who sent their widow’s mite, I want you to know that Daddy was truly grateful and prayed for you every day. To all the medical doctors and nurses especially his personal care nurses, May the Lord bless you richly. We express appreciation to our families and all those who were a part of our father’s life, those who helped him and made his life better. A helping hand costs nothing, but it can make a priceless impact on the world. Helping others is a gift that keeps on giving.
