MESSAGE FROM SBG PRESIDENT MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT NORMAN LIM It is my pleasure to address our Patron, Partners, Members and Associates in my 8th year as the President of Singapore PRESIDENT Business Group. As we prepare to introduce 2020, our Singapore Business Group Business Group can't help but reflect on the past year. We have seen great progresses in all façades of our operations. The New Year will also bring new goals for us to help continue our growth and expand our service to the local business community. We will head into 2020 in a much stronger position thanks to the successes of the past year. Our business group has finished off 2019 with a record turnout for all our events seeing record more than 3,500 attendees in the 47 events and co-hosts events we organized last year. We’ve seen substantial growth in all our events and expanded our reach in 2019 to include more of our member businesses located outside of Ho Chi Minh City. We also understand the benefit to our members of engaging in events with other local Chambers and business groups. SBG has continued to engage in the economic landscape in 2019. We had organized our signature event in November 2019 (Cross Chat: US China Trade War Episode II) and had also invited an Industrial Park owner and operator in Laos to give us an economic investment overview of Laos in June 2019. Moving into 2020 has been a very demanding year for all our members’ businesses. With growing concerns of the spread of COVID-19 locally and globally, the economic climate has been very challenging and comes with a lot of uncertainty. All the more we have to stand together and brace through this period of difficulty together. I urged you to reach out to our fellow members and associates to compare notes on the pitfalls and success story of finding alternate business opportunities. MR. NORMAN LIM SBG EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS President SBG EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS Norman Lim has been in Vietnam since 2007. He has previously head two Fortune 500 MNCs, spearheading their businesses in Vietnam from scratch. With his vast Green field experience, he is now working for Metkraft Ltd (a Fisher Barton company) as their President with responsibility over their manufacturing operations and to expand their commercial footprint in Asia Pacific. He has joined SBG Exco as an Execu- tive Member since 2008 and took rein of the chair in 2012. He has worked relentlessly with his team of Exco to bring value and more business focus activities to our members. He is also very active in CSR activities. As a PADI certified Master Instructor, he has been an active marine life conservationist in his previous tour of work in Brunei. And now he has taken over the baton to continue raising Education Funds (an SBG initiative) to help poor but deserving students in and around Ho Chi Minh City to continue their studies. MR. DANIEL EK LIM Daniel is an architect trained in the USA and worked in RSP Vice President Architects Planners & Engineers for more than 25 years. He was seconded to head RSP Vietnam office in Nov 2006 and had been working full-time in Vietnam for the past 13 years. He had been a member of SBG for 11 years and served in the executive committee since the AGM in 2014. He is part of the Members Relation Team and was involved in preparation and planning of some of the major events of SBG in the past few years. He enjoys meeting up with new acquaintances, and seeing the Singaporeans build a close working and community spirit with the Vietnamese and expatriates of other countries in Vietnam. SBG EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS MR. SECK YEE CHUNG Seck Yee Chung leads Baker McKenzie's M&A, TMT and Vice President Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, practices in Vietnam. He is ranked as a leading and recommended lawyer in the Corpo- rate, M&A and TMT practices in Vietnam by various league tables (Chamber Asia, IFLR1000, Asia Pacific Legal 500, etc.). He has dealt with a wide range of investment projects and major M&A deals. He advises and assists on investment, corporate, commercial and compliance/competition matters. MR. DIXON OH Dixon; Oh Gek Soon is a Singaporean businessman based in Vice President Vietnam for almost 19 years since year 2000. He is currently the CEO of Eagle Trading & Logistics Co., Ltd. He is also the Board Member of Aquarius Vietnam JSC and Aquus JSC. Prior to his current post, Dixon held senior management responsibilities in a number of Singapore-based regional companies. Dixon was first posted to Vietnam as General Director of the Vietnam operations of AP Oil International Ltd, a Singapore mainboard-listed company. SBG EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS Jeffery Lee is always searching for local talent in Vietnam since November 2010 due to his involvement in the Executive Search and HR Consulting Services of A8 Resource Co., Ltd. with a focus on developing a talent pool for foreign-invested and domestic enterprises. In addition, Jeffery and his staffs are continuously working to support clients as a HR Business Partner in manufacturing, IT, financial and business services industries. As of now, he enjoys facilitating and assessing groups of young people to build their character and prepare for entering the work place through a Moving-to-Greatness Program. MR. JEFFERY LEE Honorary Secretary With more than 14 years of experience in the banking industry, Jason is a passionate believer that sales is the ultimate of great service. In 2011, he won the national Excellent Service Award (EXSA) Championship, a coveted award for the banking industry in Singapore. Jason now heads up Channels and Digitalization for UOB Vietnam since 2016. He supported in the incorporation of UOB Vietnam subsidiary in 2018 and opened the first branch in Hanoi a year later, the beginning of a new chapter outside Ho Chi Minh City. MR. JASON YEO With a relatively young population and rapid economic Honorary Treasurer developments in Vietnam, Jason’s focus is to develop a comprehensive network, service and digital strategy to better serve the community and facilitate Foreign Direct Investments into the country. Jason is known to be a people’s person and passionate in championing corporate social responsibility initiatives, specifically in helping less fortunate children to develop their talents. He is concurrently the Consul (Commercial) of the Consul- ate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City. ESG is the government agency championing enterprise development by helping them build capabilities, innovate and internationalise. ESG also support the growth of Singapore as a hub for global trading and start-ups. Leon joined ESG since 2013 to develop assistance programmes for SMEs. He started the Plug & Play Network (PPN) in 2017 to provide easy market-access for enterprises looking to expand into SEA, China and India. Leon started his career with Unilever Singapore as a Trade Marketer. Prior to joining ESG, Leon was with Sime Darby doing sales & market- ing in APAC region. MR. LEON CAI Honorary Advisor Ken has been living in Vietnam for over 18 years. He is the Technical Director for United Paints Company which supplies equipment, 3M automotive products and OEM paint to automotive assembly factories. MR. ABRAHAM Y. ELIAS SBG EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS Committee Member Elias is APL’s Head of Commercial for the Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar Cluster. With 170 years of heritage, APL – part of French-based CMA CGM Group - is a global ocean carrier with more than 120 weekly services that call ports in over 70 countries worldwide. Since joining APL as a Management Trainee in 2000, Elias has held positions covering liner, logistics and terminals in several countries. Elias was APL’s Regional Director for SE Asia/Oce- ania (2016-2017) based in Singapore and served as APL’s Managing Director in Vietnam (2011-2015) and Sri Lanka (2007-2011). Elias was a Board Member of Vietnam Interna- tional Container Terminal (VICT) from 2011 till 2016. While in Sri Lanka, he served as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Association of Vessel Operators (SLAVO). Elias had also worked in APL offices in India and the US. Elias is a Singapore citizen. He holds a Post Graduate Degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Elias resides in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. My name is Kelvin Ang and I have been based in Vietnam since 2008. I have been working overseas in Asian countries since 2002 for an oil and gas company. In 2008 I had to move to Vietnam and started my first business venture in Freight Forwarding (KML Transport Logistic Co.,Ltd), and four years later my second venture in Events Industry (ILW models & Events Agency). Ajay was the Chairman of the Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam (INCHAM) from 2000 to 2006.
